Chapter 111: Izanagi and the Divine Mind, Heavenly Sense
"Genichi-kun, you've studied souls as well?" Orochimaru looked at Genichi, suddenly feeling a strong urge to open up the boy's head and see what was inside.
Genichi shook his head. "Not really. My thoughts just stemmed from the jutsu Izanagi itself. Spiritual energy is related to the soul. Senpai, you know that there's a forbidden jutsu in the village called the Spirit Transformation Technique, right? That jutsu can turn spiritual energy into a spirit form."
Orochimaru nodded. He knew it all too well. Kato Dan, Tsunade's first love. Oh, and also the uncle of Genichi's little girlfriend. That made sense.
"Is it possible for Izanagi to damage the soul?" Orochimaru looked at the scroll. If that were the case, he would have to re-evaluate the technique.
"There is a possibility, though it's relatively small," Genichi said.
In reality, he was almost certain it didn't damage the soul. After all, that guy Danzō had used it far too many times. And so had Obito Uchiha and Madara Uchiha. Madara, in particular, had regained his sight after awakening the Rinnegan. Genichi only brought this up intentionally to sound more profound.
After chatting for a little longer, Genichi left the Root base with copies of the two scrolls. He would go back for the Eight-Tails' horn and the Wood Style data tomorrow. Today's trade had been a good one. He had also reached a tacit understanding with Orochimaru, allowing them to exchange information in the future.
As for the information about the relationship between Hashirama's cells and the Sharingan, Genichi knew that with Orochimaru's abilities, he would have discovered it soon enough. He already knew this from the original timeline, where Orochimaru had created an arm full of Sharingan for Danzō. Besides, this piece of intel was also laying the groundwork for the future. Orochimaru had plenty of good things to offer.
Back home, Genichi eagerly began to study the two jutsu he had just acquired.
First was the Transcription Seal. Both Madara and Itachi Uchiha had used this sealing jutsu. The former had sealed Izanagi ahead of time, successfully deceiving both Hashirama and Tobirama Senju. Itachi had sealed Amaterasu in Sasuke Uchiha's eye. Moreover, the Transcription Seal could be set with specific trigger conditions and timings.
Since it could seal dōjutsu, could it also seal other ninjutsu and genjutsu? No. It was fundamentally based on the Sharingan and could only seal the Sharingan's dōjutsu. Of course, this included the various genjutsu cast with the Sharingan.
"However, if the jutsu isn't powerful, sealing it is of little use," Genichi noted as he carefully studied the Transcription Seal. He was already proficient in sealing arts, so this jutsu wasn't difficult for him to grasp.
"So the key to setting the trigger is the caster's spiritual consciousness embedded within the chakra." After studying it, realization dawned on Genichi, and his eyes lit up. "Limiting it to only dōjutsu is too restrictive. I need to modify this sealing jutsu."
"But that's not urgent. I can research it with Tsunade and the others. More people means more brainpower. If we can develop it, then I can seal the Flying Thunder God Technique on Shizune, Ina, and even my parents. It would trigger when they're in danger, instantly teleporting them away. Then I could establish a safe base..."
Genichi's thoughts raced excitedly. He then turned his attention to the forbidden jutsu, Izanagi. If his Yang Release was strong enough, and he had enough chakra, could he use this jutsu without going blind? Genichi wasn't sure, but it was worth researching.
However, that would require many Sharingan to test. Wipe out the Uchiha clan? Although Genichi was self-serving with a flexible bottom line, he couldn't possibly hunt or annihilate the Uchiha now. It wasn't just because of his deceased comrade, Uchiha Namiichi. The Uchiha clan wasn't planning a rebellion at this time.
Fortunately, he had his 'cheat.' He couldn't hunt the Uchiha now, but he could do so in the future. "I'm just too kind," Genichi sighed, then delved into studying Izanagi.
Without realizing it, it was already nine o'clock at night. Genichi finished his research and went out, heading to the Konoha Hospital. He happened to run into Tsunade and Ina on their way out. Genichi first walked Tsunade home with Ina, and then the two of them strolled home together.
"Genichi, when can I go on missions with you?" Ina asked expectantly, then quickly added, "I've already mastered the Adamantine Sealing Chains!"
Genichi thought for a moment. "Once you've mastered the Delicate Healing Extraction Technique, the Chakra Scalpel, and a sensory ninjutsu, I'll recommend you to the Anbu to go on missions with me."
"A sensory ninjutsu?" Ina was puzzled. "Is it Heavenly Water, Boundless?" She had already had her chakra nature tested. Besides Yin and Yang, she had Water and Earth affinities.
Genichi smiled. "It's not my jutsu. You'll find out tomorrow."
The next day, after Genichi woke up, he first created a shadow clone to handle his training regimen while his real body took Ina out for basic training, like physical conditioning and taijutsu sparring. Ina also needed to improve her close-combat abilities.
At nine in the morning, Ina went to the Konoha Hospital, while Genichi went to the Hokage's tower to request permission to train in a sensory ninjutsu.
Hiruzen was puzzled. "Genichi, I recall you developed your own sensory ninjutsu?"
Genichi nodded. "Yes, Lord Hokage. But my water-based sensing is very limited in places like the Land of Wind. So I wish to broaden my skills by learning from other sensory jutsu. Also, Ina has a talent for sensing and is suitable for this training."
Hiruzen nodded and decisively agreed. "Go ahead and choose one from the Scroll of Seals yourself."
"Thank you, Lord Hokage!" Genichi went happily to make his selection. However, he already had a target in mind: the sensory ninjutsu used by Tobirama Senju and Minato Namikaze.
Soon, he found the jutsu in the scroll's index.
Divine Mind, Heavenly Sense Jutsu!
A-rank!
Seeing the name, Genichi paused. Could this be related to the Uzumaki clan's Mind's Eye of the Kagura? He looked, but there was no mention of who developed it. It didn't matter.
He chose it, copied it, and left with the ninjutsu scroll.
After leaving the Hokage's tower, he sent a shadow clone home with the scroll, while his real body went to Orochimaru's experimental lab. Before entering, he completely sealed the power in his abdomen to prevent it from resonating and being detected by Orochimaru.
Entering the lab, Genichi saw the Eight-Tails' horn again. It didn't seem to have changed at all. So what was the 'future overdraft' my ability performed? The thought flashed through his mind for only a moment before he pushed it away.
"Genichi-kun, do you plan to research the Eight-Tails' chakra, or are you going to seal it within yourself?" Orochimaru asked with a smile.
Genichi chuckled. "Senpai, I want both!"
"Becoming a jinchuriki is very dangerous," Orochimaru reminded him. "Although this is just one of the Eight-Tails' horns, Tailed Beast chakra is unique and extremely corrosive."
"Don't worry, Senpai. I'm skilled in sealing arts as well," Genichi said confidently.
Orochimaru nodded and said no more. He took out a scroll and gave it to Genichi. "This is the data regarding the First Hokage's cells."
"Thank you, Senpai," Genichi said politely, then pointed to the large tank. "I'll be taking this, then."
"It's part of our trade. Be my guest," Orochimaru said generously.
Genichi leaped onto the glass tank. In the next instant, both he and the tank vanished from the lab.
"The Flying Thunder God Technique," Orochimaru sighed with a hint of envy. It was a shame he could never master that jutsu.
