The situation on the third floor mirrored that of the second, with possessed people and Pokémon swarming everywhere.

Eddie employed the same strategy as before, shattering and freezing them for maximum effect. This time, however, he coordinated with Sabrina—she handled the shattering while he managed the freezing.

Alakazam continued using Psychic, conjuring powerful winds that scattered the possessed beings into fragments. Meanwhile, Greninja focused solely on freezing. Working together, they suppressed the entire third floor in just five minutes.

The Kangaskhan wasn't idle either. Eddie had commanded it to remain vigilant, attacking immediately if anything suspicious appeared. Eddie hadn't forgotten they were being watched. After all, something had to be controlling the purple mist and directing the possessed people and Pokémon to attack them.

From her position nearby, Sabrina observed Eddie's cautious expression and battle stance with interest.

"This Morning Sun ... there's a striking difference between his normal behavior and how he fights," she thought.

His combat awareness seemed exceptionally sharp. To Sabrina's experienced eye, his performance was comparable to her own—an elite trainer showing battle experience no worse than a Gym Leader. Yet once the fighting stopped, he reverted to his foolish demeanor.

"What's with this guy? Is he one of those people who seem timid or clueless normally but become formidable in battle?" she wondered. "Or has he been deceiving me this entire time?"

Sabrina didn't truly believe Eddie was manipulating her, but his performance had been so at odds with her initial impression that she couldn't determine whether he was acting or not.

"Well, whether he's acting or not, I should keep an eye on him. First, we need to complete the mission," she reminded herself.

Sabrina had come here not only to investigate the mastermind behind the incidents at Pokémon Tower but also to rescue a key person—or perhaps a valuable fighting asset?

"Haha, keep guessing. Even if you suspect I'm acting, you can't be completely sure. It's really entertaining to see her looking at me with such confusion and helplessness," Eddie thought smugly.

If Sabrina was secretly observing Eddie, why shouldn't he do the same? Their cooperation had formed because of his act, and since they were actually adversaries, Eddie naturally kept close tabs on Sabrina. He had caught her perplexed expression completely, which gave him a sense of satisfaction.

Though he wasn't sadistic, that didn't prevent him from enjoying the moment.

"Let's go, Miss Sofia," Eddie said with a bright smile once the battle ended. "This floor is clear. Let's check out the fourth floor."

There was that silly smile again. "This guy... whatever, I'll just ignore him for now and stay alert," Sabrina thought.

Whenever she saw Eddie's bright smile, Sabrina felt tempted to use Hypnosis on him since she couldn't determine if he was acting. If he wasn't, then it was just a simple silly smile; if he was, then the smile was loaded with mockery.

In the past, Sabrina might have simply attacked him regardless of whether he was acting or not. However, with the Kangaskhan watching over them, she couldn't resort to that and had to endure her frustration.

So Sabrina responded to Eddie cordially, and they continued their ascent.

Based on their experience on the second and third floors, Eddie and Sabrina expected the fourth floor to hold more possessed people and Pokémon. Since these enemies were easily dealt with, they both subconsciously relaxed their guard.

Then...

As soon as they reached the fourth floor, they were greeted by a ball of blazing flames and a glob of pungent poison emerging from the thick fog.

Just as they were about to be struck by these attacks due to their momentary carelessness—

"GAROOOO!!!"

The Kangaskhan sprang into action. Eddie had previously ordered it to guard them, and with its Champion-level strength, it could detect enemy attacks even without direct commands.

When Eddie and Sabrina were about to be hit, it roared and swiftly moved to protect them.

Facing these two attacks, the Kangaskhan used Mega Punch to strike the floor with tremendous force. The impact shattered the floorboards, lifting a section which the Pokémon used as an improvised shield against the attacks.

In truth, its power could have directly dispersed the attacks, but Kangaskhan wasn't foolish. The flames were manageable, but it wisely avoided touching the poison—contact would have been devastating.

That's why it chose this defensive method. A Champion-level Pokémon has experienced countless battles, and such tactical thinking comes naturally without trainer instructions.

Events proved the Kangaskhan's approach correct. The floor section easily blocked the flames, but upon contact with the poison, it corroded instantly.

"That's Flamethrower and Acid, but the Acid's power is terrifying," Eddie noted, recognizing the attacks while marveling at their destructive force.

"That's a Gym Leader's main Pokémon—Muk. Don't try physical attacks at close range," Sabrina warned. "This Muk has extraordinary vitality. Even if sliced into pieces, it won't die and can regenerate. Its sludge is more corrosive than the Acid attack we just saw. Get too close and get sprayed, and you'll lose your life instantly."

Since Sabrina had chosen to cooperate with Eddie, she felt obligated to share intelligence about their enemy. In her assessment, unless Eddie used Kangaskhan, his other Pokémon couldn't damage Muk—but sharing this information might at least prevent him from choosing the wrong battle approach.

Little did she know that Eddie was already well-informed about their opponent.

Just as Sabrina finished speaking, a massive Muk emerged from the thick fog, baring its fangs at them.

"A Gym Leader's main Pokémon? I can't handle that," Eddie said. "Kangaskhan is also a close-combat Pokémon, and my other Pokémon can't hurt it. Miss Sofia, I'll leave this enemy to you. I'll deal with the other threat."

Eddie displayed appropriate self-awareness. Such a powerful opponent would be better handled by someone of Sabrina's caliber. Meanwhile, he prepared to confront that arrogant figure lurking in the shadows once again.
