Pokémon: I’m Really Not a Team Rocket Spy

Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Mew

It shouldn't have been possible—absolutely not. After all, though Maki had run a fair distance into the forest upon spotting the Ursaring, she hadn't reached the true depths of the woods.

At such a close range, countless trainers passed through this area every year. If a group of Starter Pokémon really lived here, the possibilities were limited: either the Pokémon League would have captured them all, packaged, and relocated them, or passing trainers would've caught them. At worst, they'd fall prey to Pokémon hunters, ending up on the black market for a high price.

In short, such a rare Pokémon shouldn't exist in this area.

As for Ash Ketchum in Kanto, catching a Starter Pokémon practically every episode—well, Maki could only mutter, "Don't try to imitate the main character without their plot armor."

Unbeknownst to Maki, a pink Pokémon was quietly approaching the unexpected visitor who had stumbled into its home.

"Hehe~"

Mew couldn't help but giggle when it saw Maki's puzzled expression. Its soft pink hands reached out as though it intended to play a little prank on him.

Mew had always loved mischief. With a personality as carefree as a child's, it usually spent its days playing pranks on other Pokémon when it wasn't otherwise occupied.

However, before it could sneak any closer, a beam of red light flashed as Dragonite emerged from its Poké Ball, positioning itself firmly between Maki and the unseen intruder.

"Bwooooh!"

Dragonite roared into the sky, eyes fixed on the seemingly empty space ahead. Mew's ability to turn invisible and suppress its presence made it impossible for even Dragonite to spot it.

Still, even inside its Poké Ball, Dragonite had sensed a faint, familiar aura—that was why it had come out.

"Meemeemeeme! Σ(°△°|||)︴"

Mew was so startled by Dragonite's sudden appearance that it accidentally dropped its invisibility, nearly falling onto its rear.

"Dragonite?"

Maki was about to ask why Dragonite had emerged on its own when she noticed the pink Legendary Pokémon.

"Mew?"

"Meemeeme!"

As if to express its shock, Mew patted its chest nervously. In the blink of an eye, it darted to the top of Dragonite's head.

"Meh!"

It lightly tapped Dragonite on the head, a playful "punishment" for scaring it.

But this was no ordinary Pokémon. Dragonite's head wasn't something just anyone could touch.

Feeling "attacked" by the tiny stranger, Dragonite immediately raised its claw, ready to retaliate. Aside from Giovanni, no one had ever dared to touch its head like this.

Dragonite's claw became shrouded in Dragon-type energy as it prepared to strike back at Mew.

Mew flinched. It was just a playful pat—was that really worth such an aggressive response?

Still, Mew mimicked Dragonite's energy technique, coating its own small hand in Dragon-type energy—Dragon Claw!

Mew's genetic makeup included the DNA of all Pokémon, theoretically allowing it to learn every move.

Despite its small frame—barely larger than a Charmander—Mew unleashed a massive surge of energy.

The pink hand and Dragonite's claw collided, generating a shockwave so powerful it felt like a hurricane had swept through. Maki was forced to retreat, bracing against the gale.

Although Mew's innate power as a Legendary Pokémon made it far from weak, it wasn't exactly a combat specialist. Facing Dragonite's well-practiced Dragon Claw, Mew couldn't gain the upper hand.

Mew was sent flying by Dragonite's immense strength but remained unhurt.

Dragonite saw its chance to continue the attack, but Maki quickly intervened.

"Wait, Dragonite!"

Maki quickly realized his mistake—Dragonite wouldn't listen to his commands.

"Bwooooh!"

Dragonite roared again, signaling for Maki to stay back. It flapped its wings rapidly, gathering fierce winds in front of it. With another deafening roar, it unleashed several Hurricane attacks toward Mew.

Now genuinely alarmed, Mew realized this "big lug" was terrifyingly strong.

Although Mew often pranked wild Pokémon, most would back off after it mimicked their moves. But this Dragonite? It wasn't backing down.

Regretting its playful tap, Mew rubbed its tiny head, but Dragonite's attack was already upon it.

Mew raised its small hands, eyes glowing with a pale blue light—Psychic!

At that moment, Mew finally took things seriously. As a Psychic-type Pokémon, its Psychic-based moves were its most powerful.

The sheer intensity of Mew's Psychic caused the surrounding space to warp slightly. The Psychic collided with Dragonite's Hurricane, creating an even more powerful explosion of energy.

Dragonite would've been better off staying in its Poké Ball!

Maki sighed internally, gripping a nearby tree tightly to avoid being blown away. Charmander had scurried up the tree and latched onto a sturdy branch, clinging for dear life.

"Hey, you two… ptooey! Stop fighting!"

Maki shouted, but his cry was cut short when a pair of leaves blew into his mouth.

"Meemeeme!"

Wiping imaginary sweat from its brow, Mew echoed Maki's plea for peace.

"Bwooooh."

After launching two massive attacks, Dragonite seemed to have calmed down a bit and, for once, listened to Maki, ceasing its assault.

Seeing Dragonite stand down, Mew instantly used Teleport, reappearing behind Maki. It wasn't stupid—it could tell this little human was the one Dragonite was protecting.

Dragonite, however, didn't know Mew's intentions. Seeing the Legendary Pokémon so close to Maki, it prepared to attack again. How could it face Giovanni if something happened to Maki?

"It's okay! Mew doesn't mean any harm," Maki quickly reassured Dragonite.

Realizing Maki's presence genuinely offered protection, Mew shamelessly perched itself on her shoulder, sticking its tongue out at Dragonite.

Charmander, noticing the situation had calmed, prepared to jump down from the tree. But after seeing the ongoing tension between Dragonite and Mew, it decided… maybe staying in the tree wasn't so bad after all.
