Chapter 2: Ch 2. Miracle Operation, Astronomical Bounty
Not long after Roman left Seawing Island, it didn't take long for Vice Admiral Tsuru to arrive, leading a large force of Marines to surround the island.
On the devastated island, only Corazon, who had just been miraculously saved by Law, remained unconscious.
"Corazon!!!"
"Where's the medical team? Hurry, get over here and assess his condition!"
"We must save him at all costs!"
Vice Admiral Tsuru's expression was unusually tense. As an old comrade of Sengoku, she had only just learned about Corazon's secret identity — not only a spy for the Marines but also Sengoku's adopted son.
Saving him was an event of utmost importance!
While the medics rushed to tend to Corazon, Tsuru personally began inspecting the traces left across the island.
Stopping beside a half-melted building, she reached out and gently touched the scorched marks on the wall.
Burn marks were everywhere, menacing and overwhelming. Thinking back to that pillar of earth-scorching flame, even Tsuru, a battle-hardened Vice Admiral, felt a chill run down her spine.
"What terrifying power..."
While she murmured to herself, a medic ran over, his face filled with disbelief.
"Vice Admiral Tsuru, we've completed the examination."
"And?"
Tsuru turned sharply, focusing her sharp gaze on the medic.
"It's... strange," the medic hesitated before speaking. "By all accounts, Corazon's body should be under critical conditions — multiple gunshot wounds, severe bleeding, collapsed lungs — but... There are no signs of immediate death. Blood circulation and vital signs are stable, as if... as if someone performed a miraculous surgery on him!"
Tsuru's pupils shrank slightly at these words.
"A miracle surgery, huh... Looks like the Ope-Ope Fruit has already been consumed."
Sighing, Tsuru walked over to Corazon.
The heavily wounded Corazon opened his eyes weakly as Tsuru approached, struggling to sit up, but was quickly stopped by her.
"I'm only going to ask you a few questions," Tsuru said quietly.
"Yes..." Corazon responded, his voice a whisper.
"Do you know the identity of the mysterious figure who appeared?"
Corazon shook his head.
"Did you see his face?"
Corazon shook his head again.
"What about the Ope-Ope Fruit? Do you know where it is?"
Once more, Corazon shook his head.
Of course, he knew that it was Law who had saved him, but he could never reveal that to the Marines. Protecting Law was the last thing he could do — so that one day, the boy might grow strong enough to find his own place in the vast sea.
Tsuru stared into Corazon's eyes for a long moment but found no trace of falsehood.
Eventually, she sighed.
"Take Corazon back to the ship. Let him rest."
As Corazon was gently lifted away, Tsuru pulled out her Den-Den Mushi and made a call to Marine Headquarters.
Marineford, inside the Fleet Admiral's office.
The instant the Den-Den Mushi rang, Sengoku snatched it up.
"Is he-"
"Alive," came Tsuru's calm reply.
Hearing this, Sengoku, who had been holding his breath, finally relaxed. His entire body sagged in relief.
"That's good… that's good. The Ope-Ope Fruit? And Doflamingo?"
Tsuru smiled bitterly. "The fruit was taken, most likely by the mysterious figure. As for Doflamingo... he probably fled the moment that unknown powerhouse acted."
Tsuru briefly described everything she had seen: the sea of flames that melted the snow, the destruction of the Birdcage as if it were paper.
Even Sengoku, hearing about the terrifying flames that had pierced the heavens, broke out into a cold sweat.
"I understand. Finish your sweep of the island, and then return," Sengoku said grimly.
Once the call ended, Sengoku immediately reported the matter to Commander-in-Chief Kong.
Before long, Kong himself personally went to Mary Geoise, to inform the Five Elders.
Inside the sacred hall, the Five Elders sat quietly, listening.
"Kong," said the bald elder with a sword, "tell me you've brought good news."
Kong didn't flinch. Staring straight at the Five Elders, he announced in a deep voice:
"The Ope-Ope Fruit has been stolen."
At these words, the air in the room seemed to freeze. The elder, polishing his blade, halted mid-stroke, and an overwhelming killing intent burst forth, pressing down on Kong.
"Repeat that," the sword-bearing elder said coldly.
Holding firm, Kong repeated:
"A mysterious powerhouse appeared on Seawing Island. He seized the Ope-Ope Fruit."
The Five Elders fell into heavy silence.
Tension thickened the air.
Finally, after a long pause, the bald elder spoke again:
"I want a bounty posted immediately. 2 billion Berries. Find him at all costs. All intelligence control departments will assist. The Ope-Ope no Mi must fall into our hands."
Kong nodded heavily and left the Holy Land.
Within days, a bounty poster was posted. No photo. No name. Describe him only by one trait: Master of the Flame that Shatters the Heavens."
"I'll mobilize every intelligence agency to hunt him down."
Kong nodded heavily and turned to leave.
Soon after, bounty posters began to appear across the seas.
A blank bounty — no image, no name, no details — only a terrifying description and a jaw-dropping number: Heaven Piercing Flames. Wanted: 2,000,000,000 Berries.
Every island under Marine control, every bar, every corner of the underworld — all received the same news.
The World Economy News Paper, under Morgan's lead, dispatched a flood of News Coo birds to spread the poster across the seas.
Moby Dick, the ship of the Whitebeard Pirates.
Marco frowned as he looked at the poster.
"Old man, the Navy's gone crazy. They've issued a blank bounty poster — no face, no name, only that the person commands 'flames that pierce the heavens.' Two billion Berries!"
His words quickly drew the attention of all the Whitebeard Pirates.
"Two billion?!"
"And no info on him?!"
"What the hell did this guy do to make the Navy that mad?"
"Gurararara! A man like that — I'd love to have him as a son!"
Whitebeard's hearty laughter echoed across the deck, lifting the spirits of everyone aboard.
"Old man, you're at it again," Marco muttered with a wry smile.
—
Whole Cake Island.
Charlotte Linlin, known as Big Mom, prepared for her grand Tea Party when she received the paper.
"Two billion! Hmph! Those Marine dogs know how to stir up trouble."
Katakuri, standing beside her, said quietly:
"Mother, anyone who can make the Navy this desperate... must have done something that truly struck them at their core."
"Hmph! Once the Tea Party is over, if he dares show his face... I'll turn his soul into the sweetest dessert ever!" Big Mom cackled.
"Understood, Mama."
—
On a tiny, remote island.
A young Trafalgar D. Law held the blank bounty poster tightly in his hands.
In his mind, the image of the man who stood firmly amid the raging inferno remained vivid, etched into his soul.
His heart warmed.
"When I grow stronger... I will chase after you."
His determined voice rang out, lost amidst the endless ocean waves.
