Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Colonel Morgan

Mona was just a girl after all, and like many girls, she dreamed of a knight in shining armor who would stand up for her.

That punch swift and decisive gave her a glimpse of a different side of the captain. Beneath the wealth and flirtatiousness, there was a compelling strength.

But her moment of admiration quickly gave way to worry. That disgusting man just now had claimed to be the son of a Navy colonel.

According to the drone's explanation, the Navy was the ruling force that upheld order in this world.

Wouldn't punching someone like that bring serious trouble?

Like… being mistaken for a pirate?

"You... you actually hit me! Not even my dad has ever hit me!" Helmeppo screamed, cradling his swollen face.

Spoiled rotten by his father's rank and unchecked in his abuse of power, Helmeppo was used to getting his way. Now humiliated, he turned and roared at the two Navy soldiers flanking him, "What are you idiots waiting for?! Arrest him! Sentence him to death! Execute him!"

But the two soldiers didn't move.

They had families too. Parents. Wives. Children.

They were just ordinary men doing their jobs. And they'd long grown sick of Helmeppo's behavior his harassment, his abuse, his bullying of civilians. This wasn't the first time. Not by a long shot.

But since Helmeppo was the son of Colonel Morgan, the officer who ruled the 153rd Branch with an iron fist, there was nothing they could do. They kept their heads down, letting their sense of justice rot away.

Now, seeing Helmeppo take a well-deserved beating, they wanted to cheer. Why on earth would they step in to help him?

They feared Colonel Morgan, not this pathetic, overindulged brat.

The soldiers did nothing but the wolf on a leash did. It had already been snarling with bared fangs, furious that its master had been attacked.

Now, hearing Helmeppo's command, it lunged at Ethan Chen with a furious growl, jaws wide open.

Ethan didn't hesitate. This beast clearly had a history of terrorizing people. He raised his leg and launched a brutal kick straight into the wolf's midsection.

The impact sent the animal flying more than ten meters through the air.

Dogs are famous for their iron skulls and brittle waists and this one was no exception. Blood and viscera spewed from its mouth midair. By the time it crashed to the ground, it was already dead, limbs stiff and body still.

Helmeppo was stunned silent. The two soldiers panicked and dragged him away as quickly as possible.

Only after they had gone did the stunned townsfolk begin murmuring, their voices low and fearful.

"Kid, you just punched Colonel Morgan's son. He won't let that slide."

"You're not from around here, are you? You've got a ship, right? Then get out of here while you still can!"

"Even if they leave now, how are they going to outrun a Navy ship on the open sea?"

"Still better than sitting around waiting to die."

The onlookers had no doubt Ethan was doomed.

In their eyes, there was no one in the entire East Blue who could challenge the power and authority of Colonel Morgan.

"Why would we run?" 2B tilted her head, curiosity piqued. "Is he really that strong?"

So far, 2B had only encountered two Navy officers with the rank of colonel, Hina and Nezumi. Hina's presence was formidable, enough to put her on edge. Nezumi, on the other hand, was so weak he couldn't even measure up to most of Hina's crew.

Same rank worlds apart in ability.

"Two years ago, Colonel Morgan captured the captain of the Black Cat Pirates alive, even after his entire unit was wiped out! That guy had a bounty of sixteen million berries!"

"Sixteen million?" 2B frowned slightly. "That's not very high."

She'd fought pirates with ten million berries on their heads. They weren't that strong. So this 'Black Cat' crew being worth only six million more didn't impress her much.

The crowd was stunned. Not impressed by a sixteen-million-berry bounty? Just how strong was this woman with the two swords on her back?

Clearly, she wasn't ordinary.

"We should set sail," Ethan decided after a moment's thought. "I'll talk to Hina about Morgan. We don't need people like him tarnishing the Navy's name."

It wasn't ideal to always rely on connections, but it was better than offending the entire Navy and ending up on a wanted poster.

After all, there was no telling how deep Morgan's influence ran. Even if they beat him, if the wrong person reported them, it could lead to serious consequences.

"Got it," 2B nodded without hesitation, fully supporting his decision.

On the way back, Mona looked over her shoulder at the distinctive Navy base in the center of town. "Aren't the Navy supposed to uphold justice? How does someone like that become a colonel's son and act like a tyrant? Judging by the townsfolk, this isn't even his first time."

"There are rotten apples in every barrel," Ethan said. "There's no such thing as absolute justice."

"I guess that makes sense." Mona nodded. "But you did punch a colonel's son. Aren't we going to be hunted for it?"

"Don't worry. We have someone in high places."

"You mean Hina?"

"Exactly. She's a colonel in Navy Headquarters. Her rank outranks any local branch officer like Morgan."

"I see," Mona nodded thoughtfully. In this world, the danger didn't come only from pirates even the Navy had villains abusing their power.

It was far more dangerous than she had imagined.

Thankfully, she had someone protecting her. Someone who gave her shelter and safety.

She glanced up at Ethan Chen, then silently followed in step beside him.

Back at the ship, the books, food, and supplies had already been delivered and were being sorted with help from the drone.

Ethan told Mona to help with the organizing, while instructing 2B to raise anchor.

But just as the anchor was pulled up, a crowd of Navy soldiers surged onto the dock, rifles raised and aimed at them.

Leading them was a tall, imposing figure with an iron jaw and a giant axe for a right hand.

Colonel "Axe-Hand" Morgan.

"Dad, that's the guy who hit me!" Helmeppo shouted from behind, his face still swollen. "I told him who you were, and he didn't even care!"

"He dared to ignore the name of Colonel Morgan…" Morgan's forehead bulged with veins. Hitting his son? Whatever. That waste of space probably deserved it.

But ignoring his name? Unforgivable.

In this place, no one disrespected Colonel Morgan and got away with it.

"Seize him! I'll execute him myself!"

"Yes sir!"

None of the soldiers dared defy Morgan's order. At his command, they unsheathed their weapons and charged.

"2B," Ethan said calmly, "use the flat of the blade. Just knock them out."

"Understood."

2B drew her longsword, White Oath, and leapt from the ship. In the blink of an eye, she became a blur, dashing straight into the crowd of marines.

In a single instant, every soldier lay groaning on the ground, incapacitated.
