Chapter 52 Practical Performance_3
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A continuous series of loud noises echoed in the tunnel, but it wasn't the sound of Winston firing his gun; it was the sound of trucks crashing recklessly.
Two trucks charged into the tunnel one after the other, braking side-by-side, their massive bodies completely blocking the passage. Several containers were smashed, obstructing the already scarce sunlight.
Winston grinned; he had been waiting for this moment.
"Rockets! Aim at the trucks and send them all to the sky."
Though Tom and Roy died rather casually, at least they completed their mission.
Loaded with a full truck of arms, as long as the trucks explode, none of these guys will survive.
Twelve thousand, that's a lot of money.
But what does that matter to Winston; it's not his goods anyway.
He could earn thousands transporting this batch, but if he kills these corporate dogs, Winston believes he'll make even more.
If the Chaotic Blade Association wants to blame, blame these corporate dogs who appeared out of nowhere.
The truck doors opened.
Wildman and three other players wearing heavy exoskeleton suits jumped down first, charging forward with heavy shields raised.
Wildman not only charged at the front line but also acted as the team's commander.
"We pull the damage; you guys suppress with firepower, suppress!"
"Big Boom!"
Before he could finish speaking, Jianxue and his group followed Natural Curl and jumped off the truck, each with a rocket launcher in hand.
Without saying a word, not even aiming, they pulled the trigger toward the Night Wanderer.
Meanwhile, Winston's Night Wanderer had just retrieved one and hadn't even aimed yet.
"Damn!"
Winston cursed, immediately squeezing through other Night Wanderers to hide back into the previous passage.
This damn firepower almost matches a regular army, right?
Seven or eight rockets exploded among the Night Wanderers, the power multiple times more than the explosive bolts Brother Ni had fired earlier, directly blowing them off their feet.
A sweep cleaned out the first wave of Night Wanderers.
It was then that Lin Miao slowly walked down from the rear compartment.
He glanced down at his watch.
1:42 p.m.
"According to the previous deployment, teams of five to six people, leave no one behind."
Teams of six consisted of a heavy armored tank, a light armored assault soldier, a firepower soldier with a rocket launcher and ammo carrier, plus one or two support personnel.
Additionally, each team was equipped with a Bumblebee drone, responsible for transmitting real-time footage of exoskeleton combat to the Sixth Street Gang people at the back.
Besides combat, it was also a performance.
"GO! GO! GO!"
The poorly equipped warriors in heavy exoskeletons were as happy as anything, leading Natural Curl, Brother Dao, and others toward the depths of the tunnel.
Even Brother Ni, who was injured earlier, immediately joined after the Adcardo doctor patched up his face.
This aggressive attitude left the doctor utterly baffled.
Pandora was sent by Lin Miao to support Lucy; he wasn't too worried that Lucy would lose.
At least the Hacker couldn't kill Lucy, plus Adcardo's Carol and Qiwei were helping.
Moreover, the employee contract security clauses gave him the confidence to act decisively.
Only Mantou refused to kill on the battlefield, so Lin Miao assigned her the task of transporting battery and ammo supplies and acting as a battlefield technician.
...
On the wilderness
Six investigators and Reyes sat in a truck compartment, facing a dozen large screens, some hacked tunnel surveillance by Lucy, and others showing combat footage from the Bumblebee drones.
"What astonishing mobility."
William's pupils narrowed as he watched the players on the screen.
He was once a part of the new United States Special Forces during the Unified War and later joined the Sixth Street Gang.
Admittedly, the people on the screen couldn't be considered well-trained, definitely lacking CBQ-type training, and many tactical moves were virtually non-existent.
They relied entirely on instinct for the urban warfare.
Logically, even wearing exoskeletons, they wouldn't have extraordinary advantages in urban war meat grinders.
Maybe a grenade or rocket could finish them off.
But these people's instincts were too sharp, like a hunting wolf pack.
In the shadows of the team's side, a Night Wanderer suddenly burst out holding a shotgun, aimed at Wildman's side waist—no protection there; a shot would leave him dead or crippled.
But Brother Ni acted as if he could foresee it, his rifle firing almost simultaneously as the Night Wanderer appeared with the gun.
The Night Wanderer didn't even get to scream, his forehead hit by three shots, leaving his face unrecognizable.
Meanwhile, Wildman didn't even turn his head, completely trusting his teammates with his back.
In some narrow terrains, the Night Wanderers blocked the junction and fired madly trying to suppress, even if support and firepower soldiers behind found it hard to slip ahead to shoot, heavy tanks could raise shields and charge under fire, pinning enemies against the wall, crushing them alive like human pancakes, or use the exposed side gun ports on the shield to turn obstacles into debris.
While teammates were within touching distance.
This almost beastly instinct and unconditional trust was scarier than the exoskeleton.
Because Williams knew only survivors from many fierce battles, those who escaped death multiple times, possessed this dangerous perception.
To people like these, even if from hundreds of meters you aimed a gun at them, they'd feel the sting of intent to kill.
Williams set aside previous disdain and seriously asked Reyes
"What is their company called?"
"Uh..."
Reyes wanted to say their company isn't registered yet, he just helped with the paperwork.
After thinking for a while, he remembered the name Lin Miao told him
"Horizon, I think that's the name."
"Horizon..." Another investigator pondered.
"Isn't that a term associated with black holes in physics? Why would a company use that as a name?"
"Who knows what he means!"
Reyes shrugged; he was sure Lin Miao wasn't a physics researcher but didn't know why the name was chosen either.
Meanwhile, William Burn's attention had returned to the screen.
If just this, he didn't believe these people could smash through Stone Ridge Mountain Tunnel, knowing there were plenty of Night Wanderers inside, including experts and heavy firepower.
