The mall tournament was in full swing, and it was finally Ryuu's turn to battle.

Aio had been waiting by the ring for a while, eager to cheer him on.

Ryuu's opponent was from Tokyo No. 6 High School—one of the top-ranking schools in the city.

His name? Takeda Renji.

Ryuu didn't know much about him, nor did he particularly care.

After all, it wasn't like students went around digging up information on each other's Pokémon.

"I leave this to you, Poliwag!" Renji shouted, tossing out his Poké Ball.

A small, round, blue Pokémon appeared, its spiral-patterned belly shimmering under the stadium lights.

Poliwag wasn't exactly rare, but it was a solid choice for a Water-type.

Renji stood confidently, smirking.

"Your turn, Ryuu. Let's see what you've got," he taunted.

Ryuu didn't even flinch.

"Frogadier, let's end this quickly."

A burst of blue light flashed as Frogadier emerged onto the battlefield.

The moment it appeared, murmurs rippled through the crowd.

"Wait… that's Frogadier!"

"It's already evolved?! How rich is this guy?"

"Yeah, some of us are still stuck with our first-stage Pokémon!"

Their voices were tinged with envy and frustration.

After all, those who could afford strong Pokémon and advanced resources had a clear advantage.

Among the crowd, a teenager watched Ryuu closely, recognizing who he was.

Meanwhile, Renji's confidence wavered.

He had thought his Poliwag was strong enough.

But the moment he saw Ryuu's Frogadier, reality hit him hard.

There was no way he could win this.

Ryuu gave a simple command.

"Frogadier, Water Pulse."

Renji barely had time to react.

Before he could even issue an order, a powerful stream of water slammed into Poliwag.

Boom!

Poliwag flew backward, tumbling out of the ring.

It was over.

Renji: "..."

The entire first-round bracket went silent.

They all had the same thought.

This guy is a monster.

"The match is over!" the referee announced.

"Poliwag is unable to battle! Ryuu advances to the next round!"

Ryuu simply returned Frogadier to its Poké Ball and stepped off the stage.

Aio rushed to his side.

"That was incredible!" she beamed.

"Nahh, he was just too weak," Ryuu replied casually.

He wasn't wrong.

As the tournament continued, trainers battled one after another, some winning, some losing.

That was just how it was.

The strong moved forward.

The weak were eliminated.

Unfortunately, Aio was among those eliminated.

Tokyo was a massive city with elite trainers, and many competitors had received early access to Pokémon training.

Aio was strong, but she wasn't as lucky as Ryuu.

Unlike him, she hadn't inherited elite-level training resources.

But that didn't matter.

"Don't worry, Aio," Ryuu said, resting a hand on her shoulder.

"You did great. I'll win for both of us."

Aio looked up at him, eyes shining.

"Yeah… I know you will," she smiled.

Their moment was interrupted by cheering from another part of the stadium.

"Look, it's Servine!"

"That guy must be rich too!"

Curious, Ryuu turned his attention toward another battle.

A green, serpentine Pokémon stood in the ring, facing off against a Geodude.

"Leaf Tornado!"

With a single command, Servine whipped up a powerful storm of leaves, sending Geodude flying across the arena.

It was completely one-sided.

Ryuu narrowed his eyes.

"That Servine is dangerous," Aio muttered.

"It's an evolved Pokémon… and it has a type advantage over Frogadier."

She wasn't wrong.

Ryuu had been enjoying the fight, but now, a thought crossed his mind.

That thing is my next opponent, isn't it?

He glanced at the Servine's trainer—a boy with a confident smirk.

Ryuu immediately recognized him.

Itsuki Hoshino.

Son of Tokyo's Grass-type Elite Trainer.

Their families had bad blood.

Years ago, Ryuu's father had defeated Itsuki's father in the Elite Gym Leader selection, securing his position.

Ever since, the two families had been rivals.

And now, their sons were about to clash.

"This just got interesting," Ryuu muttered, smirking.
