Chapter 81 – Baby Lugia

The newborn Lugia blinked, scanning its surroundings.

It seemed to be searching for something.

When it saw Asahi and Gardevoir, it sniffed the air and immediately rushed into Asahi's arms.

Then, through psychic communication, it sent a deeply affectionate thought to Asahi and Gardevoir.

[…Wait. Did it just… imprint on us as its parents?]

Asahi asked Gardevoir through telepathy.

Gardevoir hesitated… and then nodded.

The young Lugia clearly felt the benefits of the energy cubes. It nudged against Asahi, looking up with an expression that practically said, "I want more!"

Seeing the little Lugia act like a child, Asahi sighed helplessly and handed it another special energy cube, along with some regular ones.

Lugia wasn't picky at all—it quickly devoured every single energy cube Asahi gave it.

After consuming an entire box of energy cubes, Lugia was finally full. However, it still clung to Asahi, wrapping its wings around him and refusing to let go.

Seeing this, Asahi thought for a moment before asking,

"Do you want to be my partner?"

He took out an Ultra Ball and shook it lightly while conveying his intentions to Lugia through his Viridian Force.

Given its current state, releasing it back into the wild could be dangerous.

But, more importantly…

[Alright, fine, I admit it—I just really want it!]

┓(′?`)┏ Asahi shrugged.

Lugia tilted its head, glancing at Gardevoir. After briefly considering the meaning of "partner," it didn't hesitate at all. With a light tap of its forehead on the Ultra Ball's button—

A red light shot out, enveloping Lugia and pulling it into the Poké Ball.

The moment the light blinked off, the Ultra Ball clicked shut with a soft thud—Lugia had been successfully captured.

That was... way too easy.

Asahi had expected Lugia to hesitate, even for a little bit, but it had agreed almost instantly.

Releasing Lugia from the Poké Ball, he watched as it looked around in curiosity, clearly fascinated by the experience of being inside.

Excited, Lugia started pestering Asahi to put it back in and take it out again.

With a helpless smile, Asahi indulged it, playing along with its little game.

[This… kinda feels like I'm a father entertaining his kid.]

Shaking his head, Asahi quickly dismissed the thought. No way! He didn't even have a girlfriend yet—how could he be a dad?!

Meanwhile, Professor Oak and Professor Sakuragi, who had been watching from the side, were utterly stunned.

Is this really how legendary Pokémon behave?

This was nothing like they had imagined!

Eventually, Lugia grew tired.

Breaking out of its shell had drained a lot of its energy, and digesting all those energy cubes had made it even more exhausted. After one last trip into and out of the Ultra Ball, it curled up against Asahi and fell into a deep sleep, a look of pure contentment on its face.

Holding Lugia in his arms, Asahi didn't notice that the Silver Wing in his pocket briefly glowed before its light faded, turning it back into an ordinary feather.

Instead, he was focused on something else.

Even now, Lugia's body still emitted that strangely fragrant aroma—it hadn't faded at all.

"…So, it really has been marinated through and through, huh?"

He had suspected this would happen, but now that it was confirmed, he couldn't help but feel a little awkward.

Especially since Lugia was now his partner.

He could already imagine the scene in a battle—

Opponent: "My Pokémon is a Shadow Lugia! What kind of Lugia do you have?"

Asahi: "Uh… this is my… Five-Spice Lugia?"

Opponent: "....."

Just thinking about it made Asahi cringe in embarrassment.

"I need to find a way to wash this smell off…"

This was the Pokémon world—there had to be an item that could remove Pokémon scents, right?

…Right?
