Pokémon: Volcarona Eggs Found at the Start

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Which is Better?

Chapter 2: Which is Better?

After finishing his meal, Jiang Yu returned to his room and called out to the system in his heart. Immediately, the system interface appeared in his mind.

The functions were clearly listed on the far left: [Identification], [Task], [Achievement], [Cultivation], [Store], [Backpack].

A flashing gift package icon caught his eye.

[Open the gift pack.]

System: "The host is not eligible to open the gift package at the moment. Please obtain your first Pokémon before opening the gift package."

So, he needed to get his first Pokémon before opening it. This felt a lot like the newbie gift packs from mobile games in his past life.

That $1 Starter Pack was always a must-buy for hardcore players.

"I, Jiang Yu, will definitely claim this gift package!"

He decided to check the system functions one by one. First, he looked at the [Achievements] tab, but it was completely empty.

"System, why is there nothing in achievements?"

System: "[Achievement tasks are not displayed. The host must discover them on their own. Once an achievement is completed, it will be displayed.]"

Jiang Yu rubbed his chin. Did that mean he had to figure out the achievements himself?

Since there was a big gift package, could achievements be like the ones in the Pokémon mobile game he played in his previous life?

He remembered how, back then, he had defeated a thousand identical Pokémon in the same area just to grind levels—only to unlock the "Blood Feud" achievement.

The reward? In any area where that Pokémon could spawn, he would now only encounter that Pokémon—forever. It completely ruined his Pokédex Completion achievement.

It seemed achievements could be time-consuming or difficult. He decided to experiment with them later.

Next, he checked the [Tasks] tab—also empty.

"System, what about the task function?"

System: "[Tasks are randomly issued to the host. The host cannot manually accept tasks. Task rewards may increase or decrease depending on completion quality.]"

"So, I need to get my first Pokémon before I can receive tasks?"

[Task Issued: "The Journey Begins"]

Description: In the Pokémon world, people's lives are closely tied to Pokémon. Please find your first Pokémon partner.

Reward: Store Discount Coupon.

Judging Criteria: Pokémon quality.

"...Quality? Does that mean the Pokémon's talent level?"

System: "[Pokémon quality is more than just talent. The host must experience it firsthand.]"

Wow, this system really felt like an AI. It seemed Pokémon quality included multiple factors.

Next, he tested [Identification], but it only worked when looking at a Pokémon.

[Backpack] was currently empty.

[Cultivation] required him to input berries, which would then be processed into Pokéblocks.

Finally, the most anticipated [Store] function.

Would it have Mega Stones? Z-Rings? Z-Crystals? Sacred Bird Feathers? Groudon's Armor Fragments? Ho-Oh or Lugia's Feathers?

With excitement, Jiang Yu opened the store—

Only to find...

Poké Balls.

"...Seriously, system?"

Where was the epic loot? The god-tier items? The cool rare collectibles?

Disappointed, he closed the store and lay on the bed, thinking about which Pokémon to choose as his starter.

Fire-type Starters

When he thought of Fire-type starters, one Pokémon immediately came to mind—

The Universe's First Incineroar!

A versatile movepool,

Bulky stats,

High Physical Attack,

Intimidate—enter the battlefield, make opponents tremble, then surprise them with a high-five that slaps them into confusion.

If they recover, he growls: "What are you looking at?"

Before they can respond, he switches out.

Torchic was also a great choice. Blaziken's Speed Boost made it insane. Anyone who had used it knew its power.

After Mega Evolution, Blaziken had:

160 Attack and 130 Special Attack

Swords Dance + Speed Boost = One-shot everything.

Plus, its sleek, stylish design was amazing.

Water-type Starters

Mudkip was another solid choice. Swampert's Water/Ground typing meant only one 4x weakness to Grass, with an excellent move pool and tankiness.

Mega Swampert's Swift Swim doubled its speed in rain, making it a terrifying physical sweeper. With 150 Attack and 110 Defense, it could tank and hit hard.

Grass-type Starters

Among Grass-types, Snivy was a tempting pick. Its final evolution, Serperior, had Contrary, an incredible ability.

Not to mention, Serperior was elegant, proud, and full of personality.

It wasn't just about stats—its presence was majestic.

No, no, there are too many good choices! I can't decide!
