Chapter 93: The Dance of Volbeat and Illumise!
As Misty dragged May forward in a panic, her heart raced with the lingering echo of the eerie laughter that had spooked her moments ago. Behind them, Gengar emerged from the shadows, its mischievous grin wide with satisfaction. It had executed Ash's plan perfectly and couldn't wait to see the results.
"Faster, May! That creepy laughter is getting closer—we need to reach the light!" Misty cried out, clutching May's arm tightly as they dashed toward the glowing illumination ahead.
The so-called "light" wasn't what Misty thought—it was the gentle radiance emitted by a cluster of Volbeat and Illumise, dancing gracefully around the grand cedar tree that Ash had prepared earlier.
Finally reaching the glow, Misty allowed herself a moment of relief. But as her breathing steadied, her gaze swept over the surrounding Pokémon, and her body tensed once more.
Every bug-type Pokémon nearby had paused to observe the two girls. Their curious gazes sent a shiver down Misty's spine.
"May... l-let's leave. I-I don't think we should stay here," Misty stammered, gripping May's hand to pull her away.
Just then, that unsettling laughter echoed again, faint at first but growing louder. Misty froze in place, her fear intensifying.
At that very moment, Pidgeot, waiting atop the cedar tree, shook the remaining silver powder from its wings. The glimmering dust scattered over the area, drawing the attention of all the bug-type Pokémon away from the girls and toward the tree's peak.
Volbeat and Illumise, captivated by the powder's allure, began using their Flash move, bathing the area in dazzling light. The cedar tree transformed into a radiant beacon, as if daylight had suddenly pierced the night.
Energized by the silver powder, the Pokémon grew playful. Volbeat and Illumise started performing their mesmerizing dances, weaving through the air like stars in a celestial ballet.
"Look, Misty! It's Volbeat's courtship dance and Illumise's graceful display!" May exclaimed, her voice brimming with excitement.
Misty's fear faltered as her eyes locked onto the enchanting performance. Around them, other bug-type Pokémon joined the celebration. Kricketot strummed their antennas to produce a melodious rhythm, creating an orchestral backdrop for the ethereal dances. The harmony of glowing lights and delicate music under the moonlight was breathtaking.
At that moment, Ash emerged from the shadows.
"There you two are!" he called out, a playful grin on his face.
"Sorry for leaving you earlier. I spotted Team Rocket sneaking around and realized they'd stolen your Poké Balls while I was away. Don't worry, though—I got them back." Ash handed the Poké Balls to Misty and May, who sighed in relief.
"Every Pokémon has its unique charm, Misty," Ash began as he watched the display with a serene smile. "This—right here—is the beauty of bug-types. I used to be afraid of them too, but when I learned to appreciate their grace and wonder, that fear disappeared. Now, I admire them."
"Pika!" Pikachu added enthusiastically, nodding in agreement.
"Wait… you were scared of bug-types?" Misty asked in disbelief.
Ash nodded. "Yep, just like you. But you know what? Tonight, you've already taken the most important step. You're standing here, surrounded by them, without fainting or running away. That's progress!"
Misty glanced around at the bug Pokémon. Although she still felt uneasy, the fear wasn't as overwhelming as before. She realized that, in her darkest moment, it was the light of the Volbeat and Illumise that had calmed her.
For the first time, she felt a glimmer of gratitude toward these creatures she once feared.
As realization dawned, Misty's eyes softened. She turned to Ash, her heart swelling with emotion. She understood now—this was all part of his plan to help her.
"Thank you, Ash," Misty thought silently. Her resolve grew stronger. "I'll overcome this fear… for you and for myself."
As the night deepened, Charizard and Pidgeot returned from their scouting mission. They reported signs of a skirmish near the poachers' location.
Ash recalled his Pokémon, letting them rest. The trio settled in to watch the sunrise, savoring a peaceful breakfast as they prepared for the challenges ahead.
When the first rays of dawn broke the horizon, Ash stood, determination gleaming in his eyes.
"Let's go. Charizard and Pidgeot found the poachers' trail last night. I think—"
A deafening explosion interrupted him, echoing across the forest.
"Not good! They might've already found Tyranitar! Let's move!"
"Pika!" Pikachu cried, leaping onto Ash's shoulder as the three raced toward the source of the blast.
Unbeknownst to them, the poachers had clashed with Team Rocket in a chaotic showdown. What began as a quiet heist escalated into a full-blown battle when Team Rocket's greed led them to attempt stealing the poachers' Ultimate Robot.
As a result, Jessie, James, and Meowth, along with their backup—Butch and Cassidy—ended up captured in specialized Pokémon-proof nets.
The poachers' leader, Gurr, sneered at his captives. "You fools can stay there until we've caught Tyranitar and Pupitar. Then, we'll deal with you."
But just as Gurr was about to issue further orders, his subordinate burst in.
"Boss! We've located Tyranitar!"
With a wicked grin, Gurr climbed into his robot. "Let's catch it and make our fortune!"
Their first strike, a missile, landed squarely on Tyranitar. But before they could launch another, a commanding voice cut through the chaos.
"Stop right there!"
Ash and his friends arrived just in time.
"Pikachu, use Thunderbolt to disable that robot!"
"Charizard, use Flamethrower!"
"Pika pika!"
"Roaaar!"
The stage was set for an epic showdown between Ash's team, the poachers, and a desperate Team Rocket.
