Chapter 15: The World Within(3)
'This is not it,' Sorken solemnly thought. He had gained almost nothing from the other strange blobs if anything at all. He could only interact with the ones that contained memories of kids and they had no information that could be considered useful for him. His own experience in that strange consciousness was still what he learned most about this world. But, that only helped him to understand this world… was not his own and the stage of development was somewhere at the start of the industrial age.
'This is frustrating' his own consciousness wobbled at his increasing frustration. He finally had a way to get the clues but he was way too weak to actually use it in any meaningful way.
Still, he kept expanding his senses to find something that could be worthwhile. 'Let's observe this world a bit more, if nothing this is an experience that my life can be equated with'
In his past life, especially during his childhood sorken had a lot of thoughts on how he wanted his life to end and what value he would attach to it. He had considered everything from running in front of a car to jumping from a bridge, or perhaps ODing himself? What better way to go than to bless, right?
But right now, he could finally say that this is what he would exchange his life for.
He forced his senses to expand as he continued to comprehend this world? Or the world was it? The more he remained there, the more it felt like an organism than a world. Everything had an order and yet it was chaos all around. Things just work themselves to perfection as one could say in this place.
'If every blob is a consciousness and it corresponds to age, experience or anything related to human chronology at all. Then, these humongous blobs?'
There were blobs of all sizes but a select few, a few between thousands were of size that could encompass all others around it. He would have never understood the extent of their size if not for this strange state where everything was in front of him while nothing was at the same time.
'Hah, maybe they are what I think' a strange sense of foreboding and dread seeped into him for he could draw another conjuncture now. 'The strange people in that place…. They were not like us. They were different from us in every conceivable way. This is probably how their consciousness would look like. They are monsters who have lived for so long that i cannot possibly understand their level of experience and if anything about them'
'A normal person once past a certain age becomes so different… What about these people who live that long??'
' I am thinking from my perspective! But if I knew my lifespan was probably in thousands of years, the way I would live and experience everything would definitely differ, like how humans love differently from ants.'
'But, one thing is definitely true, the shorter the lifespan, the harder the battle for survival and the higher the greed for resources. The more you live, you can adapt and bide your time
'From what I have seen in that strange place and the way they were selecting people among us… maybe they were fundamentally changing us into beings that could live longer. Thus, there are two types of people here, ones who always knew they were going to love for so long and those who got an opportunity for it…. The latter is definitely more dangerous. The sudden shift in how they would view the world will be something that cannot be easily predicted… but, it can be easily controlled. So, will she also change?'
The sudden thought of what if his conjectures were right and tamara will also change. 'This feeling is strange'
He didn't want it to be true but he was way too aware about how sudden change can completely transform a person. Well, that was on Earth where it was mostly the sudden change of fortune. 'Here, the stake was much larger, the extent shouldn't even be compared'
'I hope she at least remembers what we shared and if nothing, she owes me everything including my heart that I gave to her completely'
Unlike others, he didn't want to cling to a false hope about her not changing at all. That would be too optimistic and foolish.
