Chapter 523: The Town Confiscated by Death
"This truly is a vast stage."
Slaier stood on a hillside, gazing distantly at the Kaelonde Kingdom.
He had witnessed the death of Kafu the Sixth.
Honestly, he bore some of the responsibility for Kafu the Sixth's death.
If it weren't for his appearance in the Helong Mountain Range, incarnating as a wish-granting Sage, and ultimately alerting Maxwell, Kafu the Sixth might not have inevitably met a disastrous end.
Slaier's thought was not an exaggeration.
Had Maxwell not been proactively prepared for war, nor understood the changes among the Dwarves, he would have been caught even more off guard, suffered a greater defeat, and even if he had survived and made it to the Royal City, he wouldn't have been trusted by the Golan people, become Regent, and organized the Golans to resist Kaelonde's conquest and invasion.
Slaier's actions were like those of a small butterfly, flapping its wings.
"However, even without me, and even if Golan had been conquered, the Dwarves were never destined to construct a vast Empire."
Historical events are filled with chance, yet historical trends are inevitable.
As a Divine, Slaier knew well that the Dwarves lacked the capacity to construct a vast empire. Those little beings, a head shorter than humans, couldn't even break the barriers between Clans, how could they possibly unite the Dwarf nations?
Moreover, led by the Dream God, Divine entities operated from behind the scenes, manipulating the direction of the kingdom.
"Speaking of which, Laren and the others might already have taken notice of me. Tsk, tsk, this is not a good sign."
Slaier muttered to himself.
The god of lies and schemes didn't belong to any faction of Divines. He had no intention of destroying other Divines' layouts and plans.
However, He had His own arrangement and plans, and He didn't mind disrupting the other Divines' schemes if it could assist His own.
For example, alerting Maxwell.
The reason Slaier did so was because the stage He wanted to set was much smaller; if Kafu the Sixth dragged more nations into chaos, it would not benefit the execution of His plan.
And His plan, while not simple, was not too complex either.
It had only one core principle:
To seize death.
"Kaelonde is headed for a civil war; many cities are already descending into chaos, tumultuous and restless."
Slaier scrutinized the gradually disorderly kingdom before him,
"Hmm... it's time to choose a spokesperson like the other Divines."
After speaking, the god of lies and schemes cast His gaze toward a figure who had long caught His eye.
It was a young boy.
Klade City, the fifth largest coal city of Kaelonde, plunged into shock recently due to the King's death.
The commotion in this city started earlier and was bigger in scale than in others, because Klade City was directly governed by the King himself, and its citizens' loyalty to the Royal Family far exceeded that of other places in the Kingdom.
Main streets and alleyways were abuzz with talk of the King's death, and even though proclamations from Aler and his allies had been posted on the city's bulletin boards detailing Kafu the Sixth's various crimes, the failure of the war, the tyrant's concealment, and demanding that Klade City unconditionally submit to their jurisdiction... the citizens of Klade City clearly weren't buying it. They firmly believed it to be an utter conspiracy, that Hiris's Glory had truly conquered Golan, while conspirators like Aler had assassinated the great Kafu the Sixth.
Mixed with true and false news, the Dwarves of Klade City saw a surge in heinous acts such as murder, robbery, theft, and rape amid the chaos, as the King's death left the city suddenly without a leader.
Slaier favored such chaotic environments, for only in these conditions could lies and deceit truly thrive.
And the spokesperson Slaier chose, was a young boy barely past his tenth birthday.
This boy, named Wally, was not one of Slaier's Believers. He was a pure Dwarf boy, and like other Dwarf boys, was a faithful adherent to the Dwarf's traditional beliefs, dreaming of becoming an excellent craftsman, forging world-renowned Divine weapons.
At first glance, this boy seemed nothing out of the ordinary.
The reason Slaier picked this seemingly unremarkable boy was that he often lied, and... he was very good at it.
Many children of this age couldn't maintain their lies under scrutiny. Pressed even slightly, any trace of deception would reveal their falsehoods.
Their lies were too unreal, downright obvious fabrications.
Wally was different; his lies were often half-true, half-false, and sometimes, they could even be interpreted as different perspectives on a situation.
Slaier, the master of lies and deceit, knew:
It is hard to get people to believe a complete lie, but to believe a lie laced with truth is incredibly easy.
Wally clearly had a talent in this regard. In Slaier's view, his future was incredibly promising and held great potential.
And so, Slaier appeared before Wally as night fell.
The Divine who prided themselves on honesty declared His identity from the start.
"You, you, you're really Slaier? The protector god of con artists, thieves, and conspirators?"
Wally said in astonishment.
"Or the protector god of lying children."
Slaier added.
Wally showed immense panic.
