Overdrafting the Future, Starting in Naruto

Chapter 112: Sensory Kekkei Genkai

In the wilderness.

Kinoshita Genichi appeared with the Eight-Tails' horn. Looking at the horn inside the glass tank, he reactivated the chakra circulation of his Eight Trigrams Seal, then raised a hand and fired a Water Gun, piercing the container.

Boom!

The glass tank shattered, and the preservation fluid spilled everywhere as the giant ox horn toppled over.

Genichi flickered, landing on the horn. He clasped his hands together, and the entire horn immediately began to distort, shrinking into his body. Within three seconds, it was completely sealed inside the Eight Trigrams Seal in his abdomen.

The moment it entered the seal, Genichi saw the two horns naturally merge into one. However, he didn't feel any increase in the horn's chakra. There was no change at all.

Genichi fell into deep thought. "The two horns are the same horn, just existing in different states? Or different timelines? I obtained the Eight-Tails' horn in the future and brought it to the present through my ability. For the future, it was brought back to the past, and now… the timelines have merged?"

"What if I had never gone to get this horn, and someone else had used it? No, that's just a hypothesis. In reality, I was always going to acquire it at some point in the present…"

"Then what about myself? Bringing back my own power from the future… No, I'm different from the horn. The horn didn't change, but I am constantly changing, or rather, improving. The future is also constantly in flux."

"So, if I were to take Shisui's eyes in the future, would that mean I would also acquire them at some point in my present?" Genichi scratched his head. It was a bit brain-burning.

Forget it. I'm done thinking about it. Genichi quickly gave up on delving deeper into the nature of his ability. Such a power was beyond his current comprehension. As long as he could use it to improve himself, that was enough. You don't have to know how wine is made to enjoy drinking it.

Swoosh!

Genichi vanished.

Hokage's Tower.

Genichi once again had an audience with Hiruzen Sarutobi, reporting that he had acquired the Eight-Tails' chakra and the Wood Style research data. It was bound to be exposed sooner or later. Although telling him now had an air of acting first and reporting later, being upfront about it was enough to demonstrate "loyalty."

That guy Orochimaru… Hiruzen secretly gritted his teeth, but his expression remained grave. "Genichi, can you control the power of the Eight-Tails?"

This meant the village now had a small-scale jinchuriki. If he were to rampage, given the strength Genichi had displayed, would they have to send Uzumaki Kushina, the Nine-Tails' jinchuriki, after him?

"I can control it completely," Genichi said confidently. "The power of a single horn is nothing much. Moreover, the Eight Trigrams Seal, based on the Four Symbols Seal, is much more secure. For now, I'm just using it as a chakra supplement. I generally won't unseal it to use the Eight-Tails' full power."

Hiruzen inwardly sighed with relief. He nodded, believing Genichi's words, then asked, "The Wood Style data, are you planning to give it to Tsunade?"

"Yes, Lord Hokage," Genichi replied. "The greatest value of the First Hokage's cells isn't actually the Wood Style, but the powerful life force, or Yang Release power, contained within. This should be the foundation of the Wood Style's strength. Without this powerful Yang Release, the Wood Style would be as mediocre as any other Kekkei Genkai."

Hiruzen's eye twitched almost imperceptibly. Mediocre… Since when could other Kekkei Genkai be described as mediocre?

"Go find Tsunade," Hiruzen instructed. "But do not rashly conduct any cell transplantation experiments."

Genichi naturally nodded.

After leaving the Hokage's tower, Genichi went to the Konoha Hospital. After finding Tsunade, he pulled her into her office and handed her a scroll.

Tsunade took the scroll with a puzzled look. After opening it, her expression changed instantly, and she looked up, staring at Genichi.

"It was a trade with Orochimaru," Genichi explained.

Tsunade frowned. "A trade? What did you trade for it? That guy Orochimaru isn't so easy to deal with."

"A piece of information," Genichi smiled. "But that's not important. What's important is this data."

"Are you thinking of transplanting Grandpa's cells?" Tsunade asked coldly.

Genichi shook his head. "No. I'm interested in the First Hokage's Yang Release, and the Wood Style itself. Transplanting cells is a shortcut, but it's too dangerous. Analyzing the chakra itself, although the chance of developing Wood Style is also low, is at least completely safe. The most important thing is the First Hokage's powerful Yang Release."

Tsunade's brow relaxed. She thought for a moment and said, "It's worth a try."

With that, she turned, took a glass tube from a drawer, and tossed it to Genichi.

Genichi caught it and saw that it was filled with a green liquid. His eyes lit up. "The nutritional supplement? As expected of you, Lady Tsunade!"

Tsunade raised her chin slightly. "A factory is already being built for mass production," she said coolly. "But we'll have to wait until next year at least. For now, the lab can only produce a maximum of fifty units a month."

"That's already very good," Genichi smiled. "Does the Third Hokage know?"

Tsunade nodded. "I've already told the old man. Without the village's support, it would be difficult to set up a factory."

Genichi nodded. This was different from military rations pills; it was a strategic resource, so it certainly had to be controlled by the village.

"After injection, the supplement generally begins to take effect in three seconds," Tsunade explained. "It takes about five minutes to fully restore chakra. It can restore half your stamina in three minutes."

Genichi wasn't disappointed. "That's already excellent. Restoring stamina in such a short time is enough to change a lot of things."

After discussing this, their attention shifted back to the research data on the First Hokage's cells. They huddled together, reading the materials and constantly exchanging opinions and discussing ideas. It got to the point that Uzumaki Ina had to bring them both lunch and dinner.

At the same time, back at home, Genichi's shadow clone was studying the Divine Mind, Heavenly Sense Jutsu. This technique was a Yin Release sensory ninjutsu. To Genichi's surprise, its principles were remarkably similar to his own self-developed Heavenly Water, Boundless technique.

Heavenly Water, Boundless was a Water Release nature transformation that used the moisture in the air—or his own chakra converted into moisture—for sensing. It wasn't pure chakra sensing, but should be classified as a physical sensing method, similar to Gaara's sand-sensing.

The Divine Mind, Heavenly Sense Jutsu, on the other hand, was a pure chakra-sensing ninjutsu. The user's own perception could be rapidly spread through various mediums, covering an extremely wide range with high precision. For example, using the earth as a medium to extend one's senses was the optimal method. This was the origin of Tobirama and Minato's cool-looking sensing poses. Of course, one could also sense without the earth—air was also possible, but it was a less stable medium.

"Mastering this jutsu, combined with Heavenly Water, Boundless, and then developing a Wind Release sensory jutsu… my perception will be much more three-dimensional, which will also be beneficial for using the Flying Thunder God Technique."

"But three different sensory ninjutsu…" A thought suddenly popped into Genichi's head. "What if I could integrate all three? A Kekkei Tōta-level sensory ability? That would be… very difficult, wouldn't it?"

Genichi then smiled. "I'll let my real body worry about that headache. I'm just responsible for mastering the Divine Mind, Heavenly Sense."

While Genichi was engrossed in training and research, the ninja world was becoming increasingly chaotic.

Sunagakure was fighting a two-front war against Kirigakure and Kumogakure, with Iwagakure watching hungrily from the sidelines, eager to jump in. Konoha wasn't idle either, with large numbers of intelligence personnel deployed around the battlefields and within the Lands of Earth, Lightning, and Rain.

By the time October arrived, Sunagakure had finally pushed the Cloud-nin out of the Land of Wind, and the battlefield shifted to the Land of Rain. The already chaotic Land of Rain became even more tumultuous. Although only the Sand and Cloud were fighting, both Konoha and Iwa had a large ninja presence there. Combined with the numerous ninja organizations native to the Land of Rain, it was a chaotic free-for-all.

In the midst of this situation, the Akatsuki was busy running around, spreading their philosophy of peace and even trying to mediate the war between Sunagakure and Kumogakure. Gradually, the Akatsuki's fame grew, reaching even the ears of Hanzō, the leader of Amegakure.

Root had a presence in the Land of Rain, but Genichi, as a member of the Hokage's direct Anbu, didn't go there. Instead, he made two trips to the Land of Earth, either to gather or relay intelligence.

Time flew by, and soon it was December. Konoha Year 46 was coming to an end.

The Great Ninja War was raging, yet Genichi received a mission unrelated to the war.

"The Cloud-nin Troi, who was sent to Hōzuki Castle, has escaped?" At the Anbu base, Genichi was rather surprised after hearing the mission details from Sarutobi Shinnosuke.

Shinnosuke nodded wearily. "This is a mission request from Hōzuki Castle. All we know right now is that Troi headed south into the Land of Grass. It's highly likely he's trying to enter the Land of Rain."

"Understood," Genichi nodded. "I'll lead my team out immediately."

He wouldn't be going with Shinnosuke on this mission. A single target like Troi didn't require that many people. Five minutes later, Genichi's team left Konoha, heading straight for the Land of Rain.

The team moved quickly. The intel said Troi had already entered the Land of Grass, but that was yesterday's information. Considering the Grass-nin would be trying to intercept him, Troi would be slowed down. But if they wasted too much time, Troi could enter the Land of Rain and rendezvous with the main Kumo army. That would be troublesome.

Therefore, by dusk, Genichi's team of four had reached the border of the Land of Fire. After resting for only two hours, they entered the Land of Rain under the cover of darkness, following the border towards the Land of Grass.

Midnight.

In the northern border region of the Land of Rain, the mountains rose and fell like giant beasts. Inside a cave, Akimichi Tōdō was on watch while Sarutobi Mikage and Gekkō Ryūfū rested by the campfire.

Outside the cave, under a gentle, steady rain, Genichi placed two fingers of his right hand on the ground, his perception spreading out rapidly. The Divine Mind, Heavenly Sense technique was indeed very useful, its sensing highly stable. Unfortunately, he didn't detect anyone else's chakra on either side of the border.

He withdrew his fingers and stood up, casting his Heavenly Water, Boundless technique. Compared to the other jutsu, this one could detect a person even if they weren't using chakra. That was the advantage of physical sensing. And in a humid environment like this, its effectiveness was even greater. Genichi could even use it to perceive a person's physical silhouette if he concentrated. It would consume more chakra and require greater focus, but it was worth a try now.

Closing his eyes, Genichi began to attempt a precise scan.
