"Ahhhhh!!"
As Combusken evolved into Blaziken, the crowd around the battlefield erupted into cheers and screams, their excitement palpable.
Blaziken's indomitable spirit as a Fire-type Pokémon resonated deeply with the audience, igniting their emotions to burn just as fiercely.
"Ugh, what a headache. They're making me and Golbat out to be villains here," Sato thought to himself as he observed the now fanatical support from the spectators for the newly evolved Blaziken.
He sighed silently.
"But they might be in for disappointment. Even though Combusken evolved into Blaziken, it's already at its limit. Victory is far from guaranteed."
With Blaziken's evolution complete, the battle resumed. Seizing the opportunity to strike first, Sato gave Golbat a small nod. Understanding the command, Golbat immediately unleashed an Air Cutter at Blaziken.
A fierce gust of wind, comparable to a Category 9 gale, swept through the battlefield. The intensity even dampened the fiery enthusiasm of the crowd, snapping Blaziken's attention back to the battle.
Twelve razor-sharp air blades materialized, seven of which, under Golbat's precise control, shifted angles mid-flight to converge on Blaziken.
Seeing the incoming attack, Blaziken lightly pushed off the ground, launching itself into the air and dodging the air blades with ease.
However, Golbat wasn't about to let Blaziken off so easily.
A green glint appeared in Golbat's eyes, and the seven air blades shimmered faintly before changing direction, homing in on Blaziken like a flock of pursuing birds.
Noticing the relentless pursuit, Blaziken's feet ignited in roaring flames. With swift, powerful movements, it performed mid-air Blaze Steps, leaving behind fiery afterimages and glowing trails as it rapidly approached Golbat.
The chasing blades, unable to keep up, lagged behind in futility.
The dazzling display of Blaziken's mid-air agility drew a wave of ecstatic cheers from the crowd. Many now fully devoted "fans" shouted encouragements, urging Blaziken to land a decisive blow on Golbat.
"Blaziken, end this quickly! Use Flare Blitz!"
Heiji's familiarity with Blaziken's newly learned moves was evident. As Blaziken closed in on Golbat, he commanded it to unleash a powerful new attack.
Heiji was well aware of Blaziken's condition. Despite its evolution, its injuries remained, and as Sato had anticipated, Blaziken was already at its breaking point. To win, it needed to strike decisively and swiftly.
Any further delay would exhaust the burst of energy fueled by its sheer will to win, causing it to collapse again.
In an instant, Blaziken's entire body became engulfed in scorching flames.
The fire rapidly shifted from an orange-red hue to an intense blue, transforming Blaziken into a deadly, blazing blue streak as it charged at Golbat with unstoppable momentum.
"Counter with Whirlwind Shield! Keep your distance—don't go head-to-head with it!"
Sato, reading his opponent's intent clearly, had no intention of engaging Blaziken in a direct clash. As the fiery figure approached, he immediately ordered Golbat to intercept with a move that could disrupt its path.
Responding promptly, Golbat's eyes glowed brighter, and its broad wings, now enveloped in concentrated Flying-type energy, beat powerfully.
A massive white cyclone, nearly four meters in diameter, materialized in Blaziken's path.
The cyclone spun furiously, pulling in air from all directions toward its center with incredible force. The suction effect around the vortex was astonishingly strong.
However, Blaziken's Flare Blitz, executed at full strength, was equally formidable.
The powerful flames enveloping Blaziken effortlessly tore through the cyclone's immense pulling force, shattering it in an instant.
In the blink of an eye, Blaziken closed in on Golbat. At that moment, Golbat had just barely completed its powerful Whirlwind attack.
Under Sato's grim expression, Blaziken's Flare Blitz struck Golbat head-on. The force of the impact sent Golbat, engulfed in flames, plummeting to the ground, raising a thick cloud of dust as it hit.
Blaziken, still cloaked in blue flames, landed gracefully on the battlefield.
As the dust settled, it became clear that the Pokémon lying in the crater was none other than Golbat. Its body was scorched black from the attack, but it had not yet lost the ability to fight.
Struggling, Golbat began to climb out of the crater, locking eyes with Blaziken, who stood on a nearby rock.
Golbat's determination to win was no less than Blaziken's. Despite its body nearing its limit and the sensation of numbness spreading through it, Golbat's willpower remained unbroken, keeping it upright even as it wavered on the verge of collapse.
"You can do it, Golbat."
Sato's heart was filled with both awe and admiration as he saw Golbat's defiant gaze. Silently, he cheered for Golbat, willing it to persevere.
The two Pokémon stared each other down, their intense rivalry plunging the battlefield into silence. In that moment, it felt as if only Golbat and Blaziken existed on the field.
One second, two seconds, three seconds… At the ninth second, the battle's outcome was finally decided.
With a faint "thud," the blue flames surrounding Blaziken's body flickered and disappeared. As the fire died out, Blaziken's body collapsed onto the ground, unmoving.
"The battle is over! Blaziken is unable to continue! The winner of this match is Golbat!"
The referee had silently counted to ten once more, but this time, Blaziken could not rise again. Without hesitation, the referee declared the match's result.
"Ahhhh!!!"
The battlefield erupted into cheers and applause. The crowd celebrated Golbat's victory with jubilant shouts. Only a few spectators expressed regret for Blaziken's defeat.
Such is the harsh reality of battle. The victor claims the glory, while the defeated fade into obscurity. No matter how popular Blaziken had been moments ago, as the loser, it was destined to lose the spotlight.
At this moment, Sato rushed onto the battlefield. He picked up Golbat, showering it with praise for its outstanding performance. Golbat, elated by the hard-earned victory, appeared in much better spirits.
Thanks to its triumph over the formidable Blaziken, Golbat, originally at Level 32, had risen to Level 34, surpassing Bellossom, which had reached Level 33.
Afterward, Sato returned Golbat to its PokeBall and made his way back to the battle platform.
Now, Heiji Kuroya had lost two consecutive matches, leaving him with only one Pokémon to face the next battle. He had no room left for retreat.
