Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Conquering Scyther
Exeggutor's three heads glowed with blue energy as its Confusion attack restrained Scyther, binding the fierce Pokémon mid-air.
"Zahhh!" Scyther cried out, struggling against the psychic force, its body frozen and out of control.
For a Bug/Flying Pokémon like Scyther, who had never encountered a Psychic-type in the Evergreen Forest, this unfamiliar power left it completely disoriented.
"Smash it into the ground!" Gary commanded.
Under the psychic influence of Confusion, Scyther was slammed repeatedly into the ground with loud thuds.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Each impact drained Scyther's strength further, compounded by the energy-sapping vines of Leech Seed still wrapped around its midsection.
The warrior boy, standing nearby, watched in stunned silence. His scalp tingled with shock.
"This guy… he didn't even use his full strength against me," the warrior boy muttered to himself.
He had already been defeated by two Trainers from Pallet Town before, but Gary's sheer precision and power were on a completely different level.
"Why are Trainers from Pallet Town so terrifying?" the boy murmured, feeling a mix of admiration and intimidation.

Scyther's Perseverance
Despite its injuries, Scyther refused to collapse. Lying on the ground, it panted heavily but glared at Gary and Exeggutor with a defiant spirit.
Gary's expression softened slightly. "Good perseverance," he said. "But this battle is over. Come with me."
He reached into his pocket and threw a Poké Ball.
The ball struck Scyther's head, opened, and absorbed the Pokémon in a flash of red light.
The ball hit the ground and shook once.
Twice.
Three times.
Finally, it clicked shut, signaling a successful capture.

Inspecting Scyther
Gary walked over, picked up the Poké Ball, and checked Scyther's stats on his Pokédex.
[Pokémon: Scyther ♂]
Type: Bug/Flying
Level: 15
Potential: Gym
Ability: Technician (Boosts the power of moves with base power 60 or less by 50%)
Moves: Leer, Quick Attack, Fury Cutter, False Swipe, Wing Attack
Friendship: 115/255
"Technician, huh? Perfect," Gary said with satisfaction.
Scyther's Technician ability was ideal, as it enhanced its already formidable speed and precision. If it had been any other ability, Gary would have been forced to find an Ability Capsule—a rare item not yet developed in this timeline.
"This Scyther is going to be a key player on my team," he mused.

Reward for the Warrior Boy
After storing the Poké Ball, Gary reached into his backpack and handed a large banknote to the warrior boy.
"Here, your reward," Gary said.
The boy hesitated before taking it. "Oh… thank you!"
He stared at the 20,000 yen bill in awe. It was the first time he had seen so much money in one place.
"By the way," the boy said after a moment, "I never asked—what's your name?"
"Gary," he answered without hesitation.
The boy nodded, committing the name to memory. "Gary… I'll never forget this day."

Journey to Nibi City
After leaving the Scyther's territory, Gary said his goodbyes to the warrior boy and continued on his journey.
The Evergreen Forest was vast, and even at his current pace, it would take several days to reach Nibi City. Ash had taken two weeks to traverse the forest; Gary estimated he could make it in three to four days on his custom Fengma Group mountain bike.
As night fell, Gary found a quiet clearing by the road. He set up camp, prepared a simple meal, and began feeding his Pokémon.
"Here you go," he said, handing out Energy Cubes. "These will help you grow strong."
For Caterpie and Scyther, who had spent their lives in the wild, the carefully crafted Pokémon feed and energy cubes were a revelation. They devoured their meals eagerly, their admiration for Gary growing with each bite.
"A Trainer who can provide food and safety? Not bad," Gary thought as he observed his Pokémon.
---
Building Trust
Pokémon, especially wild ones, are intelligent enough to recognize capable Trainers. Caterpie and Scyther, impressed by their new living conditions, were already warming up to Gary.
"Rest well tonight, everyone," Gary said after dinner. "Training starts tomorrow."
With four Pokémon in his party, Gary needed a structured training plan to prepare for the upcoming Nibi Gym challenge.
---
Training Plan
The next morning, Gary outlined his strategy for each Pokémon:
1. Scyther and Squirtle:
These two would train together. Squirtle would use Water Gun to target Scyther, while Scyther would use its scythes to deflect the attacks. This would improve Scyther's reaction time and agility while refining Squirtle's aim and endurance.
2. Exeggutor and Caterpie:
Exeggutor would bask in the sun to enhance its Photosynthesis, strengthening its psychic abilities. Meanwhile, it would use Hypnosis on Caterpie, improving its telepathic control while giving Caterpie much-needed rest.
3. Caterpie's Evolution:
Gary noted that Caterpie, now at Level 8, should have already evolved into Metapod. However, its rare shiny appearance made it a target for predators like Spearow and Pidgeotto, forcing it to remain vigilant and limiting its energy intake.
"If Caterpie hasn't stored enough energy, it might fail to survive its evolution into Butterfree," Gary thought.
To avoid such a disaster, he ensured Caterpie received extra food and protection.

Preparing for Nibi Gym
Gary's ultimate goal was to challenge the Nibi Gym. To do so, he needed to level up his team, particularly Squirtle, his best bet against the Gym's Rock-type Pokémon.
"Exeggutor can also handle the Nibi Gym," Gary reasoned. "But I need Squirtle to evolve into Blastoise quickly. A strong Water-type will be crucial for future battles."
As Gary finalized his plans, he felt a surge of confidence. With a growing team of capable Pokémon and a clear strategy, his path to becoming a Pokémon Master was taking shape.
