Chapter 124: Shikotsumyaku and Dark Release

Genichi's shadow clone moved quickly, passing through one defensive line after another until it reached Konoha's fourth line, which was now the front line.

"Lord Genichi!" The Konoha ninja who were resting immediately stood up and greeted the silently appearing figure. This alerted the others.

"Lord Genichi!"

"Genichi, what are you doing here?"

"Is that a shadow clone?"

Genichi took off his mask and smiled as he greeted the squad stationed there. Among them were ninja from commoner backgrounds, as well as members of the Kurama, Gekkō, and Akimichi clans, but no one he knew particularly well.

After a few pleasantries, everyone went back to their duties, awaiting the Mist's attack.

Time ticked by. Suddenly, a sharp whistle echoed through the forest. It was a warning from the Konoha ninja on lookout further ahead.

"The Mist-nin are here!" someone shouted.

Everyone became vigilant, and the forest instantly fell silent. Soon, the sound of movement cut through the air as the lookout ninja fell back. Genichi put his mask back on and activated the Art of Pyo. Since he was a shadow clone, he only used this one to conserve chakra.

After another short wait, the figures of the Mist-nin appeared, weaving through the forest and coming into view.

Genichi formed hand seals, neither too fast nor too slow. After calculating the distance, he took a deep breath, his chest puffing out. With an exhale, he unleashed a barrage of vacuum bullets, sweeping them toward the charging Mist-nin.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Tree branches were snapped off, and large craters were blasted into thick tree trunks. The Mist-nin's forward momentum stalled. They scattered, dodging the attack.

Boom!

An Akimichi clan ninja, using the Expansion Jutsu, swatted a Mist-nin who was dodging the vacuum spheres into the ground. A Gekkō clan ninja launched a surprise attack, severely wounding a Mist-nin with the Dance of the Crescent Moon.

Genichi's attack was, in reality, a form of support. After finishing the Vacuum Sphere jutsu, he seamlessly clapped his hands together, spat out a high-pressure water blade mixed with sand, pierced through a massive tree that would take several people to encircle, and impaled the Mist-nin hiding behind it.

Immediately after, Genichi flickered away from his spot. A kunai with a burning explosive tag attached landed on the branch where he had just been standing.

BOOM!

A fiery explosion lit up the sky.

Genichi, having already teleported away, was met in mid-air by two sword-wielding Mist-nin.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

A flurry of blows, a shower of sparks. The moment he landed, the Sharingan in his right eye opened. One of the Mist-nin opposite him froze. "The Sharingan… you're Kinoshita Genichi!"

The other Mist-nin cried out in alarm, grabbing his comrade and leaping backward.

But Genichi was as fast as a phantom. He closed the distance, his twin swords dancing. With a spray of blood and a piercing scream, the bodies of the two Mist-nin crashed to the ground.

Thump!

Pushing off a branch, Genichi charged forward without pause, moving through the forest like a ghost. His ninja swords, enhanced with wind chakra, glowed with a pale white light, reaping the lives of one Mist-nin after another.

His superior speed, astonishing reflexes, unstoppable wind-enhanced blades, combined with the Sharingan's dynamic vision and signless genjutsu—this combination made ordinary Mist-nin like chickens before him. Even a Special Jōnin couldn't last more than three moves before being cut down. Only a Mist Jōnin was qualified to block his path, and it required two of them, otherwise they risked falling for a genjutsu and being killed instantly.

"It's Kinoshita Genichi!"

"Surround and kill him first!"

"Damn it, he's too fast!"

"Use long-range area-of-effect attacks!"

Shouts from the Mist-nin rose and fell throughout the forest as more and more of them converged on his position. Genichi, however, didn't get bogged down in a direct confrontation. He used his speed to dart around, avoiding encirclement while continuously harvesting the lives of the Mist's forces.

And so, many Konoha ninja witnessed the sight of Genichi rampaging across the battlefield with a pack of Mist-nin chasing after him. The Mist tried to surround and intercept him, but they didn't have enough people, and he broke through their lines time and time again.

However, even Genichi had his limits. When the Mist had gathered enough powerhouses and numbers, he was finally surrounded.

"Hah… hah…"

"Gulp."

"Damn bastard, we have to kill him!"

Some were breathing heavily, beads of sweat rolling down their faces, their eyes locked on Genichi, knuckles white from gripping their weapons too tightly. Others unconsciously swallowed, their nerves stretched taut, unable to suppress the fear in their hearts. Still others cursed through gritted teeth, cold sweat pouring down their backs.

Whether it was the deterrent power of his name or the terrifying strength he had just displayed, many of the Mist-nin were afraid. If it weren't for their numbers, they probably would have given in to the instinct to flee.

"Kill him!"

With a roar, the Mist-nin charged.

Genichi sheathed his swords and formed the Art of Zen with his hands.

Water Release: Water Formation Wall!

He spat out a stream of water that swirled around him, quickly forming a large, inverted bell that protected him even from above. The charging Mist-nin were all repelled. But immediately after, they began to throw kunai with explosive tags.

BOOM!

Fire and steam erupted into the sky. When the steam cleared, the Water Formation Wall was not broken; in fact, it had grown thicker. But the Mist's attack didn't stop. Four water dragons were formed and dived down, crashing into Genichi's unique bell-shaped wall.

Just then, Genichi spread his arms, plunged his hands into the rotating wall of water, and infused it with wind chakra.

Water Release + Wind Release = Storm Water Vortex!

RUMBLE!

At that moment, the rotating water wall rapidly transformed, pointed at the top and wide at the bottom, and began to expand outward dramatically. The next moment, the four water dragons struck. The vortex's rotation slowed, but it didn't stop or collapse. Instead, the four water dragons disintegrated, and the falling water was immediately caught up in the vortex, causing it to expand at an even more explosive rate.

"Get back!" a Mist Jōnin yelled.

The Mist-nin immediately leaped back to retreat, but the rapidly expanding vortex swallowed those who were a step too slow. Amidst piercing screams, the ninja caught in the vortex were torn to pieces by the swirling currents, their blood turning the water red.

Then, the vortex collapsed. The water poured out in all directions, turning the area into a bloody swamp. Genichi, a blur of afterimages, slid across the water's surface at high speed, following the outflowing water to attack the Mist-nin.

Shlick! Shlick! Shlick!

Blood sprayed, limbs flew, and a cacophony of screams and curses filled the air. In just six seconds, Genichi had broken through the encirclement. He then turned and charged back in.

After carving his way through them three times, a furious roar rang out. "Get out of the way! Let me handle him!"

BOOM!

A figure descended from the sky, and the water's surface exploded. Genichi narrowly avoided the swift attack.

"The Kaguya clan's Shikotsumyaku," Genichi said, looking at the man opposite him. A bone blade had grown from the palm of each of his hands.

"That's right!" Kaguya Ki grinned ferociously. "Kinoshita Genichi, your Sharingan is mine for the taking!"

As he spoke, he charged toward Genichi at extreme speed.

Genichi was slightly surprised. So fast! If he didn't have the Art of Pyo active, his speed probably wouldn't match this Kaguya's. He immediately drew his swords to meet the attack.

Twin swords against twin bone blades. They clashed violently. The bone blades showed no fear of Genichi's wind-enhanced swords. After just a few exchanges, Genichi realized that this guy's close-combat ability was extremely strong, stronger than his. And he was somehow able to fight without looking at his eyes.

"All of you, attack!" the other Mist-nin shouted, and several more joined the fight. Genichi, who had held the upper hand with his speed and Sharingan, was now at a disadvantage.

I'll kill one first…

The tomoe in his Sharingan spun. A Mist-nin froze, his throat immediately slit by a blade. Genichi spun, ignoring the bone blade about to pierce his own body, and sliced his sword horizontally toward Kaguya Ki's neck.

Bone spurs grew from Ki's chest in an attempt to block the sword, but they couldn't grow fast enough. The next moment, flesh was cut, but the blade got stuck in Ki's neck.

"My neck is very hard!" Ki laughed savagely as he plunged his bone blade into Genichi's body.

Poof!

Genichi's body exploded into a cloud of smoke.

Kaguya Ki froze. The other Mist-nin were also stunned. A shadow clone? It was just a clone!

"Bastard!" Kaguya Ki cursed, then ferociously charged toward the Konoha ninja.

"Shikotsumyaku, Ice Release, Dark Release… Kirigakure really has a lot of talented people," the real Genichi mused as the clone's memories flowed back to him.

He had encountered Ice Release long ago, but different users displayed different levels of power. The one his clone had just faced was stronger than the last. This was also his first time encountering the Shikotsumyaku. Of course, he knew about it. The Kaguya clan was similar to the Uchiha; not everyone could awaken the Kekkei Genkai. And even among those who did, not everyone could reach Kimimaro's level. In fact, right now, probably no one in the Kaguya clan could.

Most of them just had strong bodies, durable bones, and superb taijutsu. Of those who awakened the Shikotsumyaku, most could only produce bone spurs and blades from their hands and feet to fight. A few could grow bone spurs from their chest and back. An even smaller number could temporarily turn their cartilage into hard bone to increase its durability, like the Kaguya Ki his clone had just faced.

And the Dark Release was also a first for him. It was a rare Kekkei Genkai that could absorb chakra and ninjutsu. Although this Mist-nin named Chūkichi didn't seem as strong as the Hiruko he remembered, his Dark Release was still very powerful, having absorbed both the clone's Water and Wind Release jutsu.

"I wonder which two nature transformations combine to form Dark Release?" Genichi was curious and eager to make Chūkichi his next "cadaver for study." And that Shikotsumyaku user too.

And so, Genichi performed the Shadow Clone Technique again, sending three more clones to the battlefield.

On the other side, Yagura, who had moved his command post to the Land of Fire, received a report from the front line: Kinoshita Genichi had appeared on the battlefield.

Without any hesitation, Yagura immediately led a team toward the front. But before he could get there, another report arrived. The Kinoshita Genichis appearing on the battlefield were all shadow clones.

"Lord Yagura, should we still go?" the Anbu guarding him asked.

"Go!" Yagura continued to press forward.
