Overlord: Welcome the Birth of the King

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Comprehensive Level 2 Passive: Slash Damage

[Learning 'Quick Slash' requires consuming 3 skill points.]

Buzz—

[Mid-tier profession 'Sword Saint' successfully acquired!]

Lyle stared at the information displayed on his status panel, a trace of surprise and understanding flashing across his face. "So, even in a world different from a game, I can find 'employment.'"

But!

Lyle lowered his head, his gaze flickering.

Acquiring a profession directly without the option to decline?

Currently, there are two primary conditions for obtaining combat professions:

1. Interacting with relevant weapons or equipment:

Advantages: Basic professions are easy to acquire.

Disadvantages: Mid-tier and advanced professions are relatively more difficult.

2. Learning skills by consuming skill points:

Advantages: Greater flexibility. With a target and skill points, you can acquire a profession by learning related skills from opponents.

Disadvantages: Once you learn a skill, the profession is automatically acquired without the option to refuse. This requires careful consideration.

Lyle carefully weighed the pros and cons of these two methods. Compared to the second option, which offers flexibility for "genius" types of basic professions, the first method seemed less advantageous.

He glanced back at his status panel.

After acquiring the "Sword Saint" profession, his overall level rose to 2Lv, and he gained an additional 3 skill points.

"With this leveling speed, it's no wonder some players in games aim straight for level 100 professions."

Lyle let out a soft sigh.

Just acquiring different professions could enhance his level—a revelation that sparked a thought in his usually cautious mind.

"The rule of gaining 3 skill points per level hasn't changed."

"Logically, I could theoretically gain up to 300 skill points. If I die and lose a level, then level up again, could I repeatedly gain skill points?"

This wild idea flashed through Lyle's mind.

In YGGDRASIL, this was impossible, but in this otherworld, Lyle wasn't sure if bugs or exploits might exist.

Shaking his head, he suppressed the thought. It wasn't something to explore at this moment.

Before the information on the panel faded, Lyle quickly spent two skill points to learn "Instant Reflex" and "Fourfold Slash."

He decided to save the remaining skill point for emergencies.

Now, his status panel had undergone some significant changes.

"Only HP, Physical Attack, and Agility increase? It seems different professions have varying stat growth trends, and mid-tier professions only provide a 10-point stat bonus. Basic professions are likely even lower."

"Thankfully, the 'Genius' profession spared me the need for a basic profession."

"But a mid-tier profession providing a passive skill?" Lyle focused on the "Slash Damage" passive skill.

A maximum increase of 10% Slash Damage!

"How should I put it... It's decent, I guess."

Lyle contemplated briefly. "The most surprising aspect is still the skills. The difference between this world's combat techniques and game-style profession skills is striking."

The Quick Slash skill had clear damage values and cooldown times.

However, Instant Reflex and Fourfold Slash lacked these details, offering only a basic description.

"No wonder high-level warriors in YGGDRASIL emphasized martial techniques over game-style skills."

Lyle mused quietly.

In the game YGGDRASIL, warrior skills and the magic system had distinct differences.

Magic users could cast most spells without cooldowns, relying solely on mana consumption, giving rise to the saying: "MP is the true lifeline of mages."

Of course, advanced magic and skills came with cooldowns or requirements.

Warrior skills, on the other hand, didn't consume mana but had cooldowns or specific limitations, with some unique skills even requiring MP.

In this otherworld, martial techniques consumed "focus." However, Lyle's status panel didn't display a "focus" attribute, leaving this as something he needed to study further.

Suddenly, the sound of people rising filled the air.

Lyle noticed everyone around him standing abruptly, startling him.

Turning his gaze, he saw several nearby individuals casting surprised looks in his direction.

"Ahem."

Lyle cleared his throat and stood up along with the crowd, maintaining a composed expression.

While he didn't understand the situation, mimicking the others' actions seemed like a safe move.

The sudden motion caused Lyle to momentarily lose balance, stumbling forward. Reflexively, he grabbed the shoulder of the person in front of him to steady himself.

The man in front—a middle-aged, burly individual with brown hair and a rugged appearance—turned sharply, his fierce demeanor suggesting he wasn't pleased.

"Kid, what's your problem?" he growled, clenching his fist.

"My apologies. I was a bit careless," Lyle replied calmly, retracting his hand with a hint of apology.

The man snorted, glaring daggers at Lyle before seemingly deciding to remember his face for later trouble.

Lyle frowned slightly.

Given his current circumstances, he preferred to avoid unnecessary conflicts and attract as little attention as possible.

The earlier imbalance was likely due to his newfound strength, which left him momentarily unadjusted. But that feeling passed quickly.

As the nobles and royals vacated their elevated seating, the atmosphere grew lively once more, with discussions about the combat results between the two champions. Many spectators expressed admiration, as both warriors were invited to the royal palace, regardless of the outcome.

Amid the commotion, Lyle discreetly slipped away, avoiding any further interaction with the hostile man.

The man, noticing Lyle's absence, cursed loudly, "Damn it! You better hope I don't catch you!"
