Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Legendary Pokémon!
"Yes, it's Ash."
"Ash is from the same batch of rookie trainers as you. He arrived in Viridian City a day earlier than you. Initially, I thought that since he reached Viridian on the first day, he must have captured several Pokémon companions. But, honestly, he really disappointed me."
Professor Oak shook his head in disappointment as he spoke, indicating how his initial hopes for Ash had turned into sheer frustration.
"What makes me even angrier is that Ash lied to me, claiming he saw a legendary Pokémon. How could such a thing be possible? Think about it. After so many years, no one has ever seen one."
"A legendary Pokémon?" Red looked at Professor Oak with curiosity.
"Yes, legendary Pokémon. Look behind you; the wall carvings depict some of them, including Ho-Oh." Professor Oak pointed to the carvings of Ho-Oh, Articuno, Zapdos, and Entei on the wall behind Red.
"Oh? So these carvings depict legendary Pokémon? If that's the case, I think I saw them in Viridian Forest as well."
"What? What did you say?"
"Professor Oak, I saw one of the engravings, specifically the one with the Phoenix King."
"No... Impossible. Absolutely impossible. You know—"
Professor Oak's face was full of shock upon hearing Red's words. He thought for a moment, then quickly shook his head, dismissing the idea. But before he could say anything more, Red spoke again, making Oak's expression even more astonished.
"Oh, by the way, Professor Oak, I think I took a picture of it using the Pokédex when it was about to disappear."
"What!?"
A loud exclamation echoed from the device, causing Red to move the microphone away from his ear. Moments later, Professor Oak's excited face appeared on the screen, looking directly at Red.
"Red, are you sure what you just said is true? You're not lying to me? Are you certain you saw the legendary Pokémon, Ho-Oh? And did you actually take a photo of it?"
"Yes, it's true. I did take a photo; it's stored in my Pokédex. I—"
Before Red could finish, Professor Oak's voice cut in again, filled with urgency.
"Quick, Red! Send me that photo immediately! If it's real... I must study it carefully. You have to understand, this is a legendary Pokémon that hasn't been seen in centuries!"
Professor Oak's face was practically pressed against the screen in excitement, as if he might pop through it any second.
"Ahem... Professor Oak, you don't have to be so excited, I—"
"How can I not be excited? Do you even realize what this means? A legendary Pokémon! A being that has disappeared from the human world for hundreds of years!"
"Okay, Professor Oak, I know you're excited. But could you let me finish speaking? I don't mind sending you the photo for research, and I can even send it to the Alliance, but..."
A cunning gleam appeared in Red's eyes.
"But what? Red, just tell me! I'll give you anything within my power. If I can't, the Oak family has enough influence to make it happen through the Alliance. Just name your price!" Oak spoke anxiously, eager to see the legendary Pokémon's image.
"Alright, I do have a request, Professor Oak. I can provide the photos for research and even allow them to be sent to the Alliance. But giving them to the Alliance won't be free. I need..."
Red began stating his demands. What were they? Well, that would be revealed soon.
"No problem! If that's all you're asking for, consider it done. Just give me a few days. I'll contact the Alliance immediately."
Professor Oak didn't hesitate in agreeing. To him, Red's requests were simple, and he could fulfill them even without the Alliance's help.
"Then I'll leave it to you, Professor Oak. Now, I'll head over to Miss Joy to borrow a computer and transfer the pictures to you."
Just as Red was about to leave, Professor Oak suddenly interrupted him.
"No need, Red. Don't rush. Send it to me after I contact the Alliance. I've been waiting for an opportunity to study legendary Pokémon for so long, I can afford to wait a few more days."
"Alright."
After hearing this, Red didn't push further. Instead, he chatted with Professor Oak about family matters before ending the call.

Meanwhile, at the Pokémon Alliance Headquarters
"What? Xuecheng, are you sure about this?"
President Damalan, head of the Pokémon Alliance, had just received a call from Professor Oak. Initially, he assumed Oak was asking for a favor, but after hearing the details, his face was filled with shock.
"I'm sure. I haven't seen the photo yet, but I saw the look of sincerity in Red's eyes. Besides, you know about Red's background, right?" Oak said seriously.
"Red's background? If I recall correctly, he is the only son of Researcher Ziv and Viola, the famous Queen of Commerce."
"Yes, exactly."
"I see. So, what are his conditions?"
"They're quite simple. His conditions are..."
After listening to Professor Oak, Damalan let out a small chuckle. "Is that all? I was expecting something difficult. The Alliance can easily fulfill his requests."
"Then you should prepare everything right away," Oak urged. "I can't wait to start researching. After all, this is the first sighting of a legendary Pokémon in hundreds of years."
"Don't worry, Oak. You know me. I always handle things swiftly."
With the influence of Professor Oak, Red's request was happily accepted by Alliance President Damalan. Under Damalan's orders, Alliance staff immediately started preparing to meet Red's demands and facilitate the research on the legendary Ho-Oh.
As anticipation grew, one thing was certain: the discovery of a legendary Pokémon would change the world forever.
