The river that separated Spider Forest from Shiftry Forest was actually called the Carvanha River—named for the large number of ferocious Carvanha that inhabited its waters.

Since Carvanha were the pre-evolved form of the sea thug Sharpedo, it was only natural that quite a few Sharpedo could also be found in the river. As Sato rode Arcanine upstream along the riverbank, he saw multiple dorsal fins cutting through the water's surface.

Carvanha and Sharpedo were both aggressive and terrifying carnivorous Pokémon. With few natural predators in the water and a rapid breeding rate, their unchecked presence had a devastating impact on other aquatic and riverside life.

Every year, countless wild animals and Pokémon became prey to Carvanha after straying too close to the water's edge. As for aquatic species, the damage was immeasurable. These swarming Carvanha were like locusts, leaving destruction in their wake.

As a result, to curb the rise of this bloodthirsty carnivorous species, neither the river-dwelling Water-type Pokémon nor those living along its banks hesitated to band together to cull the Carvanha population.

Of course, due to their rapid breeding cycle, completely wiping them out was impossible. The most one could do was limit their numbers.

Thus, whenever Carvanha populations grew too large, the river's Water-type Pokémon and the Pokémon on both shores would launch a spontaneous extermination campaign.

And sure enough, Sato had only been riding upstream for a short while when he witnessed quite the spectacle up ahead.

On the river's surface, under the command of a level 51 Golduck, a large group of Water-type Pokémon were engaged in a fierce battle against the Carvanha species.

The fight had clearly been raging for some time, with both sides sustaining casualties. The nearby waters were faintly tinged red from the bloodshed.

However, the sheer number of Carvanha made the battle incredibly difficult. The scent of blood only sent them into a further frenzy, shifting the numbers dangerously in their favor.

Fortunately, Golduck and its Water-type allies weren't fighting alone. On both banks of the river, a large swarm of Ariados and Spinarak, along with a herd of Mareep, Flaaffy, and Ampharos, were providing support against the Carvanha horde.

The reason the Ariados and Spinarak were helping was simple—food.

Ariados and Spinarak continuously fired volleys of Pin Missile at the Carvanha. Since Bug-types had a type advantage against Dark-types, and Carvanha were Water/Dark-type, the needle barrage quickly took down wave after wave of them.

In truth, only some of the spiders were attacking. Most focused instead on weaving webs to ensnare the already defeated Carvanha.

Due to the massive concentration of Carvanha drawn by the blood, a single web could trap a large cluster at once. Unfortunately, their razor-sharp teeth often tore through the silk before Ariados and Spinarak could pull the webs ashore.

Even so, the Spiders were highly efficient. Each web brought in four to six incapacitated Carvanha, and soon, the riverbank was piled high with tightly bound fish—former river predators turned into spider food reserves.

On the opposite bank, the Mareep line—being herbivorous Pokémon—weren't interested in eating Carvanha. They were simply helping reduce their numbers to make the riverside safer for drinking water in the future.

To avoid harming allies, the Mareep family only used low-power Electric-type moves, like Thunder Shock, and targeted areas where Carvanha were most densely packed.

Carvanha were classic glass cannons: high offense, low defense, with a Special Defense base stat of only 20 and HP at 45. Most were only around level 10. One Thunder Shock from a Mareep was enough to KO them instantly.

Under the electrical barrage, dozens of Carvanha floated belly-up to the surface, stunned or unconscious.

That was when Ariados and Spinarak would toss down their webs again and scoop up another net full of stunned fish.

Alongside the spiders, other carnivorous wild Pokémon also took the opportunity to scavenge, using their own methods to drag up the motionless Carvanha.

What started as an extermination effort quickly turned into a grand feast. The Carvanha infestation had become a valuable food source for the surrounding Pokémon. Wild Pokémon truly had their own ways of surviving nature's challenges.

Sato's arrival didn't disrupt the operation, but many Ariados and Spinarak remembered him and his Arcanine—the troublemakers who had stirred up chaos in Spider Forest—causing a stir among the spiders.

"What a feast… Well, I might as well get a share too. Come out—Bellossom, Ursaring, Ariados!"

"Bellossom, bombard the Carvanha in the water with Energy Ball!"

"Arcanine, join the battle with Hidden Power – Grass!"

"Ursaring, use Hyper Beam on the Carvanha, but don't try fishing them up!"

"Ariados, observe your kin's Pin Missile carefully. See if you can learn it!"

Seeing such a lively event, Sato couldn't just stand by and watch. He immediately sent out his Pokémon and joined the extermination effort.

The number of Carvanha in the river remained overwhelming. Driven into a frenzy by the scent of blood, they had no fear—only a relentless urge to devour, charging the battlefield in waves.

To Sato, this was an incredible opportunity for training. Missing out on it would be a shame. While the average level of the Carvanha was low—around level 10—they made up for it in sheer numbers.

~Woosh~Woosh!~

Boom-boom-boom!

Seconds later, a series of violent explosions rocked the river, sending geysers of water into the sky.

In a Grassy Terrain, Bellossom was launching one Energy Ball after another like a machine gun, targeting the most concentrated sections of Carvanha in the river.

With firepower fully unleashed, Bellossom became a veritable fish-blasting expert. The concentrated Energy Balls became powerful Grass-type bombs underwater, stunning entire schools of Carvanha.

In that moment, Bellossom alone delivered nearly half the damage output of the Mareep herd across the river.

Seeing this, the wild Pokémon and Golduck's Water-types all shivered instinctively. They began to look at Bellossom with newfound awe.
