Chapter 125 - 125: The Chosen One
Chapter 125: Chapter 125: The Chosen One
Only after a few “clack clack” sounds from within, did the door burst open with a crisp “snap.”
“Be careful behind the door!”
Mao Qiqi had warned everyone while Su Jin was picking the lock. She could feel a zombie inside being drawn to the sound of the door opening.
As expected, the moment the door opened, a rather plump female zombie rushed out. Su Jin almost got dazzled by the gold necklace around her neck, but Liao Yifan was quick to kick the obese zombie back into the room!
“Haha, I think I just kicked her back in again,” Liao Yifan said, somewhat embarrassed. From her position, she could only kick the zombie back.
“No worries, Fanfan, I’ll take care of her,” Guo Yang said as he pulled out a watermelon knife from his storage bag and decapitated the crawling woman zombie’s head.
“There are five more inside,” Mao Qiqi said with a grin, holding up five fingers to remind everyone.
Su Jin used her vine-based ability to throw the zombie corpse blocking the door outside, and then everyone followed her into the house.
“There’s one over there, two upstairs, and two more, below?” Mao Qiqi said.
Zombies underground?
It turned out that each villa here had a basement, and the stairs to the basement were connected to those leading upstairs.
Lu Hao nodded and headed in the direction Mao Qiqi had indicated. It appeared that the villa’s courtyard was on the inside, while the zombie was outside, unable to enter through the sliding doors between the courtyard and the main hall.
“It’s a mutated zombie.”
Su Jin felt speechless, as it happened to be a Wood Element mutated zombie, whose only desperate attempt at using a Special Ability involved sprouting a tiny bud on its head…
“Pfft, so cute,”
Liao Yifan couldn’t help but laugh. It seemed the zombie had been a young boy in life, still clad in his high school uniform. The little sprout on his head made her think it was adorably cute.
Wood Element really had it rough, even among the zombie hierarchy. No wonder those who had awakened Wood Element abilities in the previous life were so disappointing.
To preserve the sliding door as much as possible, Su Jin cracked it open just enough to pierce the head of the Wood Element zombie outside with her vine-based ability, even pulling out a green Crystal Core in the process.
Huang Yunxiang came forward, washed the Crystal Core clean with her Water Element Ability at the nearby basin.
A sense of closeness washed over her, and Su Jin placed the Crystal Core into her storage bag then followed the group upstairs.
The two zombies on the second floor were apparent casualties of zombification within the bedroom, both elderly. Xue Wanyi and Nie Qing took care of them with Wind Blades.
The basement had surprisingly been converted into a card room. Lu Hao and Lu Guanhai lit up the entire basement with Special Ability Fire, and next to the card room was another room where Qiqi said the two zombies were located.
The door opened easily, and the two zombies waiting at the doorway charged out, only to be pushed back in by two incoming Fireballs!
“Roar roar,”
The zombie hit by Lu Guanhai hadn’t completely died. It took another slash from him before it stopped moving for good.
Su Jin moved the bodies of the zombies outside with her vines, while Lu Hao unleashed his Special Ability Fire, turning them into ashes.
“Finally, we can take a good look around here!”
Lin Xiuyuan ran in excitedly, dashing everywhere from front to back, closely followed by Local Tyrant Gold, which was hopping up and down on the villa’s staircase railing.
“Xiao Jin, there are five floors in total here, including the basement,” Lin Cheng said as he was the first to race upstairs.
He hadn’t expected that the house, which didn’t seem very large or tall from the outside, actually had five levels inside, making excellent use of space.
Lu Hao and Su Jin were also touring the house with the rest of the group.
The interior of the house was fully furnished, and even though the marble floors hadn’t been polished in so long, they still shone reflectively.
The main hall was spacious, decorated in a European style, with the most eye-catching feature being the luxurious chandelier that made the whole space seem grand.
Moving further inside, they came to the kitchen, which connected to an outdoor courtyard. The courtyard was quite large and also featured a small garden, though the flowers and plants inside had all withered away.
Beside the courtyard was another small door; opening it led to another yard, which, combined with the adjacent two houses, made up the entire villa.
“My goodness, it’s huge inside,” Huang Yunxiang voiced everyone’s collective awe.
“This house has good feng shui,” Nie Qing proclaimed, hands clasped behind his back in the tone of a charlatan.
“What are you on about with feng shui at a time like this,” Lu Guanhai said disdainfully.
“That’s what you don’t understand; staying in a place with good feng shui is not only beneficial for the body and mind but also for all aspects,” Nie Qing said, possessing limited knowledge of feng shui himself, but he could tell this unique residence indeed was an excellent place to live.
When Su Jin and the others opened the balcony door of the other house, they were momentarily stunned. What was with all the wine racks filling the room?
It turned out that the adjacent stories had been transformed into a collection room, with the first and second floors dedicated to red wine. The shelves were not lacking in valuable bottles, and the third-floor rooms were filled with anime figures and dolls.
Lin Xiuyuan’s eyes dazzled with the array of figures that were definitely all imported goods. He wasn’t sure exactly how much they cost, but they must be incredibly expensive. He knew that a hand-sized figure sold on Tieba could fetch thousands of yuan.
However, these things were of little use in the Apocalypse, and Lin Xiuyuan planned to discuss with Su Jin later about whether he could help store these figures in the Space; even if they had no use later on, they could still be appreciated.
The fourth and fifth floors were an art studio and a library, the studio containing several valuable works by painting masters.
The world of the wealthy was beyond imagination. After everyone returned to the main house, they sighed, acknowledging that had the Apocalypse not occurred, living here would have been akin to a heavenly existence.
“Since this place is spacious enough, let’s stay here for now and see how things go,” Su Jin suggested.
“We can finally rest,” Lin Tianzhen, the aunt, declared as she sat down.
The days on the road felt like a century to her. Although they were able to rest and take walks in the Space frequently, it just didn’t feel like home. Only now did she start to feel a bit more grounded.
“I feel like our journey resembled Tang Monk’s pilgrimage to the Western Heaven, confronting eighty-one tribulations,” Lin Cheng had felt this way for a while since they had encountered some sort of situation almost every day, but fortunately, they were always without serious mishap.
“If we decide to settle here long term, I suggest we live separately,” Guo Yang proposed.
“Oh? Why’s that?” Lu Hao asked, looking at him.
“If the neighboring secondary villa isn’t inhabited, might it be confiscated by the base in the future?”
Guo Yang had thought of this issue earlier. Though the two houses were connected, if they sealed the middle, they could easily be split into two separate villas. As the base’s population gradually increased and housing became insufficient, it was inevitable that suggestions to requisition unoccupied houses would arise.
Su Jin nodded in agreement, finding Guo Yang’s point very reasonable. It wouldn’t be long before some people came to clean up and inspect the houses, and they needed to be prepared before then.
