Chapter 14: Ch 14. The Island Descends, Imu Takes Action
High above the skies of the Holy Land, Mary Geoise, a massive floating island, hovered ominously, as if struggling to break free from the shackles of darkness.
As it slowly descended, the crimson flames engulfing the Holy Land reflected off the island's rocky surface, casting a hellish glow across the heavens.
The wind howled sharply, piercing straight into the hearts of everyone below.
"W-What is that thing?!"
"Look! In the sky! Why is an island falling from above?!"
"The island… It's dropping!!"
"We're doomed! It's all over!"
Panic spread like wildfire.
Countless people raised their heads in horror, gazing at the sky as the floating island plummeted toward them. They wanted to flee, to find shelter—but there was nowhere to go.
The entire Holy Land was within the impact zone.
Not far away, Kizaru, who had finally escaped from the Six Rods Prison of Light, looked utterly battered. His once-pristine uniform was scorched and torn, and burns covered his body.
He hadn't expected Roman to be so overwhelmingly powerful, let alone that the Six Rods Prison of Light could suppress his light elemental form!
As he looked to the sky, his usual lazy tone and playful demeanor was gone.
"Damn it... Is this that guy's doing again?!"
Having lost the support of the talisman's ability, the floating island was now plummeting freely from the sky. The friction with the atmosphere had turned the massive structure into a blazing fireball.
It must be stopped.
If not, his salary this month… might be a victim of the repercussions and disappear entirely.
For the sake of his paycheck, Kizaru gritted his teeth. Crossing his arms, he formed a seal with his fingers.
"Yasakani no Magatama!"
Brilliant lights flashed from his fingertips as countless beams of light energy shot toward the falling island. Each one struck with a violent explosion.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
But despite the chain of detonations, the size of the island made it laughably insignificant, like trying to quench a forest fire with a cup of water.
Kizaru's manpower was simply not enough!
Suddenly, a figure in a Marine cap stepped up beside him.
"Meteor Volcano!"
It was Akainu!
With a furious roar, his magma-infused fists launched massive fists of molten rock into the sky. The magma-like bombs smashed into the island, erupting with molten fire.
But even the two top Admiral candidates combined couldn't halt the descent of the colossal landmass.
On the warship in the distance, Roman stood silently, watching the spectacle unfold.
"They're finally making a move."
Just as he thought this, deep within Mary Geoise, at a secret location known only as the Room of Flowers, an overwhelming sword aura burst forth.
A sword slash tore through the sky—vast, unstoppable, and limitless.
A slash that suppressed the heavens!
Wherever the sword aura passed, wind screamed, and the sky twisted in its wake.
The strike locked onto the center of the falling island.
Slash!
One slash became two.
Two slashes became four.
Four slashes became eight...
In the blink of an eye, thousands of sword waves filled the sky, wrapping the entire island in a storm of sword slashes.
Faced with this sword storm, the island was like chapped lips in the cold, cracked, ashy, and shredded to dust.
In mere moments, the massive floating island had disintegrated into ashes, scattered by the wind.
On the ground, both Kizaru and Akainu stood dumbfounded.
They had exhausted their strength trying to destroy the island… and failed.
Yet this one sword slash had done it effortlessly.
On the ship, Roman's lips curled into a small smirk.
He reached out, gently brushing the silky, soft hair of Hancock, the girl beside him.
"Looks like we didn't get to deliver our gift today," Roman said softly.
"But I promise you, one day, I'll give them an even bigger 'present".
He turned to her again.
"For now… let me take you back to Amazon Lily."
Just as his words fell, a mechanical voice rang out in his mind.
[Ding! New Sign-in Task: Amazon Lily. Reward: Armament Haki (Peak Level)! Time Limit: 3 days!]
A full day had passed since their departure from Mary Geoise.
The skies were clear, the sun shone brightly, and the wind was calm. With the warship's high-speed mobility, the journey had been leisurely and smooth.
Roman leaned against the ship's railing, letting the sea breeze flutter his cloak. Without turning his head, he asked.
"You're leaving?"
Behind him, Fisher Tiger nodded solemnly.
"I plan to return to Fishman Island and check on things over there."
"Be careful."
Knowing Fisher Tiger had his own goals, Roman didn't try to stop him. Everyone had their path.
"If you come to Fishman Island, be sure to find me!" Fisher Tiger grinned.
"Mm."
Under his cloak, Roman smiled faintly at the man's forthrightness.
As Fisher Tiger dove into the ocean and disappeared, Roman turned and headed back to his room.
That night, the moon was high and the stars were scattered sparsely across the sky.
The warship had already entered the Calm Belt—a dangerous zone with no wind, where sailing ships often became sitting ducks.
But that wasn't what made it infamous.
The Calm Belt was home to the terrifying Sea Kings—massive sea monsters with immense power.
A Sea King, one kilometer in length, was manageable. A Vice Admiral could handle it with effort.
At three kilometers, it became a real threat, requiring multiple Vice Admirals or an Admiral.
At five kilometers or more… only special means could deal with them. Killing one head-on was nearly impossible with their massive size.
Even Admirals struggled to pierce their tough hides.
Roman stepped out of his cabin and onto the deck, and he spotted Hancock standing alone, gazing into the misty horizon.
He walked up beside her.
"Missing home?"
Hancock nodded slightly.
She looked up at Roman, her voice gentle.
"R-Roman... don't you miss your home?"
She blushed as she spoke his name, heart pounding.
Luckily, the night concealed the color rising in her cheeks.
"Miss it? Hmm, no, not really."
"What, why not?"
"Because… there's nothing there worth missing."
Hancock's eyes welled up as her nose turned sour.
She reached out and gently tugged at his sleeve.
"Roman, can I…"
Before she could finish, Roman's eyes suddenly flashed with alertness and vigilance.
Without hesitation, he activated the power of his Rooster-Talisman, lifting the entire warship into the sky!
In the next instant, the sea below turned pitch black.
ROAR!!!
A monstrous tidal wave surged upward from the ocean depths, crashing toward where they had just been moments ago...
