Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 1009: Good News

Ronarkatast was casually laying upon the comfortable bedding he had arranged for himself, currently taking the form of a massive being as various figures that appeared minuscule next to him moved about in his palace, some of them climbing atop of him to tend to his scales, something that was completely useless as he just needed to use his draconic breath on himself to take care of that, but being the dragonlord, it was only natural to have others take care of him.

"Mmh… Solast, Solast, Solast… What is the matter today, my dear Solast? Are you once again here to speak to me about the Undead Empire? I still feel that your worries are exaggerated, we are already predicting a future conflict with them and preparing in accordance, there is truly nothing more that can be done!" the All-Draco spoke, his voice reaching all across the palace, any louder than that and the countless attendants would all be brought to their knees if not outright slain by his booming speech.

"My Lord, I will admit that my worries concerning the Undead Empire might appear exaggerated… But today, I merely wanted to inform you of something that I sensed!" all three of Solast's heads spoke in unison before Ronarkatast, the dragonlord merely emitting a low sound.

"I have sensed a couple of things coming from the Empire, what is it that you felt?" the great dragon might act like Solast was a bother, but actually, it wasn't too bad to have some visit everyday, especially from him in particular as Solast was not afraid of pushing against what he said unlike most others, so conversing with the sun dragon was rather entertaining.

"My Lord, I have felt a strong brightness, it was like a sun was born! A sun of twisted, abnormal light!"

"Is that so? I think I see what you are talking about… But Solast, I fear that you are misrepresenting it, to you and your sun breath, it might seem unnatural, but it is but a sun of a different nature like there are plenty… Furthermore, I wouldn't recommend saying that too much, you mustn't have realised it, but that sun, it carried the distinct mark of Nitok's wife… Huh, what was her name again?" the dragonlord raised one paw and scratched his chin, the sound produced by that simple action made the walls shake.

"Maiele Liameilos?"

"Ah yes, that's what she was called! The Skeleton King seems rather fond of that elven girl, so don't go slandering anything about her, can you imagine if it reached his bony ears?"

"That elf must have reached something, maybe I should invite the royal undead couple over to check it out for myself, what do you think?"

"My Lord, I think that keeping the amount of interactions with the Empire to a minimum is best… Even if they offer plenty of novel types of dragons to grow our population, it is unwise to extend to much trust to them, they are a warmongering empire that is ceaselessly attempting to expand"

"Even if we, of Dragonnerie, can move away from them, it is inevitable that eventually, their border will reach ours"

Solast remained steadfast at all times.

"Bah… I hear you like always, Solast! Why don't we change the subject for once? Undead this, undead that… It's no life to talk about dead people all the time- Why don't you tell your lord about how things are going with Ariespes? I heard that she has laid eggs that were not plagued due to her necromantic breath, how many dragonlings should we be expecting?" Ronarkatast slightly leaned forward, nearly causing hundreds of attendants to fall off from him, thankfully, they were used to it and were prepared, avoiding falling straight to the ground.

"Well…" Solast's three heads stared at one another, a bizarre act as they all shared the same mind, but since he could have three lines of thoughts at the same time, he was certainly merely having an internal debate.

The sun dragon was not exactly fond of discussing his private life, but he understood that Ronarkatast was genuinely curious.

Dragons possessed their own, innate way of power, which was their dragon breath, it was simultaneously physical and non-physical, typically, one's breath would align with the particular species of dragon they belonged to, so it ended up being mostly elemental stuff.

Some could awaken special breaths that had nothing to do with their lineage, and typically, that would also cause them to have their appearance and behaviour influenced by the breath, this had led to a whole menagerie of mismatched dragons inhabiting Dragonnerie.

Ronarkatast was always on the lookout for new, never-seen-before dragon breaths.

Before, it had seemed like Ariespes's necromantic breath has caused her to only be able to produce foul, rotten eggs, leading her to never even seek a companion to fertilise said eggs as it would be useless.

But Solast must have had quite the effect on her, leading to a batch of perfectly viable eggs from the union of them both.

The dragonlord had seen plenty of dragons aligned with death or close concepts never be able to produce good eggs, or only eggs carrying dragons sharing the same breath as themselves and by producing them with a dragon that also suited the element to begin with.

And even then, that had been rare throughout his long lifetime.

So to see Solast, a sun dragon, manage to fertilise a batch of eggs was unprecedented, who knew what sort of dragon would emerge as a result? Would it just be like usual, or would a rare event take place?

The All-Draco was hoping for either a dragonling with dual breaths, or one with a new breath combining those of their two parents, it would be glorious to see.

"Ariespes laid five eggs… And it seems like they are all well on their way to hatch without issue, oh, and also, one of them is bigger than the other, we think that there might be twins-"

"Twins?! Ohohoh, that's great news! Do you have any idea how rare that is?"

Ronarkatast laughed, and all of the attendants covered their ears and laid flat on the ground like an earthquake was coming, which wasn't wrong, as the dragonlord did cause his palace to shake powerfully.

"Send my regards to Ariespes, twins are exceptional, but five eggs is actually a lot too, most only lay one or two- How would have thought that the necromantic dragon would be so fertile, heh? Or is it you who is fertile? Are you perhaps thrice as potent as others, since you have three heads?"

"I… I don't know?"

"In any case, you should stop worrying about the undeads if you have hatchlings coming up, stay with your beauty"

"Understood, My Lord"
