Rebirth Counterattack: I Heard That the Imperial Marshal Has a Crush on Me

Chapter 209

Chu Muxi secretly tightened his fist but looked at the other person expressionlessly. His eyes revealed something unspoken.

The other party glanced at him lightly, the look almost too quick to catch. Yet, Chu Muxi detected a fleeting smile.

He snorted inwardly and turned away, too lazy to spare him another glance.

‘Just wait. I’ll settle this with you later,’ he thought.

Vincent’s voice interrupted his thoughts. “Next, please take a look at our highlight of the evening!”

“It’s about time! Why keep us waiting so long?” someone complained.

“If this doesn’t start soon, I’m leaving,” another added.

“Yeah, stop teasing us already!”

“Alright, alright. Let’s begin.” Vincent chuckled, speaking into the microphone. “Start.”

The crowd immediately quieted down; their anticipation palpable. Chu Muxi lowered his gaze as four individuals were shoved back into their cages, which were then pushed to the sides of the venue.

As everyone’s attention focused on the centre of the room, a massive cage, covered by a black cloth over ten meters high, was slowly lowered into view.

The audience collectively widened their eyes, staring at the enormous cage in disbelief.

“Vincent, what have you done?”

“Is it what I think it is?” someone asked, shocked.

“You really got that? Can you even handle it?”

Many didn’t believe it and repeatedly questioned Vincent.

Vincent, unhurried, smiled and replied, “You’ll find out soon enough. But before that, there’s something I need to explain.”

“It’s already this late, and you’re still stalling!”

“Are you backing out? Are you raising the price now?”

Their complaints turned the room into chaos, resembling a bustling market. Chu Muxi rubbed his temple, his headache growing.

“Relax. I’m not trying to trick anyone,” Vincent said with a smirk, his voice calm and measured. “What I’m presenting today is no ordinary item. Even my boss took a huge risk to acquire it. I promise, once you see it, you’ll understand why this is so special. However, I must clarify: we’ll be using a bidding model for this sale. The highest bid wins, with no upper limit. The auction is open.”

The moment he uttered the words no upper limit, the room fell silent.

Everyone there had dealt with Vincent long enough to know his reputation. If he claimed to have something extraordinary, it usually lived up to the hype.

Excitement buzzed beneath their calm exteriors. If Vincent was serious about there being no price limit, it meant this product was not only rare but also highly coveted.

The atmosphere turned tense as each attendee began strategizing. The previously chaotic chatter ceased, replaced by a subtle yet palpable competition. People avoided even looking at their neighbours, unwilling to reveal their intentions.

Vincent surveyed the room with a satisfied smile. His plan had worked perfectly.

Chu Muxi and Christie exchanged a glance, both fully aware of what Vincent’s so-called special item was.

Throughout the entire event, Christie had barely spoken, sitting quietly as if indifferent to everything around him. Equally silent were the two individuals seated across from them.

Chu Muxi’s gaze shifted to the man and the “woman” in the red dress sitting beside him. The latter, noticing Chu Muxi’s scrutiny, suddenly turned her face and threw him a playful wink.

Chu Muxi: “…”

Christie: ‘Heh, very good. Looks like someone’s having a great time.’
