Chapter 208
After listening to Christie’s words, Chu Muxi also felt increasingly curious about the two people and looked at them again.
Coincidentally, the cold man from the opposite side suddenly raised his head and looked back at him. Their eyes met in midair. The man’s gaze was deep, with a vortex-like intensity that seemed to draw people in.
Chu Muxi hurriedly turned his head but couldn’t stop a ridiculous thought from forming in his mind.
He wanted to glance again, but before he could, Vincent coughed twice and began speaking again.
“Well, everyone seems a little restless. Next, as you’ve probably noticed, we have the mermaid. This should be familiar to all of you, a product of our Cry Star,” Vincent said with a smile as he pressed a button.
The screen zoomed in closer, as if the camera were right up to the mermaid’s face. Even under such a high-definition lens, it was impossible to conceal the perfection of the mermaid’s features.
“It really is the most beautiful race in the empire, the darling of the star universe,” a man remarked in awe.
“What’s the point of beauty if it’s not even for sale here?” a girl said with jealousy.
Chu Muxi glanced at Christie beside him. The latter was staring at the image on the screen with an expressionless face.
However, Chu Muxi could still feel the anger and gloom radiating from Christie.
Christie was furious. Chu Muxi thought that if his own relatives or friends were being traded like goods in a place like this for others to exploit, he might have flipped the table and fought them all on the spot.
But now wasn’t the time. Christie, sensing Chu Muxi’s attention, gave him a calming look, signalling that he was fine.
“How much is this mermaid? I want it!” a fat middle-aged man declared; his eyes glued to the mermaid’s face. As the camera panned down to the mermaid’s tail, his expression grew even greedier. “The product is flawless. It should fetch an excellent price,” he added as though the mermaid already belonged to him.
Chu Muxi frowned slightly, sorrow rising in his heart. These people were utterly shameless and disgusting. Damn them!
Vincent laughed proudly. “Don’t rush, gentlemen. This is just the beginning. You don’t yet know the true value of these little creatures.”
“Damn it, Vincent! Stop stalling and tell us what we need to know!” someone shouted angrily.
“Exactly! I’ve travelled more than a dozen jumps to get here. If you keep wasting our time, I’ll just grab the merchandise myself!” another person bellowed.
The crowd erupted into shouts, urging Vincent to get on with it.
“This isn’t the main event I invited you here for. This is just an appetizer. Patience, gentlemen,” Vincent said with a smug grin, his words commanding silence.
Though still dissatisfied, the attendees quieted down.
Christie seemed about to speak, and Chu Muxi instinctively wanted to stop him, but then he heard a man’s voice from nearby—a man who had been silent until now.
As soon as that voice reached his ears, Chu Muxi stiffened, his face betraying nothing as he fought the urge to look.
Even though the voice was slightly distorted and carried a dull tone, Chu Muxi recognized the way the man spoke.
This guy had come here without saying a word to him!
