Chapter 13: Ch 13. Kizaru Arrives, A Gift Unfolds from the Heavens
Hancock didn't feel a hint of pain. Instead, what she felt… was warmth.
A gentle, enveloping warmth radiated from her back.
—So warm…
It was a sensation she had never experienced before. For someone who had lived her life in chains and shadows, it was almost surreal. Soon, a brilliant design—a phoenix rising from the ashes—appeared across her back.
"Now that looks much better."
That voice. It pierced through the cold walls she erected around her heart like sunlight cracking through storm clouds.
And then—
The tears she had been holding back, the same ones dancing at the edge of her vision, finally spilled.
Drip.Drip.
Without a second thought, Hancock threw herself into Roman's embrace.
"T-Thank you… Thank you for saving us!
Ever since we were taken near Amazon Lily, no one… no one's ever treated us this kindly…"
Roman gently patted her back. His tone was calm and warm, like an older brother:
"It's alright now. Let me give your two sisters something as well."
He turned his gaze to the two younger girls behind Hancock and smiled.
"She said you're from Amazon Lily, right? Then I'll give you both the emblem of the Nine-Headed Hydra. How does that sound?"
The girls nodded fervently. "Mm-hmm!"
In moments, the mark of the Celestial Dragons—the hoof of shame—was replaced by a powerful symbol of their homeland.
"Thank you… I'm Boa Hancock. You can just call me Hancock."
"I am Boa Sandersonia!"
"Boa Marigold!"
Roman chuckled as Hancock fidgeted slightly under his gaze.
"I'm Roman."
The moment she heard his name, Hancock's cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red.
"Big sis, are you sick?"
"Why is your face so red?"
Pulled out of her trance by her sisters' teasing, Hancock snapped back to reality.
"We have to leave now! If we don't escape right away, we might never get the chance again!"
She looked at Roman.
"I'll take you out of here," he said calmly.
"Mm!"
"Okay!"
The girls didn't hesitate. Though they had only known Roman briefly, Hancock and her sisters already trusted him wholeheartedly.
Especially Hancock. At this moment, Roman's figure had already taken root in her heart.
—
As they emerged from the underground cellars, Roman turned to Fisher Tiger.
"Feeling better?"
"Much better," Fisher Tiger replied as he got up.
His fishman body had already stopped bleeding and began forming scabs.
"Then let's leave Mary Geoise."
Roman led the way. Hancock and her sisters followed, while Fisher Tiger took up the rear to watch over them.
The closer they got to the coastline… The brighter the girls' eyes became.
The sea. It meant freedom. It meant everything they had dreamed of while in chains.
"We're almost out… We're really going to escape!"
Just as Hancock spoke—
A flash of light appeared before them, followed by a mocking voice:
"Escape? That's not gonna happen~"
As the light dispersed, a tall, slim man stepped into view. He had black wavy hair, with some facial hair. He wore a yellow-striped suit, sunglasses, and sported a calm, almost lazy expression.
Fisher Tiger's eyes widened in disbelief.
"V-Vice Admiral K-Kizaru?!"
One of the Marines' three monsters.
Fisher Tiger knew that name all too well.
Hovering above them, Kizaru glanced down at the group, his lips twisting into exaggerated shapes as he spoke slowly:
"So scary~ I didn't expect Fisher Tiger to be working with some mysterious guy…
But hey, taking you all down might get me a pay raise~"
Arrogant. But he had the strength to back it up.
As the wielder of the Glint-Glint Fruit, Kizaru had unparalleled speed, mobility, and deadly piercing attacks. Each one could place its wielder among the top-tier Logia types, much less all in one Devil Fruit!
He looked straight at Roman.
"Have you ever been kicked at the speed of light?"
In a burst of yellow light, Kizaru vanished.
—Light-Speed Kick!
So fast, the naked eye couldn't even follow—
But Roman didn't even flinch.
Snap!
Six glowing rods appeared before him, locking Kizaru in mid-air like an insect caught in amber.
"Bakudō #61: Six Rods Prison of Light"
His voice was calm. The action, effortless.
Kizaru's body froze, completely restrained in place within the light prison.
"W-What…? This… this isn't possible!"
Not only Kizaru but even Fisher Tiger stood there, stunned.
"O-One move… he neutralized Kizaru in just one move?!"
His voice trembled with shock.
Just moments ago, the arrogant Vice Admiral Kizaru, who had spoken of promotions.
Now, he was helpless—sealed like a bug in a jar.
Hancock clutched the edge of Roman's cloak. Her eyes reflected only one person—Roman himself.
"He's so… strong…"
"Hope the Marines covers your medical bills," Roman muttered.
He twisted the hilt of his sword—Ryūjin Jakka—and gave a love tap with the blade touching Kizaru's head.
"Taimatsu(Torch)."
BOOM!
A fiery explosion erupted!
A swirling tornado of flame engulfed all of Kizaru.
The intense heat scorched his body—yet he couldn't move, not even to disperse into light.
"Let's go."
With a fluid motion, Roman sheathed his sword.
And just like that, they walked out of the Holy Land, Mary Geoise.
—
He found a battleship, commandeered it, and began sailing it into the distance.
On the deck, Roman stood tall, his cloak fluttering in the sea breeze. He gently brushed Hancock's hair.
"Do you hate that place?"
Hancock nodded firmly. Her feelings toward it were simple—pain and hatred.
"Then let me leave them a little gift."
With that, Roman raised his hand…
Snap.
Hancock blinked. Nothing seemed to happen.
But then—
Fisher Tiger suddenly pointed to the sky, his face filled with terror.
"T-The sky! Look at the sky!!"
Everyone looked up.
And then… they saw it.
