Only God

Chapter 523: The Town Confiscated by Death_2

After all, Slaier's reputation in the Mortal World had always been quite poor.

The Celestial Kingdom was teeming with Divine beings; some were very popular with mortals, like Hiris, Laiendos, Sibos, Angel, and so forth, while others were neglected, such as any Candle God, God of Secrecy, and some Divine beings were even despised, for instance the former War God, who often played the role of the antagonist in many religious Scriptures, and likewise the Death God Nakbet, because He signified death, as well as the Plague God, the Rodent God, and so on.

And Slaier, he was often categorized among those Divine beings who were despised.

Facing Wally, Slaier boldly revealed his identity and told him that he wished to choose him as the spokesperson for lies and trickery.

Wally was extremely frightened. Although the Dwarf boy loved to lie, he didn't want to be associated with a notoriously infamous Divine being.

Seeing this, Slaier then threatened him,

"Since you reject me, I will make sure you never taste 'sweetness' again in your lifetime until you repent."

Faced with Slaier's threat, Wally didn't care much at first. He thought that losing the taste of "sweet" wasn't a big deal compared to becoming the spokesman for a notoriously infamous Divine being. But after the situation persisted for a month, Wally couldn't bear it any longer.

Losing the taste of "sweet" was such an agonizing thing for a child.

Those juicy fruits, no matter how much he ate, tasted only sour without any sweetness. Those sweet honey treats, no matter how much he consumed, felt like he was eating melted candles.

Wally repented. He agreed to become Slaier's spokesperson and to serve this cunning Divine being hand and foot.

"So… wise Slaier… what is your plan?"

Wally asked cautiously,

"To confiscate death… How exactly do you intend to do it?"

Slaier pointed at Klade City in front of him,

"Here, so many people die every day.

Many are in a panic, afraid that death will come upon them.

No doubt, this is one of our stages."

Wally was somewhat confused.

Only to hear Slaier explain slowly:

"You might want to think about a question,

If a group of living people believed they were already dead, would they still die?

Or put another way, could they distinguish between life and afterlife?"

Wally listened, somewhat perplexed, half-understanding, and asked:

"So, we are supposed to make a group of living people think they're dead?"

Slaier clapped his hands and said:

"Exactly, that's right. I will simulate and build an afterlife world, and you will act as a guide in that world, making those living people believe as much as possible that they are truly dead."

Wally somewhat understood. So this was Slaier's meaning of "confiscating death."

The young boy couldn't help but ponder, if these living people truly believed they were dead, then what if suddenly someone told them they were actually still alive?

What, then, would happen?

What meaning would death have for them then?

Slaier watched Wally, lost in thought, and nodded in approval as if seeing through the boy's thoughts. Indeed, he was worthy of being the chosen spokesperson.

What Wally was contemplating was part of what Slaier sought to pursue, but Slaier's ambitions went deeper than what Wally imagined. The stage He desired was much greater.

Having chosen his spokesperson, Slaier then set about taking action.

Just as Slaier had seen earlier, Klade City was plunged into great turmoil due to the King's death, with order falling apart and death occurring every moment.

The city's citizens all lived in ignorance, not knowing when their turn to die would come.

In such circumstances, the disappearance of dozens or even hundreds of people might not cause much stir.

And the chaotic situation was like a fish to water for Slaier. He bestowed upon Wally the grace of lies and trickery, allowing him to wield Divine Power and deceive one dwarf after another that they were already dead.

At first, the attempts were not successful, but after Wally, who was already proficient at lying, overcame moral and mental barriers, he began to meet with success one after another.

He usually planned his lies during the day, and only began to act in the deep night when everyone else was asleep, crafting plausible and diverse lies for each different citizen.

When these citizens gathered together and discovered that each of their deaths was different, the last bit of doubt would be dispelled, and they would have to accept the "fact" that they had died.

And the god of lies and trickery, Slaier, not far from Klade City in the deep mountains, had created an afterlife town.

Wally led each deceived citizen into the deep mountains, telling them that the Netherworld Judges had already judged their sins, and allowed them to settle in this afterworld.

The afterlife town created by Slaier was extremely realistic, stemming from His experience of serving as a Judge in the Netherworld.

When the cheated citizens arrived at the town and saw that the scene before them corresponded closely with the mythological tales they had heard, they would deeply believe the "fact" of their own death.

"What an immersive sensation."

Watching one living person after another being led to the afterlife town, Slaier contentedly admired His own creation,

"A fictional world, brings about a fictional death."

Wally was somewhat panicked,

"What if any of them suddenly realizes the truth?"

Slaier retorted teasingly,

"When one person discovers the truth, then that person is a madman; if a group of people discovers it, then it's a rumor; only when the majority finds out, it becomes the truth."

Wally thought for a moment and realized that Slaier made a lot of sense.

He looked up and down at the afterlife town in front of him and found the details to be unimaginably intricate.

For example, after death one is usually in a spiritual state, and the physical senses would slowly fade, but Slaier used Divine Power to suppress the senses of these living beings, striving to provide them with real sensations of the afterlife.

And another example, in the mythological tales, the Netherworld is dark with no daylight, gloomy without light, but Slaier constructed a huge curtain to cover the sky and decorated the town with various skulls.

Furthermore, Slaier also built scenes of other realms of the Netherworld around the town, letting those who doubted their death believe that this was the Netherworld after stepping out of the town.

To ensure infallibility, the god of lies and trickery even led His few Believers to trek through mountains and rivers, to this remote place, playing roles such as guards and prison guards of the Netherworld.

"These living beings should feel fortunate; it's like playing a game, a grand role-playing game."

Slaier raised His hands high, cheering uncontrollably,

"Besides me, who else can provide such a game?!"

Wally echoed beside Him,

"Yes, no one but you can provide such a grand game."

......…

......…

The living beings brought into the afterlife town were not limited to Dwarves: under Wally's guidance, some humans living within Klade City, the Three-Eyed Ape People, Beastmen, and other races were also involved.

People of different races were brought into this false "Netherworld," not to mention those of different faiths.

Sooner than later, the dwarf Veldor would be led into the afterlife town by Wally.

It was said that Veldor and his Sects, after parting ways with Xilan, continued their traveling and preaching life in Kaelonde.

They found that Kaelonde had not become calmer since their departure, but rather more chaotic than before.

And as Kafu the Sixth expanded outward, the chaotic situation was overwhelmed in the joy of victory.

But just when Veldor and the others thought the good days suitable for preaching had finally come,

The death of Kafu the Sixth suddenly spread throughout the entire Kingdom, and the chaos, suppressed by victory, erupted once again.

Thus, due to a series of unforeseeable events, Veldor and his companions arrived at Klade City.
