Chapter 16: Chapter 16: The Strength Of Progress
The sea salt wind rushed into Solian's face as he was aboard the merchant ship, his eyes set on the distant island in front of him. He trained for a month consecutively, pushing his body to its limits and allocating his system points systematically.
Stats:

Agility: 11

System Points Available: 0
Solian clenched his fists, and he could feel the difference. His body was faster, faster, with a reaction that seemed almost unnatural compared to how it had reacted before. And his Devil Fruit abilities? Stronger than ever. His flames were hotter, thicker, and his teleportation was nearly instantaneous within its range.
The island came into view, a rocky shoreline dotted with dense jungle. Amidst all the turmoil of trees and hidden coves was his quarry—a 5-million-berry pirate.
The merchants had provided him with all the small information they had. The pirate, Tarsen "Iron Jaw" Valt, was a brute of a man who relied on force and toughness. He was originally a bounty hunter turned pirate and was known to be able to crush weapons in his jaw, which had been metal-strengthened, and even deflect bullets.
"A hard case, eh?" Solian complained. "Good. I could use a challenge."
The town was eerily quiet.
Solian slid through the narrow alleys, keeping low. His senses were heightened since before, and he could catch the muffled sounds of boisterous laughter spilling from a tavern up ahead.
"That's gotta be him."
Approaching, the doors burst open—a giant of a man with a battered metal jaw exited, dragging a white-faced barmaid by the wrist.
Tarsen.
The giant of a man stood well above seven feet, with massive, scarred arms. His metal-shining, razor-edged jaw glared in the lunar light.
"Listen, baby," Tarsen growled, "spill another on me, and I'll—"
FWOOOSH!
An explosion of congealed flame erupted at his feet, and he lost grip of the girl. She beat a hasty retreat, scampering for safety as Solian moved forward.
"You're causing trouble, Iron Jaw," Solian said, fire flickering in his palm. "Let's settle this."
Tarsen smiled, metal teeth glinting in the light. "Heh… a bratty fire-guy, huh? You think you can take me?"
He rushed forward.
But Solian had accelerated.
In the blink of an eye, he dodged to the side, feeling Tarsen's wind-fisted punch brush past his face. In the past, he would have been too slow to move in time—but not anymore.
Solian vanished, teleporting three meters behind his foe.
Tarsen whirled about, grinning. "Teleportation? Ain't gonna help, boy!" He charged—
But Solian was already moving.
BOOM!
A flame-scorched kick landed on Tarsen's ribs, and he skidded across the earth road. The explosion left blackened burn marks on his side, his coat smoking.
"That all you got?" Tarsen spat, wiping away blood from his lip.
Solian smiled.
"Nope. Just getting started."
He burst forward, dodging a massive punch and unleashing a blurring sequence of scorching blows. Each one landed solidly, sending Tarsen stumbling back—his reflexes too slow to keep up.
Solian could feel the difference.
With One-Eyed Drego, he'd faltered. His fires hadn't been strong enough, his frame too slow.
But now?
Now he was smashing his opponent.
Tarsen roared, pounding his fists against the ground. "Enough!"
Metal skidded across his jaw, and he bit down with awesomely terrible force—his jaws clamping shut like an anvil and crushing whatever with a pressure as hard as crushed stone.
But—
FWOOSH!
Solian portaled over him and whirled around.
"Torch Kick!"
His flame-shod heel came down atop Tarsen's head, stamping him into the ground with a shuddering blast of fire. The earth cracked open in the impact, fire devouring their way over Tarsen's now-still body.
Stillness.
Groaning, weakly, Tarsen stirred.
Solian landed, gazing down at his defeated enemy.
That's all?
He had expected a more challenging fight, but the difference in strength was too immense.
He was no longer frail.
There was a system message.
System Notice:
Bounty Claimed: Tarsen "Iron Jaw" Valt
Reward: 3 System Points
Solian panted, letting his flames subside. He inspected his hands, extending his fingers.
Faster. Stronger. Better.
This was only the beginning.
