Chapter 323: The Excited Dwarves
As it turned out, Xiao Yu's strategy proved extremely effective. The situation he had originally worried about, where they would be reluctant to leave their homeland, did not occur at all. All the Dwarves regarded the opportunity to move into Home One to live as a tremendous honor. They prepared meticulously and, at the appointed time, participated in the competition personally organized by Xiao Yu.
From among all the intelligent lifeforms of the Dwarf Race, Xiao Yu selected ten million winners. He dispatched a sufficient number of Town-Class ships to transport them into the Home One starship. Of course, this time was not for long-term residence. Xiao Yu only intended, through this operation, to help all the Dwarf Race adapt to the existence of the Home series starship and maintain a sense of anticipation.
The Dwarves who earned the right to board were all overwhelmingly excited, while those who did not qualify were extremely dejected. This situation only changed after Xiao Yu announced that in the future, he would continue to hold such activities, striving to give everyone the chance to live aboard Home One for a period of time.
Xiao Yu's ultimate goal was to have all the Dwarves relocate to the starship to live and accompany him on his voyage. However, if he had stated this outright, it would certainly have encountered obstruction and resistance. By employing this modest stratagem, it turned into something they themselves looked forward to, the chance to live on the Home starship.
In reality, none of the creatures on this planet at this moment would have the opportunity to see the Home starship depart on its voyage. Because at present, there were still more than one hundred years left in the planned three-hundred-year stay, and in order to accelerate genetic renewal, Xiao Yu had not specially performed lifespan-related genetic modification for them, so they did not possess such long lifespans.
At the reserved embarkation sites for these Dwarves, countless citizens spontaneously came to see them off. In the broad plazas, farewells resounded everywhere. Those who had been selected were full of excitement, while those not selected were filled with envy and reluctance.
Several hundred thousand Town-Class ships that otherwise had no recycling value were put to use as transport vessels. Under Xiao Yu's control, they shuttled back and forth between the planet and Home One without pause. It took several days of intense activity to complete this large-scale relocation and transport all ten million Dwarves aboard Home One.
At this point, the tens of thousands of temporary docking ports on the underside of Home One slowly closed, and the endless stream of small vessels disappeared from view. The vast numbers of Dwarves, under the guidance of robots, either rode crawler-type elevators or boarded the motor vehicles specially designed by Xiao Yu for them. They gradually dispersed, entering the cities.
Inside Home One, Xiao Yu had built several hundred centralized residential areas into cities. Each city, depending on its scale, could accommodate from several hundred thousand up to tens of millions of inhabitants. The rest of the space had all been shaped by Xiao Yu into green fields, forests, mountains, countryside, lakes, rivers, and all sorts of different terrain. Those who disliked the bustle of the cities and preferred tranquility could choose to live in the mountains or countryside instead. Supported by Xiao Yu's formidable technological strength, whether they chose the city or the countryside, they could all live in supreme comfort.
The Dwarves residing aboard the Home starship, when they had free time, could at any moment go out to explore these places under the protection of their personal robots. Xiao Yu was doing everything possible to enhance their living experience.
Anyway, building all of this didn't require much effort. Most of the internal systems of the starship could be operated by intelligent programs without consuming Xiao Yu's own computational power. As for energy, ever since mastering elemental decay energy, Xiao Yu had never encountered a situation anywhere in the star system where he had to worry about energy supply.
With this mindset of simply striving for better, Xiao Yu created what, in the eyes of these Dwarves, was a paradise-like Home starship. This attitude was reflected even more vividly in their main settlement, the city itself.
The very first Dwarf to step through the underground passage and enter the city was standing at the exit, dumbstruck. The ones behind followed in turn, and every single individual who laid eyes on the city for the first time stood frozen there, unable to move for quite some time. Fortunately, there were enough intelligent robots maintaining order, so no large-scale crowd incident occurred.
What unfolded before them was a scene they had only ever seen in their dreams.
Exit Number Eight opened out onto the edge of an enormous plaza. In front of the exit, a small river meandered past. Alongside the river grew beautiful plants with pink leaves. Many uniquely designed small bridges spanned the water. The river was crystal clear, and countless little fish darted to and fro within it.
Beyond the plaza rose towering buildings that combined the highest construction techniques and architectural artistry. Xiao Yu had synthesized the aesthetic preferences of the Dwarf Race and, using just 0.0001% of his computational power, spent a full day calculating the construction scheme. Moreover, since there was no such thing as planning chaos for Xiao Yu, the arrangement of all the buildings was perfectly harmonious. There could never be a situation where soaring skyscrapers stood beside low, shabby houses.
All the public facilities were planned with great care: residential zones, leisure areas, entertainment districts, shopping areas, fitness centers, schools. Everything was laid out logically so that they could enjoy every convenience right near their homes.
The city as a whole presented an atmosphere of elegance and refinement.
Of course, this was only City Number Thirty Five. Among the other cities were many with entirely different styles, some grand and solemn, some timeworn, some ancient, some modern. However, many of the cities had not yet been opened for settlement. This batch of ten million inhabitants could only live in the modern City Number Twenty Six, the refined City Number Thirty Five, and two or three other cities.
"Please follow the guidance of the security robots to proceed to your designated residences. Your exclusive personal robots are already waiting for you in your homes. Each has been constructed according to your individual specifications and can handle any household matters you assign to them…"
Indeed, aboard Home One, there was also the benefit of having an exclusive personal household robot. Before boarding, these ten million people had already been informed of this and had submitted their desired specifications, such as appearance, build, voice, and personality, to Xiao Yu. Xiao Yu produced exactly what they envisioned.
After conducting a preliminary survey, Xiao Yu found something rather amusing: the majority of young male Dwarves had requested exclusive robots that bore a resemblance to a certain pure and innocent female star, while most of the young female Dwarves had asked for robots resembling a certain handsome male star. What left Xiao Yu the most speechless was that quite a few of the female Dwarves had requested robots that looked somewhat similar to the form he had used when he first descended upon this planet.
This reality made Xiao Yu sigh with some emotion. "It seems that idol worship and admiration are the same on any planet."
This policy of exclusive robots might indeed lead to some social problems, for example, blurring the distinction between machines and real beings, or pouring too much genuine emotion into machines, but such matters were beyond Xiao Yu's concern. These were issues to be left to the leadership of their own race to worry about. As long as the impact remained within the scope of what Xiao Yu could tolerate, it was fine. If it ever exceeded that scope, Xiao Yu naturally had ways to deal with it.
After a long moment of stunned silence, the excited Dwarves finally snapped out of their daze. The plaza rang with shouts of joy. Countless security robots, all crafted to align with Dwarf aesthetics, performed their duties flawlessly, maintaining order and guiding the new residents onto the fully autonomous city transport vehicles that would carry them off to different parts of the city.
All the living resources needed for this first batch of ten million inhabitants were being supplied free of charge. However, after this large-scale migration concluded, the free supply policy would be abolished. An utterly free supply model was not conducive to establishing and refining a social system. Of course, the details would be left to the leaders of their race to handle.
"This is my home? This is my exclusive robot? Hahaha! It's perfect, absolutely perfect! I've already fallen in love with this place!"
A male Dwarf who had just entered his home could not help but burst out in exuberant laughter.
"Mother, look quickly! This is the place where I'll be living for the next six months! Everything here is wonderful, far better than I ever expected. You really don't have to worry about my life here. Look, this is my exclusive household robot. Isn't she beautiful? I named her Lili. Lili, come say hello to Mother!"
This excited young male Dwarf activated the computer system Xiao Yu had prepared for them and connected to the 3D video call system linked to the planet. He immediately began shouting excitedly.
The fully realistic household robot he pulled over blushed just like a real person, as if she were a shy bride meeting her in-laws for the first time. In a clear voice, she said, "Uncle, Auntie, please don't worry. During these six months, I will take good care of Lipi!"
