Oops, I Accidentally Ascended to Godhood

Chapter 50: Zero risk, maximum gains

Appearing out of nowhere in a meditative pose, Tarkan quickly scanned his surroundings.

Seeing the familiar setup he used for roasting, and no sign of anyone around the premise, he didn't drop his guard.

With the streak of fortune he'd been having recently, he'd be lying if he said he wasn't worried something might go wrong.

He never used to believe in things like luck, but ever since he reincarnated into this strange world, he'd started to believe in a lot of things he once scoffed at.

Staring at the timer and the new talent he'd acquired, he felt reassured.

Even if someone was stronger than him, they'd have to catch him before they could touch him.

Clask... bang... clank...

The sudden sound of battle snapped Tarkan out of his thoughts.

Getting up, he decided to check it out.

Without wasting much time, he climbed a tall nearby tree, agilely moving up its rough trunk until he had a good view of where the sounds were coming from.

When his eyes landed on the scene, he froze for a second.

Below him was a girl, the most beautiful girl he had seen since coming to this world. VisitMyVirtualLibraryEmpire(MV-LEMP-YR)formore.

pearl-blue eyes so clear and mesmerizing that even from afar, Tarkan couldn't help but admire her.

She was engaged in a fierce fight with three creatures, all of them coordinating with a level of intelligence and presence that made it obvious.

Tarkan narrowed his eyes.

"Crowned-tier," he muttered. "All three of them."

He followed the trail of their battle with his gaze and spotted a fourth beast lying dead nearby. So originally there had been four Crowned-tier beasts, and all of them had ganged up on this one girl.

She seemed to be about his age.

Blood stained her body, obviously from wounds the beasts had inflicted.

Her face was pale, drained. She had clearly been using her talent, and was clearly out of energy.

Yet, with her sword in hand, she still parried incoming attacks, even as another creature dived in and slashed her side.

She was nearing her limit.

Tarkan watched quietly.

Then, as casually as someone watching a movie, he sat down on the thick branch and pulled out a bag of popcorn and a small packet of powdered milk.

A rare treat he had brought into this dimension, something to enjoy beyond the usual diet of meat.

Sprinkling the milk over the popcorn, he munched leisurely as he watched the girl continue her desperate struggle.

As much as he liked the idea of being a prince in shining armor, he liked the idea of reaping where he didn't sow even more.

If she could just injure one or two more of the beasts, or, even better, unleash a last-ditch trump card and kill all of them, then all he'd need to do was swoop down and collect their meat without lifting a finger.

Zero risk, maximum gains.

munching his popcorn, Tarkan silently cheered her on in his heart. She managed to bring one down. Only two left, but she was clearly at the end of her rope.

--

"You f***ing prick! Come and help me!"

A voice sweet as honey suddenly called out.

The girl's furious gaze was locked directly onto Tarkan's position. She looked absolutely pissed.

Tarkan, realizing he was busted, only blinked once or twice in surprise, then continued eating his popcorn, completely unbothered.

Seeing he had no interest in helping her, the girl clenched her teeth in frustration.

"I'll give you a creature's body if you help me!" she shouted, struggling to fend them off while stealing glances up at him. One of the wolf-like beasts managed to graze her stomach.

She groaned, pressing a hand against the wound applying pressure while swinging a knife with her free hand to keep the other two beasts at bay.

"I'll give you two corpses if you help me, please!" she yelled, desperation finally leaking into her voice.

Tarkan kept munching. He had zero intention of moving from his branch.

Honestly, he couldn't help but think she was dumb. If she died, he could have all four corpses.

The monsters were already wounded, he could finish them off without even using his talents or his precious timer.

As much as the image of being a gallant knight had appeal, there was something he liked even more, easy work.

Plus, he knew nothing about her, except she was beautiful and that was far from a reason to risk his neck.

She looked up at him again.

Her gaze took in his outfit, richly adorned clothing that practically screamed, "I'm stupidly wealthy."

Her expression turned darker when her eyes landed on the white mask covering the lower half of his face, a zipper peeled open at the mouth area. Only his bright blue eyes were visible, eerily similar to her own.

He hadn't said a word or moved a muscle. He just sat there, enjoying his snack, watching her battle like it was a form of stage play.

She grounded her teeth harder, anger and frustration building up.

Then, she took a deep breath.

"AHHHHHHHHHH!"

Like a dam breaking, her power exploded outward.

Ice shot out in all directions, impaling the remaining three beasts from multiple angles.

Two were pinned to trees.

The third was killed instantly by a shard to the skull. The force of the blow even flung its corpse a meter away from the girl.

Tarkan nodded slightly, impressed.

The girl's skin instantly dulled. Her body swayed as if she had aged ten years in a second.

Her consciousness hung on by sheer force of will. Clearly, this was a side effect of depleting her energy reserves completely.

Tarkan, still up on his perch, wasn't surprised. The only reason he could use his own talent without energy drain was entirely because of his timer.

He watched as the girl shakily reached into a side pouch, similar to the one Cassian used.

A space bag

Another rich kid.

She pulled out several potions and downed three, maybe four of them all without pause.

Bit by bit, her color returned.

Then she turned her head sharply toward Tarkan.

Wrath, Fury, Her glare could melt steel.

Tarkan, who had paused mid-chew, now wore a grim expression, but not for the reason one might expect.

His gaze was locked onto something else, seemingly unbothered by the girl.

With a weary smile, Tarkan sighed.

His luck really had been too good to be true.

The [Timer] had been at 3 minutes and 58 seconds not long ago. He had used it again and again to reverse time to the scene of the girl using her talent, repeatedly trying to comprehend the girl's ice-based Talent.

But despite using almost two full minutes... his comprehension had only gone up 5%.
