Pokemon: Bounty Hunter

Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Lavender Town

Lavender Town is located in the northeastern corner of the Kanto region, just below the White Cape.

It is a well-known Pokémon cemetery, and all funeral and mourning ceremonies are held in the Pokémon Tower located in the town.

The Pokémon Tower is a seven-story mausoleum where deceased Pokémon rest in peace. The tower contains hundreds of Pokémon graves, and many people come here every day to pay their respects.

As a result, the atmosphere of the entire town feels unusually solemn.

There are very few permanent residents in Lavender Town just over thirty people. Among them, more than a dozen are Trainers who voluntarily live here to guard the Pokémon Tower.

It's said that the Kanto League recently proposed plans to convert the Pokémon Tower into a radio tower to broadcast various music and programs including the Poké Flute Channel to the two districts of the Kanto region through radio receivers and Pokégear devices.

However, public support for this plan has been overwhelmingly negative, and most people cannot accept the proposal.

After having dinner with his three Pokémon, Silas read a book for a while. He sighed. Forget it, he really couldn't focus anymore better to call it an early night.

Turning off the lights, the Trainer and his three companions drifted into quiet slumber.

Silas nestled against Pidgeot's belly. It made a surprisingly comfortable pillow.

The next morning, at dawn—

Dew dripped from the roadside grass. Although the sky was a bit misty, there were already quite a few figures moving about in Lavender Town.

With three minimized Poké Balls clipped to his belt, Silas departed from the Pokémon Center in the northwest, heading toward the Pokémon Tower in the eastern part of town.

On his way through the town center, he passed by the Pokémon House, and like the others walking by, he casually dropped 10,000 Pokédollars into the donation box at the entrance.

The Pokémon House, also known as the Volunteer House, was named by an old man called Mr. Fuji. He founded it as a shelter for abandoned Pokémon or those who had lost their families.

The donation box outside wasn't placed there by Mr. Fuji himself, but by Nurse Joy of the town.

After all, raising even one Pokémon was manageable, but as their numbers grew, even Mr. Fuji's personal finances couldn't keep up.

People who came here to mourn often contributed what they could.

Of course, most people didn't donate much it was a matter of doing what they could afford.

The money in the donation box would be collected regularly by Nurse Joy and exchanged for Pokémon food and supplies, which were then delivered to Mr. Fuji.

If there were people in the Pokémon world who were absolutely trustworthy, they were undoubtedly Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny.

Continuing on, Silas reached the entrance of the Pokémon Tower.

He showed his Trainer ID to the staff at the door for registration and was soon allowed inside.

Navigating the tower with practiced ease, he quickly arrived at a gravestone on the first floor. Looking at the photo of the Pokémon on the tombstone, Silas fell silent for a moment. As usual, he cleaned up around the grave and placed several Poké Puffs on the ground.

He stood quietly for half an hour. He didn't speak a word just turned and left.

All around him were people just like him.

As he exited the Pokémon Tower, Silas looked back at the seven-story structure. The upper levels were still inhabited by Cubone and some Ghost-type Pokémon.

They were, in a way, also the guardians of this tower.

According to his memories from his previous life, in the future, Team Rocket would come here to poach Cubone and sell their precious skulls. This would lead to the ghost of a mother Marowak wandering the tower, disturbing its peace.

That was one of the main reasons why Silas harbored such deep wariness and disgust toward Team Rocket in this life.

Perhaps Giovanni really did have a certain charisma, and some members of Team Rocket might genuinely believe they were fighting for an ideal cause but that didn't change the organization's fundamentally dark nature.

Many of their actions were simply unacceptable.

If he ever had the chance and enough strength, Silas would do everything in his power to prevent those events from happening.

Only after hastening his steps beyond the edge of town did Silas finally breathe a sigh of relief.

The atmosphere of Lavender Town was just too affecting—it had a profound emotional pull on anyone who came to mourn.

Staying in that kind of mood for too long… he wasn't sure he could bear it himself.

Fortunately, he only came here once a year.

"Well then… see you next year," he murmured in his heart.

Route 8, also known as the Battleground Road, was a place where many Trainers gathered.

They often battled each other here—and of course, wagers were common.

Originally, Route 8 was just an ordinary road. No one knew when it started, but over time it gradually became a commonly accepted battling area.

Perhaps because of its proximity to Kanto's most prosperous city—Celadon City—the Pokémon League took various factors into account and established a Pokémon Center and rest area nearby, along with dedicated battle arenas.

Areas like this aren't rare across different regions.

Silas had left Lavender Town and followed the main road straight here.

"Come on! Land the finishing blow!"

"Dodge it!"

"Give it everything you've got!"

"Show them your fighting spirit!"

These were meaningless shouts from spectators on the sidelines.

In the arena, the trainers and their Pokémon were fully focused, carefully responding to each other's moves.

The heated atmosphere all around quickly shook Silas out of the somber mood he was still carrying from Lavender Town.

Smack smack.

Silas lightly slapped his cheeks, trying to pump himself up.

Last year, when his Pidgeot was still just a Pidgeotto, he had come here after paying tribute to his Rattata at Lavender Town. Even then, he had been drawn in by the intense battling atmosphere of this place.

But back then, he had mostly been a bystander.

This year, he came here with the intention of getting in some serious battles.

He casually picked one of the arenas. Seeing that the previous match had just ended, Silas quickly walked up to the challenger's position.

There weren't many rules for these battles: 1v1, with an unspoken understanding of the format. Unless stated otherwise, the standard stake was 5,000 Pokédollars per match—the loser pays and steps down.

The winner could stay on indefinitely unless they chose to leave, effectively becoming the reigning champ.

There were no official referees just mutual nods of agreement before both sides sent out their Pokémon.

"Go, Boldore!"

"Your turn, Gloom!"

Seeing the type advantage, the opposing trainer cracked a smile.

Looks like this fresh face is going to lose his very first match. The surrounding onlookers quickly came to a simple conclusion.

Grass-type versus Rock-type unless there's a massive gap in strength, the Rock-type rarely stands a chance.

The young challenger's face was unfamiliar, while the reigning trainer was clearly a seasoned battler. From all appearances, the rookie didn't stand a chance.

This is going to be another boring match at least, that's how it seemed.

Silas remained calm. A Grass-type, huh? That's going to be a bit tricky.

"Gravity! Sand Tomb!"

Still his signature combo.

Boldore's speed in setting up the field surprised the spectators it was an impressively smooth execution of the technique.

They were all trainers themselves it wasn't like they couldn't recognize skill when they saw it.

The reigning opponent let out a whistle. Not bad at all. Too bad Boldore doesn't have a nose otherwise Gloom's power would be even more overwhelming thanks to its stench.

Thinking this, he gave his command: "Gloom, use Bullet Seed!"

PS: Regarding the previous chapter's mention of Deoxys—this is based on the in-game mechanic where interacting with meteorites changes Deoxys' form. One of these meteorites is located on Route 3 in the Kanto region, near Mt. Moon and Pewter City. Additionally, Diglett's Cave connects Pewter City with Vermilion City—so that's roughly the connection.

The first unidentified Pokémon is Bastiodon, which resembles a triceratops, as described in the Pokédex.

The second unidentified Pokémon is Tapu Koko, the guardian deity of Melemele Island in the Alola region. It's extremely curious, interested in both people and Pokémon, loves to play, and although it seems hot-tempered, it quickly forgets why it was angry.
