Pokemon: My Fate System Is Too Overpowered!!

Chapter 27: Chapter 26: Shindou Aio Crushes Shun in Battle

The tournament had begun.

Each match was a one-on-one elimination battle. The winner would move forward, while the loser would be eliminated.

To prevent excessive fatigue, trainers who won a match were given a short break before their next round.

Ryuu checked his placement in the brackets.

He wouldn't be battling until the fourth round at the earliest.

Aio, however, was up first—and her opponent just so happened to be Shun.

Instead of waiting around, Ryuu decided to watch her match and cheer her on.

"Aio, you got this!" he called out.

The crowd erupted in support for Aio.

She was beautiful, confident, and popular.

Meanwhile, Shun?

He was awkward, creepy, and downright unpleasant.

Not a single person was cheering for him.

The overwhelming favoritism from the audience only fueled Shun's rage.

He was going to crush Aio—show everyone his true strength.

Maybe then, Aio would realize how powerful he was.

Maybe she'd even fall for him.

Of course, all of this was just in his head.

Aio had never liked him.

And she never would.

"Aio, don't worry, I'll go easy on you."

Shun's voice was oozing arrogance, his expression twisted into a sleazy grin.

Aio's frown deepened.

She already disliked Shun.

But this?

Acting like he was doing her a favor?

Did he think she was weak?

That she needed him to hold back?

It was insulting.

Although Aio wanted to become a breeder, she never neglected training.

If she wanted to stand beside Ryuu, she needed to be strong enough.

And that meant proving herself in battle.

"Shun, I won't lose to you. Let's go, Charmander!"

Aio released her Charmander onto the battlefield.

It had quasi-Elite potential, and thanks to the high-quality energy cubes Ryuu had given her, it was thriving.

[Pokémon: Charmander]

[Level: 12]

[Potential: Quasi-Elite]

After a week of training, it had already reached Common level—stronger than the average Charmander.

That, combined with Aio's support, made it a formidable opponent.

---

"Torchic, let's do this!"

Shun released his Torchic, looking confident as ever.

"Torchiiiic!"

Torchic puffed out its chest, trying to look strong.

"See that?" Shun bragged. "My Torchic is way stronger than yours."

Ryuu shook his head from the sidelines.

Shun had invested a ton of resources into Torchic—high-quality energy cubes, special fire-type training minerals…

But in the end?

Torchic was still weak.

Compared to Aio's Charmander, it wasn't even a contest.

There was no way Shun was winning this battle.

"Torchic, use Ember!"

Shun was the first to attack.

Torchic spat out flames, its Ember attack stronger than before thanks to all the training.

But still—

It wasn't enough.

Charmander could easily handle it.

Ryuu watched with a bored expression.

Aio's Charmander was already at Common level.

Torchic was still at novice level.

There was zero chance Torchic could win.

This fight was already over before it even began.

"Charmander, Smokescreen!"

Aio countered instantly.

Charmander exhaled a thick cloud of black smoke, covering half the battlefield.

Shun's vision was blocked—he couldn't see Charmander nor torchic anymore.

"Wait—what?!"

Before Shun could react—

"Charmander, Scratch!"

Aio's command rang out from the shadows.

Charmander darted through the smoke, claws glowing white.

It slashed Torchic across the chest in a clean, precise strike.

Torchic screeched in pain.

Shun was panicking now.

"Torchic, Ember! Hurry!"

Torchic desperately spat out flames, but—

Too late.

Charmander endured the hit, its eyes burning with determination.

Then—

It raked Torchic across the face with another powerful Scratch attack.

With a final cry, Torchic collapsed.

Fainted.

Shun: "..."

Shun was speechless.

One hit.

Just one hit—and Torchic was down.

This wasn't supposed to happen.

He had invested so many resources.

Why was his Torchic so weak?!

"Torchic is unable to battle! The winner is Charmander! Shindou Aio advances to the next round!"

The referee raised the flag.

The audience erupted into cheers.

Aio beamed, her face glowing with excitement.

She turned toward Ryuu and waved proudly.

Ryuu grinned and gave her a thumbs up.

She had done great.

She deserved that win.

###

Seeing this, the crowd went wild and merciless on the poor shun.

"This guy was talking so much trash, and then he lost in one hit?"

"Seriously? I thought he was strong, but he got wrecked!"

"Man, if I had a Torchic like that, I'd release it out of shame."

The mocking laughter surrounded Shun like a storm.

His face turned red, his fists clenching at his sides.

It wasn't his fault.

It was Torchic's fault.

If Torchic wasn't so weak, he wouldn't have been humiliated like this.

For a brief moment, he considered abandoning it.

But with so many people watching, he couldn't afford to throw a tantrum.

Besides—

His family wasn't rich enough to just buy a new Pokémon.

He had no choice but to keep Torchic.

Even if it was pathetic.

---

Meanwhile, Aio was celebrating.

"Ryuu, did you see that? I won!"

She was beaming, her face bright with happiness.

"You were amazing," Ryuu said honestly. "That was some great strategy."

Aio flushed slightly, looking away.

"I-It was nothing…"

She was clearly proud, though.

And she should be.

She had completely crushed Shun.

Ryuu chuckled to himself.

Honestly?

He was so glad he never picked Torchic.

Dodged a bullet there.
