After trading 30 million Pokédollars to Lorenzo, he called in someone to help excavate the slate embedded with Aerodactyl and Kabutops fossils. The Aerodactyl fossil was given to Chris, and Chris suggested that Bengrey head to the Hoenn Region to revive the Kabutops fossil at Devon Manufacturing Co., Ltd.

"President Stone has always taken good care of me, and Steven often provides me with useful items. Introducing them to new business is just reciprocal," Chris mused.

Accepting the stone slab, he carefully placed it into his backpack for examination. To his surprise, he discovered that the Aerodactyl fossil was exceptionally complete.

Complete Fossil of Aerodactyl (Darkness): A whole fossil of Aerodactyl radiating an intensely dark aura.

"Could this Aerodactyl really be from the 'evil treasure' Latios and Latias destroyed?" Chris frowned. "But isn't fossilization supposed to take eons?"

Unable to make sense of it, he shrugged. "This is the Pokémon world—anything's possible."

As for Aerodactyl being a dark Pokémon, Chris wasn't particularly concerned. Even if it emerged with dark powers, a newly resurrected Aerodactyl would only be at level one, making it manageable in battle. However, if the darkness could be controlled, it would grant him a powerful Pokémon with mastery over dark energy.

Chris reflected on his knowledge of dark Pokémon. These beings were introduced in side games like Pokémon Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, set in a region called Orre. Dark Pokémon were artificially modified to be emotionless, pure fighters—perfect, unfeeling warriors.

"But could this Aerodactyl be a dark Pokémon from Orre, preserved in a fossil?" Chris wondered. Unfortunately, Johto Region lacked fossil restoration technology, meaning he would have to wait another month to return to the Hoenn Region.

"Huh?" Chris suddenly noticed that the map interface on his Pokégear was glowing. The cities he had visited in the Hoenn Region were highlighted, signaling that they could be reached using Fly.

"You can't Fly across oceans on a Wave Breaker, but you can Fly between regions while on land?!" Chris's eyes lit up.

The water capital of his current location was also glowing, suggesting it could be revisited at any time using Fly. Excited to test this, Chris selected Fortree City as his destination.

A prompt appeared:

[Is Flygon using Fly to travel to Hoenn Region - Fortree City?]

"Cross-region travel takes extra time," Chris murmured thoughtfully. While this was reasonable, it was still much faster than the month-long journey by Wave Breaker. Travel time appeared to be instantaneous, which he suspected was influenced by Flygon's speed and level. "When I have Aerodactyl, Salamence, or even Rayquaza, flying between regions should be even faster."

This was a breakthrough. Once he concluded his business in Johto, he could Fly back to Hoenn without waiting for the Wave Breaker. This newfound ability would allow him to streamline his plans, resurrect the Aerodactyl fossil, and tackle the Volcano Project, all without delays.

Chris decided to find a direct boat in the Johto Region that could take him to the Kalos Region.

With the increasing number of Mega Evolution stones he had collected, Chris's desire for a Mega Bracelet grew stronger. The Mega Bracelet was no longer just a wish—it was a necessity.

"Only by obtaining the Mega Bracelet can I attempt Mega Evolution. Whether I succeed or not, at least I'll gain a deeper understanding of the bond between myself and my Pokémon," Chris resolved.

He canceled his plans for Fly travel.

The journey time using Flygon was approximately 65 hours, less than three days, but still too lengthy for his current circumstances.

The Breaker couldn't stay docked at Alto Mare for more than 48 hours. Chris estimated that he would need to travel to the city region by himself before it set sail.

He decided to postpone flying to the Hoenn Region until after reaching the Johto Region. Chris noted that Alto Mare was part of the Johto Region, specifically near its southernmost point, Azalea Town, but technically it wasn't marked on the region's map.

He carefully stored the Aerodactyl fossil away.

"Today's a double blessing," Chris said to himself. "Not only did I acquire an Aerodactyl fossil imbued with dark powers, but I also discovered the ability to quickly Fly back to Hoenn."

Feeling encouraged by his luck, he decided to see if there were more treasures to be found.

Chris pulled out the Dowsing Machine again.

Unlike his visit to the church, where he found useful items, the Sun Tower seemed devoid of hidden items. However, Chris let Gardevoir use Teleport to check various locations in Alto Mare.

He discovered a few treasure-grade Pokémon items, but nothing extraordinary enough to pique his interest.

"I guess you can't always be too greedy," Chris said, stretching after his treasure hunt around Alto Mare.

A quick glance at his watch showed it was three in the afternoon. He had about three hours until dusk.

"Let's get some training in. Tomorrow morning, I can start preparing my notes!" Chris released his Greninja.

"Click!" Greninja pounded its chest in reassurance, radiating confidence.

"That's the spirit! Let's get going!" Chris grabbed his small boat and headed for the beach.

About half an hour later:

"Greninja, slow down! I've had enough of swallowing seawater!" Chris protested.

"Click! (Master, it's your weak back to blame for not being steady!)" Greninja teased.

"Stop pointing fingers at my back! I eat well to keep it strong—it's not weak!" Chris retorted, though his tone was more amused than annoyed.
