Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 123: Chapter 123: Combat Point Refund

If the system could return Combat Points by reducing Energy Control Ratings, it would provide Lian with an additional source of income for Combat Points.

However, it's unclear how many Combat Points would be returned for reducing 1% of an Energy Control Rating; further experimentation is needed to determine this.

For now, the dark-type Energy Control Rating holds little value to Lian. Even if he evolves into Charizard, there aren't many dark-type moves available to learn, and most of them are physical attack moves with very few Special Attack options, with Crunch being the best among them.

Thus, the dark-type Energy Control Rating is essentially dispensable, and decreasing it wouldn't result in any significant loss.

Lian opened the control panel for dark-type Energy Control Rating, extending his claw towards the minus sign and gently tapping it once. The original 2% Control Rating dropped, changing to 1%.

His gaze shifted to the total Combat Points display. Initially at 10,161 points, it now showed 10,361 points. This indicated that reducing the Control Rating by 1% returned 200 Combat Points, approximately equivalent to reclaiming eighty percent of the Combat Points spent on increasing the rating.

Although significantly less than what was initially consumed, Lian was still thrilled. This meant he had an alternative way to earn Combat Points, no longer relying solely on the daily combat ratings.

Reducing 1% of the Control Rating yielded two hundred Combat Points. Although it may seem small, every bit counts.

Lian decisively lowered the dark-type Energy Control Rating to 0%. Since he didn't use any dark-type moves anyway, his total Combat Points increased to 10,561 points.

He then looked at the normal-type Energy Control Rating, currently at 3%, feeling a slight urge but quickly suppressed it. He still relied on Smokescreen for defense, and reducing the Control Rating could potentially affect its effectiveness, which wouldn't be ideal.

Moreover, Smokescreen had numerous applications, and Lian had several ideas involving this move. In the future, he might need to increase the Energy Control Rating again for experimentation purposes.

Many normal-type moves were highly practical and worth learning eventually. Moves like Protect, Hyper Beam, and Substitute could all be useful down the line.

"I must learn more moves from other attributes!" Lian clenched his fists.

For the sake of accumulating Combat Points, Lian resolved to master as many moves from different attributes as possible. This would allow him to gain various energy control ratings, enabling him to obtain Combat Points by decreasing these ratings.

Lian checked his moves list; the dark-type Bite move did not disappear, indicating that the Control Rating does not impact the moves themselves. Therefore, Lian felt reassured with minimal concerns about potential side effects.

He began frantically recalling various moves that Charmeleon and Charizard could learn across different attributes. Normally, Lian would not be able to grasp additional attribute-based moves on his own; however, after evolution, he could potentially learn flying-type moves. But since flying is his primary type, reducing his Flying Energy Control Rating was counterproductive.

It was clear that Fire, Dragon, and Flying would be the three essential attributes for Lian's future control mastery. Additionally, there was the Normal-type. For all other attribute energies, their Control Ratings could be converted into Combat Points.

However, at present, Lian didn't have any readily available moves of other attributes to learn. Self-comprehension wouldn't suffice, so he had to rely on Move Disks.

Lian planned to search Kalia's travel bag tomorrow, hoping to find more Move Disks with potential moves he could master. Even if they weren't particularly useful, what mattered most was converting them into Combat Points.

"I should practice Bite regularly from now on," Lian thought. Being able to learn Bite indicated his ability to utilize dark energy, which meant there was a chance to increase its Control Rating. With higher Control Ratings, he could convert them into Combat Points. By continuously practicing Bite, increasing his Control Rating, and then converting it into Combat Points, he could create an endless cycle.

Lian felt this method could potentially work, but increasing Control Rating was not easy and would require considerable time. Moreover, the gains were modest; 1% equaled only 200 Combat Points, suggesting that it might take a week of practice to raise the Control Rating by just 1%.

First, let's enhance Rock Resistance.

Lian turned his attention to Rock Resistance. Improving energy control was a long-term endeavor, so he decided to take it slow. For now, prioritizing Rock Resistance seemed more urgent. Once raised to '1,' he would be immune to Rock-type moves until evolving into Charizard.

1.8...1.75...1.7...

Combat Points rapidly depleted as Rock Resistance steadily increased, stopping at '1' since further enhancement was no longer possible.

It consumed a total of 8,000 Combat Points, leaving Lian with 2,561 points remaining.

"Finally, I've maxed out my Rock Resistance. Now, apart from Ground-type moves, I'm invulnerable to any other attacks."

Currently, only Ground-type moves could deal double damage to Lian. However, he had no plans to increase Earth Resistance because, after evolution, he would become a flying-type Pokémon, rendering him immune to Ground-type moves.

Unless he lost his mind and voluntarily descended to the ground or got trapped there by a move, Ground-type attacks would be unable to reach him.

Once Lian evolves into Charizard, only Rock- and Electric-type weaknesses will remain. At that point, he plans to acquire a fruit that enhances Electric-type resistance and use Combat Points to boost both resistances. With these improvements, he'll become a flawless Charizard with no vulnerabilities.

With over two thousand Combat Points remaining, Lian decides to utilize them all, as there's no immediate need to save for now. He is approximately ten levels away from evolving into a Charizard, which conservatively estimates at least one month. During this time, he expects to accumulate tens of thousands more Combat Points, making it ample opportunity to build up reserves later.

Upon evolution, Lian will experience a significant increase in ability values. His goal is to maximize the Special Attack ability value to its limit of +60 before then.

Currently, Lian intends to enhance his Fire-type Energy Control Rating, as several move concepts require higher mastery to execute effectively.

As anticipated, after reaching 20% Control Rating, each percentage point costs 1,000 Combat Points. Undeterred, Lian proceeds without hesitation to upgrade his Fire-type Energy Control Rating.

After a brief moment, Lian's Combat Points dropped from 2561 to 561, while his Fire-type Energy Control Rating increased to 22%. However, he didn't immediately perceive any change in control.

"The five-fold amplification must be related to the system's enhancement of my Control Rating," Lian speculated. "It seems that 100% represents the maximum possible Control Rating."

At 20%, he had already felt an astonishing level of mastery over fire, akin to controlling flames like a deity. This likely indicated reaching the highest possible Control Rating for Fire-type energy.

Based on this calculation, within the system space, Lian's Dragon-type Energy Control Rating should only be at 50%, and even lower for Normal-type at just 15%. No wonder he often experienced a lack of fluidity when using Smokescreen, whereas Will-O-Wisp felt remarkably smooth.

He decided to save the remaining Combat Points, as spending them would likely yield no more than a 1% increase in Dragon-type Energy Control Rating. Since Lian planned to primarily enhance his Fire-type mastery for now, it made sense not to invest further.

"Time to continue practicing Fire Punch."

Lian resumed training with Fire Punch. By mastering multiple Fire-type moves, he hoped to potentially improve his Control Rating—even by just 1% would be significant, saving him 1000 Combat Points.
