Reawakening: Primordial Dragon with Limitless Mana

Chapter 88: Another mate

"I am ready to leave with you," Hades said at last, his voice steady.

For the first time, the stoic woman's face shifted—her lips curved into a faint smile.

"But," he added.

Her smile faltered, and her eyes flickered with unease, though she gave a respectful nod.

"I still have unfinished business here. I'll remain in the human realm a little longer. You can meet me in Bavech… ten days from now."

Her brows knit together. "But, Young Lord, it's dangerous. The more dragons learn of who you are, the more will come hunting for you."

Hades frowned, his tone firm. "For eighteen years I've kept myself alive without anyone's help. Ten more days won't be the end of me—don't you think?"

The woman fell silent, shame softening her expression. At last, she bowed her head. "Forgive my rudeness, my Lord. I will await you in Bavech."

Hades gave a low hum of acknowledgment and turned to leave. But at the flap of the tent, he paused, glancing back over his shoulder.

"What is your name?"

The woman's eyes widened before she quickly answered, "It's Maylie, my Lord."

He said nothing more and stepped out into the night.

The moment he was gone, Maylie released the long breath she had been holding. Her heart was still pounding.

The God she had worshipped since birth… the very one she had been trained to serve… the man to whom her life was bound—was standing before her at last.

And she had nearly angered him.

'Stupid, Maylie… what if he had cast you aside?'

Shaking her head, she pushed the thought away, straightened her back, and slipped out of the tent. She had work to do—her duty was to follow her Lord from the shadows, no matter what.

….

[Next morning]

"Mmm…" Hades groaned in his sleep as his eyes slowly fluttered open.

Last night, after dinner, he passed out almost instantly—his body far more exhausted than he'd realized.

He still wasn't used to holding magic for long. Though he could channel as much as he wanted, his human core had its limits. If he pushed too far, it could break him.

The core was the heart of magic inside every being, the source that let it flow through their body. Its size and strength varied from species to species.

Some creatures, like elves and dragons, were born with more than one core. This gave them a natural advantage, letting them weave different types of magic with ease, and even master several schools of it at once.

Humans, however, were different. Their bodies had long adapted to survive with only one core, and that limitation allowed them to wield only a single type of skill. Compared to elves, dragons, or powerful beasts, they were far less versatile.

"You're awake."

The sweet, familiar voice drew his attention. Hades turned his head to the left and found Luna placing a teapot gently on the bedside table.

She moved closer and sat beside him, her fingers slipping into his.

"How do you feel?" she asked softly.

"I'm sore… but better," he answered, his voice still heavy with sleep.

A mischievous curve touched her lips. "You know how good my massages feels."

Hades let out a low chuckle, lifting her hand to his lips. He kissed her fingers tenderly and murmured, "You look beautiful. The braids suit you."

Unlike him, she had woken much earlier. She looked fresh, composed, and radiant. Her silver hair had been neatly braided, the long strands falling gracefully over her shoulder. Her soft features glowed against her moon-pale skin, and the dark blue dress she wore made her seem even more luminous.

"I'm glad you think so," Luna said with a hint of pride as she brushed her braid with her fingertips. "The Queen helped me with it."

Hearing Luna mention the Queen, yesterday's events came rushing back into Hades's mind like a flood.

His expression froze, the warmth draining from his face as his eyes turned grim.

Luna instantly noticed the shift. "What happened?" she asked, her voice tight with worry.

Hades clasped her hands, hesitating, his lips parting but no words coming out.

It had been only a few days since they had confessed their feelings—only a few days since they had spent their first night together.

And now this…

"Hades, you're scaring me," Luna pressed, her tone trembling. "What is it? Just tell me."

Hades exhaled slowly, his chest heavy, before finally forcing out the words. "To save Peri… I had to do something that could be seen as a betrayal to you."

"You made her your mate."

Her voice was soft, but the certainty in it cut straight through him.

Hades's eyes widened. "Did she tell you?"

Luna shook her head. "No. I only sensed her guilt—like she was carrying a burden she couldn't speak of. But she never said a word about yesterday."

Her fingers drifted to her nape, brushing the faint tingle of the mark. "I felt it… the moment it happened. The presence of Peri. It was strange—I've never met her, yet I felt as if we were already close, as if a bond had been woven between us. The instant I saw her, I knew… she was your mate."

[One of the many truths of the mating mark—you can't hide from your mates. The bond always reveals itself.]

Hades's shoulders sagged, his voice heavy with guilt. "Luna… I—I had no choice. Samarella was determined to end it—either my life, or her own."

She could see how deeply it tormented him. The weight of guilt pressed on him like chains, dragging his spirit down.

And though her own heart ached, though it hurt to know she would no longer be the only one, Luna had already prepared herself for this. Deep inside, she had always known the day would come.

Her chest tightened, but she reached out anyway, cupping his cheeks and lifting his face toward hers.

"Hey," she called out, "...will this change things between us?"

Hades hurriedly shook his head.

Luna smilingly said, "When you make someone your mate you need to take their responsibility. To make them feel secure and loved. And if Peri gets to know that the person she is bound to is regretting his decision to make her his partner…how would she feel?"

Hades asked, "But what about you, Luna?"

Luna giggled before tapping her head against his as she said,, "I am fine, Hades. Yes, it was painful yesterday, but now I am fine, I swear. So now, please go and meet Peri. I am sure you can sense her anxiety."

Hades hummed before he parted from her.

He cupped her cheek before planting his lips on hers.

They shared a brief kiss before Hades said, "I love you, Luna. And that would never change."

"Mm, I know."

Seeing Hades leave, she wiped the tear that finally slid down before deciding to go out and have some fresh air.
