Chapter 318: 318. Vigoroth Joins
"Very good, looks like we have our standout." Ash smiled and threw out one of his Poké Ball, "Stand by for battle, Duskull! Slakoth, let's have a battle to see what you really got!"
After coming out of LaRousse City, Ash exchanged for his Duskull again. After all, this was his very first Ghost-type Pokémon, and there was no one could that he pair it with it for some more of his training in the backyard of Professor Oak's Laboratory.
What's interesting to Ash is that the Ghost-type and the Normal-type are very different and yet very similar to each other.
Ghost-type skills cannot effect a Normal-type Pokémon, and Normal-type skills are also invalid against a Ghost-type Pokémon.
"Will-O-Wisp!"
Eight bluish purple Will-O-Wisps began to float around Duskull's ghosty body. As the training progresses, the number of Will-O-Wisps it can control were also increasing at a noticeable rate.
This only made sense as Ash could tell that his Duskull was about to evolve into a Dusclops.
Duskull doesn't learn many moves at this stage other than his natural Ghost-type skills, but even so, Ash has a way to fight against Normal-type Pokémon's.
This Slakoth got burned as it wasn't able to dodge with its natural slow speed.
However, at this time, the lazy Slakoth made its sudden move.
A black light on his body flashed, and his figure came right next to Ash's Duskull in a flash. The claws with the black aura hit Duskull hard in its core area.
This was clearly the Dark-type skill, Feint Attack!
Unexpectedly, this Slakoth had learned such a skill. This really did impressed Ash, as he never thought it could move like this.
However, due to its Truant Ability, the time for it to take action has passed and now it has to wait again. Next, it was Ash's turn to attack, "Dark Pulse!"
Who doesn't know a Dark-type skill anymore?
Ash Duskull was Ash's first Ghost-type Pokémon, of course Ash had to pay extra close attention to it and often gives a training methods a try. This is not only to help Duskull and his future evolution grow stronger, but also because this could help him train any of his possible future Ghost-type Pokémon's.
Duskull's red eyes were glowing with an evil intensity, and he swept towards the now more lazy Slakoth with the evil energy in its spectral hand.
Slakoth, who was currently being being lazy because of Truant Ability, was hit and pushed away without any issues, but his eyes suddenly opened at this moment with a dazzling amount of intensity, and then his whole body released the dazzling white light of evolution!
"It's evolving!" Max was the first to exclaim in his childlike excitement.
Thinking of this Slakoths evolved form, a Vigoroth, Brock immediately understood where Ash was going and the true motive of Ash when he began the battle with Slakoth, "I understand it now! This is the moment Ash has been waiting for!"
"Brock, why do you say that?" May still didn't understand the point behind this battle, well other than thinking Ash was just helping train this Slakoth for the future battle.
"The evolved form of a Slakoth is Vigoroth, which you know considering how many of them Mr. Norman trains."
May heard Brock say that and also began to understand what Ash was planning to do. She knows the Slakoth line very well, considering that she practically grew up with them. This of course meant that she knew what their Abilities were and how they were used.
"Ohh… so that's what Big Bro has been trying to do. No wonder he's the best!" Max also understood what Brock and May was getting at and couldn't help but marvel at Ash's ability to think like this.
However, Marcel was still in the dark and needed Brock to explain it to him.
"You see, Vigoroth has an Ability called Vital Spirit. By stimulating energy, it will not be able to fall under the sleep status condition!" Brock then continued to explain, "This is the best way for these guys here to be able to deal with Snorlax's Yawn skill." Brock said with a very wise tone.
"Ohh… yeah, why didn't I think of this move?" Marcel's eyes also lit up. He clenched his fists. He was so excited about this.
Now that Slakoth had evolved, everything could change. This scene really touched him in places where even Diddy couldn't touch him.
He always knew deep down that this Slakoth was very different from the other of his species. He spent too much time with them to be able to not see these kinds of things.
This one specifically has very sharp eyes and a much more strong body.
Now that he has evolved, he had become even more courageous, like all those that evolved before him.
This violent albino ape Pokémon stands upright, it was actually 1.6 meters tall, which was even taller than Norman's very well trained one.
It is all white, with a bunch of red hair on its head standing very high, with some thick aura coming off of him.
At this moment, Ash's Duskull was also beginning to emit a even more intense light, and its figure was also growing crazily, much different from the one Slakoth released when he was evolving into a Vigoroth.
Ash's new Dusclops was releasing some very oppressive and ominous aura. It is definitely without a doubt much larger than the previous Dusclops belonging to the Masked Coordinator/Timmy that they met a while back in Vardenturf Town, with a height reaching 2 meters, and the red single eye shining with a bright scarlet light, it definitely looked extremely scary.
The Pokédex introduces that this Pokémon has nothing solid inside of its body, just like a black hole that only absorbs things inside and never letting anything out. It is also said that only the ones one who they deem worthy can know it's deepest of knowledge.
Most people in the Hoenn Region don't know this yet, but Dusclops has a higher level of evolution, and it is called Dusknoir.
It's said that the antenna on top of its head can captures the radio waves from the world of spirits that command it to take people there. It also stores lost souls in its mouth-like belly and takes them to the spiritual world to set them free there.
In short, Ash was full of expectations for this Dusclops and his future Dusknoir.
"Come back, Dusclops."
Ash took his Dusclops back inside of his Poké Ball to get used to his new body and looked at Vigoroth who had completed his own evolution, "Follow me…"
In the larger open part of the banana garden, Snorlax had woken up again and was happily eating a bunch of bananas straight from the trees. It has a very strong digestive ability and does not even need to peel the bananas, so it just throws a whole bunch of bananas into its big mouth and gulps it down in an instant.
"Snorlax, you know you shouldn't be bullying those weaker than you!" Said Ash, someone who always bullied the weak in Pokémon battles whenever he had the chance (specially when he doesn't like them), while looking at the Snorlax in front of him and smiled.
Ash saw a little bit of his own Snorlax inside of this one, as it took a lot of effort to tame it. Later, its character also caused a lot of trouble for his past self.
But now, it was one of his most trusted and strongest Pokémon's.
"Snor! Lax!"
Snorlax's huge body stood up, and used its Yawn skill towards Vigoroth again, releasing sleepy bubbles one after another. If it was any Slakoth like all of its previous opponents have been, other than that one crazy human, they would definitely not be able to avoid it because of their inability to move that fast.
But Vigoroth here didn't even need to avoid this at all. It destroyed all these bubbles with a single wave of its claws, and then came towards Snorlax.
Ash has always mostly relied on his Snorlax's huge HP and super high special defense to put pressure on his opponents while also attacking them from both close and far range to chip away at their opponent, though most times, a single attack was more than enough to do the job.
However, now Ash had to face Snorlax himself with a Pokémon that wasn't his… yet.
'But could this really stump me?' Ash thought with a grin.
[Notice! The answer is a big NO!] Ciel said happily, while also managing to sound cold.
(How does that work?)
"After evolving into a Vigoroth, fighting definitely becomes much more easier, even more so than when it evolves into the more powerful Slaking." Ash smiled.
He then turned his attention towards the battel again, "Slash!"
Vigoroth's figure flashed, and he struck Snorlax on the head with his strong claw, and Snorlax's heavy body was just about to fall down.
However, this Snorlax was powerful enough wher it was able to stop abruptly and fire a destructive Hyper Beam at Vigoroth.
"Avoid that attack!" Ash didn't believe for a moment that Vigoroth's muck quicker speed could not avoid this move, especially as it was only a decently charged one and not the faster one.
"Prepare to use a powerful Focus Punch!" Facing a Pokémon that was much slower than itself, Ash l immediately decided to use the Fighting-type powerful move that was normally easy to interrupt for a fast Pokémon, which, unfortunately, this Snorlax was not.
This also pairs badly for Snorlax as it was a Normal-type Pokémon, and Normal-type Pokémon's were weak to Fighting-type attacks.
Vigoroth once again ignored Snorlax's Yawn attack and punched Snorlax hard on the head, knocking it out of combat capability.
"Now!" At Ash's loud reminder, Marcel quickly threw out an unused Poké Ball of his own and subdued the defeated Snorlax.
Now, the crisis inside of the Banana Slakoth Garfen has finally been resolved!
Marcel decided to take in this Snorlax on for a very special reason, he realized that he could use Snorlax's Yawn skill to open up a new deep sleep room for the visitors.
It was actually very common for Pokémon Centers and regular hospitals to have Pokémon that can use Yawn because the quality of sleep from Yawn is very good.
And it was proven multiple times by researchers and doctors alike.
It just also happened to be very consistent with the theme of the Slakoth Banana Garden. After the large part was grandiosely reopened within the next two days, this sleeping place suddenly became one of the main selling points of this whole area. People even came to experience deep sleep in an endless stream from as far as Littleroot Town.
In order to thank Ash and his team, Marcel even made the VIP25 five-layer luxurious banana cake just for them. Not only that, but every item that they have ever sold here.
"Then, I guess this is where we say our goodbye." After eating the food and everything here, Ash and his group were ready to continue on their way in high spirits and high sugar.
Unexpectedly, the Vigoroth they had helped suddenly jumped in front of him, waving its long arms and jumping up and down, looking particularly excited.
Marcel quickly followed him, "Ash, please bring this Vigoroth with you. He had originally evolved under your guidance. Just think of this as a way for me to repay you for the Snorlax energy cube formula you gave me and also because you helped me catch that Snorlax."
"Wow, great, Big Bro is going also going to catch a Vigoroth!" Max was the first to cheer, he liked Vigoroth and it's evolutionary line very much.
Ash looked at Marcel and Vigoroth and then nodded, "Then it's decided! Vigoroth, it's a pleasure for me to work with you again!"
