Carvanha were not completely emotionless or cold-blooded creatures—they too had fear. In fact, when there was only a single Carvanha, it was incredibly timid.

As their numbers dwindled and they could no longer rely on a numerical advantage, their fear began to outweigh their bloodlust.

This extermination operation lasted for over an hour. The river surface nearby was dyed red with blood, and even though the current was swift, it couldn't wash away all the blood immediately.

The sheer amount of blood spilled indirectly attested to how significant the victory was—at least half the Carvanha population in the river had been wiped out.

Now, even though the water was thick with the stench of blood, not a single Carvanha dared to approach. The once-arrogant hunters of the river were now like rats scurrying across the street, living in constant fear.

In fact, the moment one of the Carvanha gave in to fear and turned to flee, the rest seemed to snap back to their senses.

Within ten seconds, the swarm of Carvanha in the nearby waters scattered in all directions.

After the Carvanha army fled in panic, the Water-type Pokemon led by Golduck, along with those on both riverbanks, erupted in cheers, celebrating their victory.

But the moment the battle ended, the Pokemon—having achieved their respective goals—quickly grew wary of each other again. The Mareep clan, in particular, were especially cautious toward the nearby carnivorous wild Pokemon.

Thankfully, a sense of camaraderie from the joint battle still lingered. And since the carnivorous wild Pokemon had gained a hefty amount of loot from the fight, no further bloodshed occurred.

Eventually, they all left, satisfied.

Sato, too, departed in high spirits. Bellossom had truly stolen the spotlight in this operation and gained a substantial amount of experience. She had just leveled up the night before, and now she had leveled up again—reaching Level 44.

As for Arcanine and Ursaring, their results weren't quite as remarkable. The number of Carvanha they defeated combined didn't even amount to one-third of Bellossom's count.

Ariados, on the other hand, gained quite a bit this time. By watching its kin from the sidelines and learning by observation, it quickly picked up the basics of the move Pin Missile.

Soon after, Ariados joined the operation using its newly learned Pin Missile. With Swords Dance used three times and combined with Focus Energy, Ariados' Pin Missile had power comparable to sniper rounds.

Though the number of Carvanha Ariados defeated still didn't match Bellossom's, it gained a large chunk of experience. Since its level wasn't particularly high to begin with, Ariados leveled up twice in one go—reaching Level 38.

With the operation complete, Sato continued riding Arcanine upstream along the river. The river's width hadn't changed much—it was still about 20 meters across.

As they moved, without realizing it, Sato and Arcanine exited Spider Forest and arrived at the northern Tauros Mountains.

The foothills of the Tauros Mountain consisted of vast grasslands surrounded by hills. Thanks to the nearby abundant water sources, lush wild grasses thrived across the plains.

Naturally, this attracted many herbivores and wild Pokemon, such as the Mareep clan that usually grazed here.

Interestingly, Tauros weren't actually the rulers of this area. The region was called the Tauros Mountain simply because the Tauros herd was the largest group here.

The true rulers were actually a pride of Litleo. A small Litleo group lived in the Mountain, led by a Pyroar whose strength was nearly Elite Four-level.

Aside from the carnivorous Litleo pride, several Poochyena packs also roamed the region. Compared to the few Litleo, the Poochyena were much greater in number.

If not for the lack of a powerful Mightyena to unify these packs, the Litleo clan might've already been driven out of the Tauros Mountain.

As Sato entered the region, the terrain grew flatter. The river current wasn't as rapid, and its width and depth gradually decreased.

Looking out, Sato saw an endless stretch of low grassland. Though it was still technically part of the Mountain, the vast plains hidden between the surrounding hills were like fertile grazing grounds.

At the moment, a large herd of Tauros was leisurely grazing not far away. Meanwhile, over a dozen Mightyena were stealthily creeping through the grass, inching closer to the herd.

Aside from the wild Tauros, there were also herds of buffalo grazing nearby. But upon seeing Sato riding in on Arcanine, the buffalos scattered like startled deer.

"What a perfect place for hunting," Sato murmured. "So many slopes, plus a nearby river—great for drawing water. Even my red Gyarados could thrive in the river. This place would be an ideal site for a temporary new base."

Looking at the unique geography and the rich resources of the Tauros Mountain, Sato was already contemplating setting up a new base here.

After briefly observing the terrain, Sato continued upstream along the Carvanha-infested river on Arcanine's back. He hadn't forgotten his objective—to find a suitable place to cross the river.

Before long, he came across a narrow section of the river. With a running start, Arcanine successfully leaped across with Sato and landed on the opposite bank.

However, what Sato hadn't anticipated was the presence of a pack of Poochyena and Mightyena lying in wait in the tall grass on the other side. Arcanine's sudden arrival startled these local predators.

Though Arcanine exuded an aura that warned others not to mess with it, these predators, emboldened by their numbers, showed no fear. At their alpha's call, they swiftly surrounded Sato and Arcanine with coordinated movements.

"Awoo—!"

"Awoo—!"

"Awoo—!"

The Poochyena and Mightyena began to howl in unison as they circled in, trying to intimidate Sato and Arcanine.

"Well, guess this won't end peacefully. Come on out—Bellossom, Ursaring, Ariados, Gyarados. Prepare for battle."

Seeing that Arcanine had leapt straight into a den of wolves, Sato couldn't help but show a wry smile. But there was no fear on his face—he immediately tossed out four PokeBalls, releasing his main battle force.

To him, this pack of not-so-high-level Poochyena and Mightyena was the perfect opportunity for his team to train and level up.
