Chapter 283: The Gentle Psychiatrist (53)
By no means did Tang Meng know that Yue Ran's treatment as she was dealing with Lu Yuan was perfectly normal, just as a regular psychiatrist would normally handle their patients.
At that time, in order to avoid getting into trouble, Yue Ran had even intentionally scaled down the number of face-to-face consultations that she had with Lu Yuan. So the fact that Lu Yuan was "interested" in her was absolutely not her fault at all.
Yue Ran: I am the most innocent person in this situation.
Tang Meng soon said some vague words in a hurry and left, something to which Yue Ran did not bother to pay attention.
The young woman merely shot an indifferent glance at the female protagonist's back, remained silent, and then took action to move toward the direction of where Lu Yuan was standing, waiting for her.
"Hello, busy doctor. Are you free right now?" Lu Yuan asked in a joking tone.
The young man reached his hand through the open car window and took out a bouquet of seemingly different-colored yet not roses from the seat. Yet they are not of different colors because the roses in the bouquet were all of the same hue; they just came in a variety of tones and intensities.
The roses looked to be an artificially cultivated variety due to their uniquely striking hues. The bouquet of roses has a light fragrance, and the myriad shades of one distinct color on its petals look incredibly gorgeous. The pure and pristine crushed ice blue roses of different shades are still stained with water droplets on their petals.
Yue Ran did not hate beautiful things; she rather liked them, so she quietly accepted the bouquet from the young man's hand and held it in her arms.
"Let us go," Yue Ran said. "I will guide you to the location of the restaurant."
"Oh, okay, then," Lu Yuan replied with a casual shrug, not minding the cold and indifferent treatment of the young woman to him at all. He still opened the car door of the passenger seat for Yue Ran, like a gentleman would, despite her conduct.
Yue Ran had already made a reservation at the restaurant ahead of time. Although the cost of the food here came with a somewhat hefty price tag, this restaurant had a good reputation among people who enjoy eating French dishes, including her.
"Is it your first time here?" Yue Ran asked the young man next to her.
"Yes, that is right," Lu Yuan answered. "I have not eaten much French food before because I am not used to eating such a small amount of food on many large plates." After a pause, he added, "Let me take a guess: is the restaurant's specialty here a plate of grilled snails?"
The young woman let out a somewhat helpless sigh and uttered, "Well, you do not have to worry." A smirk crawled up her lips. "How about I request for them to serve you two big bowls of rice?" There was a hint of sarcasm in her tone. "In this way, you can definitely feel full."
Yue Ran took off her coat to reveal the outfit she was wearing inside.
The young woman was wearing a long French dress underneath her long coat. The white and green colors on the dress look noble, retro, and elegant. With just a simple hairdo on her head and her usual daily makeup applied to her stunning face, coupled with the addition of her uniquely distinct aura, she could easily be put in the center of attention or under the spotlight wherever she goes. Her appearance was unquestionably superior to that of all the smartly dressed men and women currently present in the restaurant.
Yue Ran simply and effortlessly commanded attention without even intending to do so in the first place.
The young woman had a charmingly pretty face, and she was speaking in that dignified tone of hers that sounded humorous yet mocking at the same time. This sort of contrast made Lu Yuan unable to pull his eyes away from her.
"Are you serious?" Lu Yuan smiled, and his eyes turned into crescents. "Please, my dear. As long as you ask me to eat it, then I will be bold enough to do so."
Lu Yuan drew back the seat for Yue Ran like a gentleman, took off his coat, and then casually pulled back the chair across from her and took a seat while crossing his legs. He had done it in a way that made him look casual and easygoing, yet attractive at the same time.
With the coat gone, one could see that the young man was wearing a dark button-up shirt with a golden-yellow tie and a vest. He arranged his cell phone and cigar box on the table alongside each other. This kind of luxurious indulgence made him look somewhat elegant, giving him an air of refinement.
"Doctor Yue, what is the status of the investigation?" Lu Yuan inquired in a nonchalant manner. "How is the investigation going?"
"You should have already known that the investigation is none of my business," Yue Ran answered casually. "I am only working as a consultant."
"Speaking of which, it was, as a matter of fact, quite a coincidence that back then, my brothers had found a clue leading to this deadbeat, and they had used any means to extract information from him," Lu Yuan began, turning his smiling eyes at Yue Ran. "And it turned out that this guy appeared to be one of the victims, so I seized the chance to let them look into it more, and... well, that was it."
"Then let me thank you on behalf of Tang Meng," Yue Ran answered calmly.
"You are welcome, but there is really no need to thank me." Lu Yuan grinned before adding, "As long as you understand what I mean."
The young man was not polite in terms of receiving such "gratitude."
