Evan suddenly looked puzzled when he saw this girl Luna.
"Luna?"
"What's wrong with you?"
When Luna heard this, she immediately smiled and ran in, holding something tightly.
"Brother Evan, it's shining. Look!"
Hearing her words, Evan took a closer look.
He discovered that Luna was holding a Pokémon egg in her arms. At this moment, the Pokémon egg was emitting light. It looked like it was about to hatch.
"Isn't this the egg Professor Ethan gave me?"
"Um? Is it going to hatch?"
Evan was startled. He quickly put down what he was doing and hurried over.
Seeing this, Luna handed the glowing Pokémon egg to him with care.
When she had passed by Evan's room earlier, she saw the egg glowing and decided to pick it up. Otherwise, there might have been no one around to witness this little one's birth.
"Hehe, brother Evan," Luna said with a grin. "It's up to you now. I'm leaving."
Although Luna was still young, she understood that it was best not to have other people around when a Pokémon hatched. A newly hatched Pokémon often bonds with the first creature it sees, regarding them as its parent. If she stayed, it might confuse the little one.
Hearing her reasoning, Evan nodded.
"Alright. By the way, Luna, could you help me warm up some Moomoo Milk? I'll need it soon."
"I got it," Luna replied. "I'll get it ready right away."
With that, Luna turned and left the room. Evan carefully placed the egg on a table and sat beside it, waiting quietly for it to hatch.
News of the soon-to-hatch Pokémon egg quickly spread among the children in the orphanage. Many of them couldn't sit still and came over to watch. However, some of the older and more responsible kids stopped them, reminding them not to go inside the room. They waited quietly outside instead.
Even the Pokémon in the backyard seemed to sense the excitement. After eating and drinking their fill, most of them returned to the mountains, but a few of Evan's own Pokémon stayed behind. Hearing the voices of the children, they joined in the quiet vigil, waiting for their soon-to-be companion.
Inside the room, the glow from the Pokémon egg grew brighter and brighter. Then came a clicking sound.
The shell of the egg began to crack.
Moments later, the egg split open entirely, revealing an orange, lizard-like Pokémon.
Evan's eyes lit up as he gazed at the little Charmander now standing before him.
This Pokémon egg, Professor Ethan had said, was fished out of the water.
Evan couldn't help but feel a little concerned about whether this little guy might have any issues.
After carefully observing the newborn Charmander for a while, Evan frowned.
Its eyes were different from others. Normally, Charmanders had grey-blue eyes, but this Charmander's eyes gleamed with a brilliant gold. There was something majestic about its gaze.
**A shiny?**
Not quite.
Shiny Pokémon typically had distinct skin colors compared to their standard counterparts, but this Charmander's skin was identical to that of a regular Charmander. The only noticeable difference was its golden eyes.
Evan's gaze shifted to the Charmander's tail. A Charmander's tail flame burns from birth, with the strength of the flame reflecting its health.
Looking at this one, the flame on its tail burned vibrantly, indicating it was in excellent health.
**'Char~~!'**
The Charmander locked its golden eyes on Evan, looking thrilled, and started calling out excitedly.
Hearing its enthusiastic cry, Evan reached out and gently picked it up.
"Welcome to the world, little one," he said warmly. "Let's go for a checkup first."
Evan felt it was important to ensure everything was okay. It didn't quite look like a shiny Pokémon, but there was something unusual about it, and he wanted to rule out any health issues. If there were any problems, they needed to be addressed promptly.
Charmander tilted its head in confusion at Evan's words. It didn't fully understand what he was saying but instinctively felt it should trust him and stay calm.
Carrying the little Charmander in his arms, Evan stepped out of the room.
The moment the children outside saw him with the Pokémon, their eyes lit up.
"It's Charmander!"
"Wow~!"
"How cool!"
"It's really Charmander!"
**'Pika!!'**
The excited cry of Pikachu echoed from somewhere nearby, adding to the lively atmosphere.
Pikachu, Ralts, and Pidgeot were equally excited, eagerly watching the little Charmander. Evan smiled at their enthusiasm but gently waved his hand.
"Alright," he said. "You guys go back and take a bath first. Come over and play again tomorrow. I need to take this little one for a checkup now."
Hearing his words, the children around groaned in disappointment but nodded obediently. They said their goodbyes and returned to the orphanage. On her way out, Luna reminded Evan that the Moomoo Milk was warming in the kitchen, ready for him to fetch when needed.
---
After the children left, Evan wasted no time. Holding Charmander securely, he went straight to the genetic scanner for an examination. Pikachu and Pidgeot followed close behind, curiosity written all over their faces. They were eager to see what Evan would do next.
Activating the machine, Evan gently placed Charmander on the scanner. "Stand still for me," he said with a calm voice.
Charmander blinked up at him, tilting its head before standing obediently on the platform. Evan then began operating the computer. After a few moments, the results appeared on the screen, along with a detailed file of the Charmander's physical data.
---
**Pokémon:** Charmander
**Strength:** Beginner (not suitable for training)
**Gender:** Female
**Attribute:** Fire
**Ability:** Blaze, Solar Power
**Gene Sequence:** Mutation. The genes show signs of alteration. Further in-depth analysis is required for more details.
---
Evan frowned slightly as he read through the results. Everything about Charmander seemed normal and even excellent—except for one thing. The gene sequence showed signs of mutation.
**"Was it caused by being in the water?"** he muttered to himself. It made sense now why the professor had mentioned it being fished out of the water.
After a moment of thought, Evan called out, "Alright, that's enough. Come down, little one."
Charmander perked up at his voice, hopping off the scanner and hurrying over to him. Despite being newly hatched, it already displayed a strong attachment to Evan, running to him eagerly whenever he waved.
Pikachu and the other Pokémon followed as well, gathering around Evan.
He picked up Charmander and said with a smile, "Let's feed you first, little one. Then we can all get some rest."
Looking at Pidgeot, Evan added, "Pidgeot, find a place to sleep. There are plenty of empty rooms. If you'd prefer, feel free to sleep outside."
At this, Pidgeot let out a small huff of protest. **Outside? Really?** It ruffled its feathers, clearly unimpressed by the suggestion, but didn't argue.
With Charmander in his arms and his other Pokémon trailing behind, Evan headed toward the kitchen, ready to fetch the warm Moomoo Milk.
