Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Is Your Heart Black?

On the provincial road…

Vincent Fox rode side by side with Autumn Summer, their horses galloping steadily toward the provincial capital.

It was a long journey.

They'd already been riding for six or seven hours.

"At this pace, we'll reach the city in about another hour," Autumn said, glancing at the map.

Vincent nodded and was about to speak when suddenly, the low rumble of engines echoed from behind.

They both turned to look.

At the far end of the road, a line of dark shapes appeared in the distance, rapidly growing larger. The sound of engines grew louder and louder.

With his enhanced Spirit stat, Vincent's eyesight far exceeded that of an ordinary person. He saw clearly that the vehicles were a convoy of sidecar motorcycles and a few rusting old pickup trucks following behind.

When he spotted the drivers, his gaze turned cold. A killing intent flashed in his eyes.

Autumn also recognized them and asked nervously, "Vincent… should we get off the road?"

"No need."

Vincent's tone was calm. "If there's a fight, find cover and stay out of sight. Leave the rest to me."

Autumn paled but still nodded obediently.

After spending the past two days traveling together, she'd come to understand Vincent's temperament he was the kind of person who never said anything he didn't mean.

The convoy caught up to them quickly and came to a halt in front of them.

From the vehicles, soldiers in yellow military uniforms dismounted one after another.

They carried bayoneted rifles and scanned Vincent and Autumn with aggressive, predatory eyes.

When they saw Autumn's striking beauty, their expressions lit up with blatant lust.

"Pretty little flower! Yo-shi, yo-shi…"

The mustached officer in front said something in a guttural foreign tongue, sparking crude laughter from the men behind him.

They didn't act right away, though this was a public road, after all.

Instead, the officer pointed to a smirking traitor beside him. "You. Go interrogate them."

"Yes, Taikun!"

The traitor, a middle-aged man, bowed and grinned fawningly at the officer.

But the moment he turned to face Vincent, his demeanor changed completely arrogant, domineering, utterly repulsive.

"Where are you from? Where are you going?" he demanded, glaring at Vincent.

Vincent didn't even acknowledge him.

His focus was on the soldiers.

There were twenty in total, including the officer.

Then his eyes fell on the trucks behind them and his expression darkened.

Several young women were tied up in the back of the trucks, their hands and feet bound, their faces filled with despair.

They were all from Xia Nation.

Clearly, they had been captured and were being transported… to somewhere unspeakable.

A word burst into Vincent's mind. One full of fury and disgust.

"Baka!!"

The moment the officer noticed Vincent ignoring the traitor, he pretended to be outraged and barked an order in his language.

Translation: "They're spies! Arrest them!"

The soldiers immediately moved to surround them.

Vincent calmly gave Autumn a hand signal.

Autumn, quick-witted as ever, darted to hide behind a large roadside boulder.

Then Vincent struck.

In one fluid step, he crossed the distance and appeared right in front of the traitor, who barely had time to gasp.

A sudden, sharp pain exploded in the man's gut.

He looked down and saw Vincent's hand plunged deep into his abdomen.

Vincent's voice was cool and unhurried.

"Let's see if your heart… is as black as your soul."

With a brutal tug squelch Vincent ripped the still-beating heart out of the man's chest.

"AAAAARGH!!"

The traitor's scream echoed down the road as he collapsed in a pool of blood.

He had pulled out a living man's heart with his bare hands.

The soldiers were stunned. Pale-faced. Frozen in horror.

"Shoot him! Kill him!!" the officer shrieked.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

A barrage of bullets tore through the air.

Vincent disappeared.

Not because he teleported but because his speed had surpassed the limits of human perception.

When he reappeared, he was behind the officer.

Grabbing the man's jaw, he sneered, "Something this filthy… suits you perfectly."

He jammed the still-warm heart into the officer's mouth, stuffing it down his throat.

The man's eyes rolled back, choking, convulsing suffocating on the very organ of his comrade.

Meanwhile, the soldiers continued to fire.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bullets struck Vincent head-on.

But they only shredded his clothes. His skin wasn't even scratched.

Not even modern firearms could harm him anymore, let alone these outdated models.

Unfazed, Vincent finished shoving the entire heart down the officer's throat, like feeding a pig.

A human heart is about the size of a clenched fist. Forcing one down a person's throat was a death sentence.

The same officer who had earlier barked "pretty flower" with a leer, now died choking on a traitor's heart.

"He's a demon!!"

"An invincible devil!!"

"Run!!"

The soldiers broke rank and fled, terrified beyond reason.

But Vincent wasn't about to let them go.

He grabbed pebbles off the ground and flicked them one by one.

Each stone shattered bones, crippling every single fleeing soldier.

A few minutes later…

The entire squad was sprawled across the road, groaning in agony.

Vincent confiscated all their weapons, then turned to Autumn.

"Watch them," he said simply.

Then he walked over to the trucks.

Opening the doors, he was met with the terrified eyes of dozens of young women.

He sighed.

"You're free now."

The women couldn't believe it.

When they realized it was real, many of them broke down crying.

Vincent's heart ached for them but he had no time to console them properly.

He pointed to a second truck loaded with supplies looted by the soldiers.

"Take what you need. Split it among yourselves. Then go somewhere safe… and start over."

With that, he turned and walked away.

The moment he did

All the rescued women dropped to their knees, bowing, weeping, prostrating themselves toward him.
