Chapter 14: A Strange New World(2)

The ideation of what happened in that world still lingered as a gentle tug in his mind, the mellifluous universal subconscious no longer seemed as daunting as it did earlier. Sorken again tried to adjust with his ethereal body as he realized the imbroglio that needed to be solved yet. He now understood the essence of this world but again, the question of why he was sent here and how he could go back seemed distant.

The world around him kept changing and his new senses that he was still trying to make sense of gave him a delirious feeling as he tried to move forward. Now he knew that most of the apparitions in the world were subconscious of the people who lived in this world. He was curious. He wanted to know about this world and this by far was the best chance he had come across. The palpitating blobs of consciousness would easily render the memories they stored as he moved his senses inside them. They were like videos that would play itself again and again. The only difference is that they were memories of people and thus even their demons that didn't exist in reality would seem as real to them in their memories. The daunting task for him was to differentiate between what was real and what was a figment of their horrors.

He no longer tried to touch or interact with them in a way that can force him to five into another person's subconscious again.

He focused on one of the blobs with his new senses that were like his eyes in this world. It was a small blob, perhaps of a kid. Sorken remained still as he was completely focused on the memories so as to not miss a single fragment of consciousness.

As he was busy examining the memory, the world around him continued to shift with new blobs coming into existence and old ones bursting. The nature of this world was not just continuously changing but also not limited to the scope of limited understanding. The entire world contracted and retracted itself again and again as the locus of every blob still remained the same.

Deep inside this world stood an ebullient blob of consciousness. Unlike the other blobs that would not be affected by the changes occurring in this world. This blob would contract and retract with the world and regain its massive appearance with each cyclic break. The blob's size would sometimes increase and sometimes decrease. Its form was indescribable to the shapes known to men. It would bend in itself sometimes to a point that one would feel it is going to burst the next moment, but in a nick of time it would turn into a massive ball with no limits to its expansion.

As this process continued, it continued to change and adjust itself. Inside the blob were a consciousness that spanned entire generations and ages. From the consciousness of a child that died the moment it was conceived to the great old ones that fought against the cruelty of time and yet ended up dying in the end. The process never changed, it was static and yet efficient.

As it contracted again, a new set of consciousness started to replace the one already present there. Something that has never happened and one of the most dangerous situations has finally come to pass. The entire form jolted, as the sudden change forced it to examine the situation through its original consciousness.

The anomalous memory started to disfigure itself to countless bits as every change in the consciousness was laid bare as a strange form started to take shape around it. Unlike the others, this consciousness that seemed to originate from the place itself was just a face, with no features at all. A face with just two holes, probably signifying its eyes.

It continued to examine the memory and compared the changes that were made. The memories moved softly in front of the holes as it continued to separate a string of golden particles that floated separately now.

Somewhere in the world, a strong and gaunt figure was sleeping, but unlike a normal sleeping human, his pale body looked more like a dead body. His wife kept sleeping tugging at his hands as if he would go away the moment she loosened it. The man, his eyes open with nothing but white was still breathing and felt everything around him, but could not understand any of it. Some moments later, a strange glint shone in his eyes and as if brought back to life, he felt a change but couldn't comprehend it. He was excited for the next day and couldn't waste his sleeping time thinking about useless things.

'But, what is this feeling? Never mind' He changed his sleeping position and saw the gentle face of his wife as a strange feeling welled within him and he gently kissed her forehead and brought her in his embrace. That night, he had the best sleep of his life as he finally decided to change everything about his life.

The form that was examining the memory saw this change in the real world and another feature was now added to his face, a small contraction that could be compared to a smile if someone tried extremely hard. The features all suddenly vanished as a strange wave spread throughout out the universal subconscious and beyond. The being born out of the strange form became part of it again as it ignored the one still peeking into the consciousness of others and the order of contraction and retraction continued as before.

"The sleep has been interrupted. Someone has hindered the order. Take no action for the act itself has taken in for them the greatest punishment that could be beared and rejoice for we would witness it." A boyish voice echoed in a place where there was nothing.

It was the voice of a figure with their features indistinguishable sitting on a throne ever changing its shape in accordance with their changing posture.

"Great! Someone was finally foolish enough to do it! Hahahaha. How long I have waited. This is going to be so interesting. I wonder if anyone even has an inkling of what they have dabbled into? I hope they do, then there would be no fake considerations to be made for their actions."

The figure kept laughing like a child. They suddenly thought of something and focused their mind to recall the only memory they and all their brothers shared. "... and finally, never interfere."

"How can I not?" they let out a strange laugh as he focused their gaze. The world of nothing around them changed. "Let's go".
