A massive rock sword thousands of meters long sliced through the sky!
Countless beams of white light burst forth like a thousand laser cannons firing simultaneously!
Facing the combined assault from Groudon and Kyogre, Rayquaza immediately displayed the exceptional agility befitting a legendary Flying Pokémon!
With nimble movements, it deftly avoided Kyogre's Origin Pulse in mid-air. Even attacks comparable to cruise missiles could hardly touch it.
Then Rayquaza took a direct hit from Groudon's Precipice Blades.
Completely unharmed!
"Precipice Blades is a Ground-type move that doesn't affect Flying-types like Rayquaza—that's an absolute rule! An unbreakable law, even if Arceus himself descended!" Chris thought to himself. "Poor Groudon, who just boasted about knowing type matchups. Why do these high-level battles sometimes lack basic intelligence?"
Rayquaza, now irritated after being attacked by these two foolish legendaries, flashed with genuine anger in its eyes.
"Is this some kind of joke? I won't tolerate this disrespect!" Rayquaza roared. "I'll show you my power with DRAGON ASCENT!"
The Sky High Pokémon transformed into a golden streak across the sky, resembling a meteor trailing flames as it tore through the atmosphere!
"BOOM!"
The impact created a thunderous explosion, with soundwaves powerful enough to push back the seawater hundreds of meters.
Groudon suffered a severe blow to its head, its massive hundred-meter body stumbling backward uncontrollably. Maxie, who had been standing atop Groudon's head, was violently thrown off.
He barely splashed into the water before being retrieved by a red assault boat nearby.
It was a Team Magma grunt who had been hiding nearby. What was supposed to be a "glorious moment" witnessing their leader's triumph had unexpectedly turned into a rescue mission.
"BOOM!" Another deafening crash followed as Kyogre was struck hard.
Though not as severely injured as Groudon, Rayquaza followed up its attack on Groudon with a powerful Dragon Tail against Kyogre.
The impact was strong enough to send Archie flying from atop Kyogre's head.
The rage-filled eyes of both Groudon and Kyogre soon returned to normal, no longer influenced by the orbs' power that Maxie and Archie had used to control them.
Looking up at their angry Rayquaza, the two ancient Pokémon appeared embarrassed and promptly chose to retreat.
Kyogre lowered its massive head and dove into the depths of the ocean, likely seeking a secluded corner in the deep sea to resume its slumber.
Groudon turned away, taking one heavy step after another toward the mainland, leaving trails of magma and embers in its wake.
Which raised an amusing question: Groudon's lair was known to be near Mt. Chimney.
How long would it take for Groudon to walk from Sootopolis City back to its den?
Chris estimated it would take at least until the morning after tomorrow.
Because unlike Rayquaza, Groudon couldn't fly!
Ha ha ha ha....
Rayquaza, seeing that they had obediently departed, decided it had no reason to remain. Its sleek form immediately soared toward the sky, disappearing into the clouds within seconds.
All that remained was post-battle chaos.
Broken ship fragments, smoldering trails of magma, and two Champion Trainers who had nearly fallen while trying to contain the ancient Pokémon.
Steven sat exhausted atop his Metagross.
During the battle, all his Pokémon had been defeated by Kyogre, and even Metagross itself lacked the strength to maintain its Mega Evolution.
He had truly exhausted his last reserves of energy.
Wallace lay directly on the sea's surface, his Milotic circling protectively beneath him while using Life Dew to restore his strength. Like Steven, all his Pokémon had lost their ability to battle.
If not for Pokémon's natural protection mechanisms, several would likely have perished in the conflict.
To the ancient legendary Pokémon, this had been merely a playful skirmish, but to humans, it was nothing less than a catastrophic disaster!
Chris landed in front of Steven.
"Chris, you succeeded!" Although Steven was exhausted, he still managed to give Chris a thumbs up. If Rayquaza had arrived any later, he probably would have perished here today.
"I'll document today's events and report to the Pokémon League, requesting they provide you with a proper reward!"
Chris recalled that Lance had made a similar promise, yet he still hadn't received any rewards from either the Johto or Kanto Leagues.
Perhaps Champions just loved making grand promises they couldn't keep?
"Chris, Steven tells me you're challenging the Hoenn League as well," Wallace called out.
"I look forward to facing you in battle when that time comes." Wallace, still lying on the water's surface, waved to Chris.
At that moment, the scenery before Chris's eyes began to fade.
He returned to reality as the story sequence ended.
There was no prompt on his handheld device offering any rewards.
But none of that mattered now—the Jade Orb from the story mode was already the best reward he could have received.
Chris was eager to examine the attributes of the Red Orb and Blue Orb he now possessed.
He immediately opened his backpack.
Blue Orb: Created by ancient humans to control the legendary Pokémon. With it, you can awaken the god of the sea in certain special locations!
Those who possess it can understand Kyogre's thoughts and even harness power from Kyogre itself!
Interesting!
The description matched that of the Jade Orb!
He took out the Red Orb next and found its description was identical.
So... could he also receive power from Kyogre and Groudon if he wished?
The moment this thought crossed his mind, Chris's hands began to glow—the two orbs simultaneously merged into his body.
Instantly, blue lines appeared on his left arm, emanating a deep coldness, while fiery red lines manifested on his right arm, radiating restless heat.
Surprisingly, neither sensation caused much discomfort.
"The power of possessing two orbs simultaneously..." Chris murmured in amazement. He snapped his fingers together, conjuring a ball of flames in one hand and a sphere of water in the other.
It worked exactly as he had imagined.
"If I can wield the power of two orbs simultaneously, could I harness the power of all three?" Chris retrieved the Jade Orb from his device.
This time, the orb didn't enter through his palm but directly through his chest.
He removed his shirt to examine the changes.
A green sun-like pattern had formed on his chest, with countless green light lines extending throughout his limbs. His left arm remained covered in blue lines, while his right arm continued to display red patterns.
It looked impressive, but perhaps too conspicuous for everyday use.
With a mere thought, the glowing lines faded away. When not actively using the orbs' power, the markings disappeared completely.
Gazing into the mirror, Chris felt a sense of boundless potential!
From this day forward, if his Pokémon couldn't defeat a challenging Rival, he, as a Trainer, would enter the battle himself!
