Colton customized a large number of energy cubes from Evan, agreeing to either pick them up later or have them delivered to him. Supporting Evan's business was his way of showing loyalty to an old friend.
With this new order, Evan felt ecstatic. The profits from Colton's Growlithe egg dealings practically offset the costs. After placing the order, Colton departed, planning to return during his travels, with Lake City as his first stop to retrieve the energy cubes.
After sending Colton off, Evan got to work immediately, preparing the specialized energy cubes. Meanwhile, Isla and the other helpers in the breeding house continued practicing their energy cube-making skills under Evan's guidance.
Sophia spent the afternoon in the backyard playing with her Kirlia, eventually leaving just as the sun dipped below the horizon.
The night passed uneventfully, and the next day Evan dove straight into his tasks.
While Evan was busy, his Shiny Gardevoir gathered Gallade and the other Pokémon for a private discussion.
"I've called you here to talk about strengthening ourselves," Gardevoir explained through telepathy, addressing Pikachu, Charmander, Lurantis, and Pidgeot.
'Pika?' Pikachu tilted its head in confusion.
'Char?' Charmander blinked curiously.
'Pidg?' Pidgeot ruffled its feathers.
Gallade looked at Gardevoir, equally perplexed. What was this about strength?
Unfazed, Gardevoir continued, her tone serious. "The master says he doesn't want to be a Trainer, but deep down, I know he still dreams of achieving greatness. He just doesn't have the time with all the Pokémon he cares for. He can't even visit gyms."
The Pokémon exchanged puzzled glances.
"That's where we come in," Gardevoir said, her eyes sparkling with determination. "If the master can't go to the gyms, we'll go for him!"
'Pikachu?' Pikachu's ears perked up.
'Char?' Charmander blinked again.
"Yes, you heard me," Gardevoir confirmed. "We're going to collect Gym Badges for the master. Pikachu, Charmander, Lurantis, and Pidgeot—you'll train hard and fight at the gyms. I'll come with you to negotiate with the Gym Leaders. This way, we'll achieve what the master dreams of but can't pursue himself."
The plan left Pikachu and Charmander stunned, but as the idea sank in, their eyes began to shine with excitement.
'Pika pika!' Pikachu exclaimed. "I know where the master keeps his Trainer ID!"
Charmander's flame flared in agreement. 'Char!'
Gardevoir nodded approvingly. "Good. Tomorrow, you'll sneak out his ID card. We'll need it to register for gym battles."
She turned to Kirlia, who had been quietly listening on the sidelines. "Sister, tell us about the national competition rules and the process for joining gyms. We need to prepare thoroughly."
Kirlia's eyes lit up with admiration. "Kirlia, Kirlia!" She eagerly began explaining everything she knew, excited at the thought of helping their Trainer achieve greatness without him even realizing it.
Together, the team set their plan into motion, determined to bring back victory for Evan while keeping their adventure a secret.
'Kirlia~~!'
'KirKirlia!!'
'Kirlialia~~!!'
Kirlia was bubbling with excitement as she continued explaining.
"All you need is the Trainer's ID card and certificate," she said eagerly. "Take these two to the Pokémon Center to register for the gym challenge. Then, you're good to go!
"Believe it or not, the Trainer doesn't even have to be there in person. As long as the Pokémon shows up, it's fine. The Alliance doesn't have any rules against it. It's just that… well, no one's tried this before."
Hearing this, Gardevoir nodded confidently. "Understood."
She turned to address the team of Pokémon. "Here's the plan: my brother Gallade and I won't participate unless it's absolutely necessary. The first Badge is all on you. Charmander, Pikachu, and Pidgeot—you'll be leading the charge."
She then directed her gaze at Charmander. "You'll go first, Charmander. You're the least experienced, so this will be good practice for you. After that, Pikachu will step in, and finally, Pidgeot will secure the win if needed."
Gallade tilted his head, curious. "What about me?"
"You'll handle throwing the Poké Ball," Gardevoir replied smoothly. "Since the master won't be there, someone has to send us out, and that'll be your job. I'll remain inside my Poké Ball to avoid drawing attention. It's too risky to appear directly."
'Lura?' Lurantis chimed in, looking slightly hurt. "What about me?"
Gardevoir smiled gently. "Don't worry, Lurantis. You'll join in for the next gym battle. For now, stay here and keep the master occupied. If he notices his ID card is missing, we're doomed. Distract him until we get back. If we work quickly, Pidgeot can fly us there and back in no time."
Hearing this, Lurantis nodded. "Got it. I'll handle things here."
Gardevoir reassured everyone, explaining that the first gym wasn't far—it was practically next door, in a nearby city they'd visited before. With Pidgeot's speed, they could complete the mission in just one morning.
The Pokémon huddled together, buzzing with excitement as they finalized their secret plan.
Meanwhile, at the Breeding House
Evan, completely unaware of his Pokémon's scheming, was hard at work crafting energy cubes.
Back in the yard, the Pokémon continued their training. Just as they were wrapping up their discussion, two Kirlia began glowing with a brilliant white light.
"Evolution!" someone exclaimed.
One Kirlia, equipped with a Dawn Stone, evolved into a majestic Gallade. The other gracefully transformed into a radiant Gardevoir.
The newly evolved Pokémon gazed at each other with pride. Gallade beamed with joy at his younger sibling's transformation.
"This is incredible!" he exclaimed. "We're growing stronger every day!"
The remaining Kirlia watched in awe, their hearts brimming with a mix of admiration and determination.
With two of their teammates evolving, Pikachu suddenly felt the pressure mount.
'Pikapi…' Pikachu sighed, resigning himself to the challenges ahead. "Guess it's my turn to step up."
Used to being the team's go-to battler, Pikachu shook off his nerves. "Pain's temporary, after all," he muttered, his determined eyes sparkling with resolve.
Gardevoir gave an approving nod before refocusing on their training. The plan was set, and the team was ready to make their master proud—even if he had no idea what they were up to.
