One Piece: It All Started When I Found Shanks' Arm

Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Closed-Door Training Begins, Pale Thunder Breath

Chapter 59: Secluded Training and Azure Lightning Breath

A few minutes later, Shane had finished his breakfast. He watched with great interest as the little husky at his feet furiously lapped up a bowl of milk.

There had been five cartons of strawberry milk in the fridge, and he had poured all of them into the bowl. In no time, the pup had drunk every last drop, its little pink tongue licking the edges of the bowl, clearly wanting more.

Its little belly was round and taut, making it look utterly adorable. Shane couldn't help but crouch down and poke it with a finger.

Seeing Shane lean in, the little creature immediately leaped into his arms. Its purple eyes narrowed into crescent moons, and a contented, purring sound rumbled in its throat.

"Hic—"

It suddenly let out a tiny, strawberry-scented burp. Its fluffy tail froze awkwardly in mid-air as it shot a sheepish glance at its master.

"Heh, you already know how to read the room at such a young age," Shane chuckled. Wolves and dogs really were from the same family. No wonder its initial loyalty was as high as 89.

He checked the panel. The loyalty stat had already updated to 92.

"Silver fur, naturally curly, loves strawberry milk, and has those lifeless, dead-fish eyes of wisdom."

Shane stroked his chin. "Hmm, I don't even need to think about a name for you. How about we call you Gin?"

Gin?

The little pup wagged its tail happily again. It didn't understand what the word meant, but it was thrilled to have a name of its own!

"No objections? Then it's settled."

Shane laughed heartily. "Let's go, Gin! Time to go out and train!"

He pushed open the door. The neighbor's two parrots were already perched on the courtyard wall.

"MY BRO, THE CHAMPION!"

"MY BRO, THE HERO!"

Shane's face immediately darkened.

The sheer cringe was unbearable.

It was a debt incurred by Nami a year ago, and he was still paying for it.

"Gin, get 'em!" he commanded, immediately putting his new little henchman to work.

"Woof—BARK!"

Gin did his best to bare his tiny puppy teeth, letting out a roar towards the wall.

To Shane, it looked more cute than intimidating, but surprisingly, it worked. The two parrots flinched, then began to tremble in fear, falling completely silent.

"Whimper…"

Another terrified whine came from nearby. Shane turned his head and saw the large white dog he had almost sacrificed years ago. It was just passing by on the shaded path, but now it was cowering on the ground, foaming at the mouth, its limbs shaking uncontrollably.

So bloodline suppression is real?

It seemed especially effective against canines.

Shane was pleasantly surprised. He rubbed Gin's belly. "Not bad, little guy. If you can ever scare Akainu into submission like that, I'll never question your Royal Silver Wolf lineage again."

Akainu?

Gin tilted his head, his small eyes filled with immense confusion. What was that? Was it edible?

On the mountaintop, a cold wind howled.

Shane, however, stripped off his jacket and pants, tossing them aside to reveal a body of powerful, well-defined muscle.

Gin immediately trotted over, dutifully picking up the clothes in his mouth and carrying them to a clean stone block nearby.

"JARVIS."

With a stoic expression, Shane lightly touched his chest.

Ripples instantly spread across the surface of his skin as a suit of pure black, like nano-tech armor, rapidly covered his entire body.

Of course, that was pure fantasy.

In reality, Gin sat obediently by the stone block, watching with a bewildered expression as his master pulled a black suit out of thin air and grunted, struggling to shove his legs into the pants…

As elastic as the material was, its auto-fitting feature only worked after he put it on. The process of getting into it was still a bit of a challenge.

"Finally, it's on."

Shane set the weight to 2.2 tons. A familiar, crushing pressure instantly descended upon him.

He had taken a break to relax his mind and body after defeating Arlong, so it had been a while since his last weighted training session. It took a moment to get used to it again.

While doing handstand push-ups to warm up, he browsed the three manuals before him.

The other two had prerequisites, so he had to start by mastering Paper Art. As for Tempest Kick, its priority could be pushed back.

His plan for the foreseeable future was to practice Paper Art every morning and temper his Armament Haki in the afternoon.

He would head home for dinner to eat with his sisters and wouldn't go out at night. Training for that many hours a day was already more than what a normal person could handle. There was no need to push himself to the brink like he had before Arlong's arrival.

After just over a year of being constantly on edge, his mental state was already a bit frayed.

If he kept that up for a few more years, by the time he was old enough to set sail, the world wouldn't be getting a new hero. It would be getting a full-blown maniac.

About half an hour later, Shane finished his warm-up and had a good grasp of the manual. He sat cross-legged on the ground, lost in thought.

Paper Art, to put it simply, was a physical technique for evading attacks by sensing the slightest changes in airflow. It was similar to Observation Haki, but fundamentally different.

If he could dodge an enemy's attacks with the slightest of movements—as effortlessly as a piece of paper drifting in the wind—without relying on his sight, and even achieve an evasive effect that made his body appear to "phase" through things…

Then he would have more or less mastered it.

"Iron Body is about hardness, while Paper Art is about softness…"

Shane pondered this. He had mastered Iron Body by having Manba and the others take turns relentlessly beating him with spiked clubs.

To master Paper Art, he couldn't do it alone either. He needed a sparring partner, one who could unleash attacks that would truly pressure him to dodge.

A sparring partner…

His gaze slowly shifted, inevitably landing on Gin.

"Woof?"

Before Gin could react, Shane had him dangling by the scruff of his neck. "Listen, Gin," he coaxed gently, "do you have any kind of attack skill? Something fast. Try using it on me."

"Awooo—"

Gin, who had been whimpering and wagging his tail in protest at being held in mid-air, tilted his head at the request. He thought for a moment, then suddenly let out a low growl, every strand of his silver fur standing on end.

Shane felt a tingling, numbing sensation in his palm and instinctively loosened his grip. In that instant, a blinding, bluish-purple light erupted from the pup's throat.

ZAP!

A bolt of lightning, as thick as a bowl, shot past Shane's ear. It slammed into the rock face over a dozen meters behind him, blasting a charred, smoldering hole several meters deep.

Amidst the lingering smoke, Gin landed on all fours, his body still crackling with arcs of electricity, his purple pupils glowing with a silver, lunar light.

"Awoo?"

It seemed to be the first time he had realized he possessed such an ability. He curiously lifted a paw, which was still sparking with electricity, and turned it over and over.

"Holy shit!"

Shane's jaw dropped. He stared at the still-smoking mountain wall, then looked down at his own slightly numb hand.

This was the kind of destructive power a one-day-old pup could have?

That blast it had just coughed up… if it had hit him without Iron Body activated, a large chunk of his flesh would have been blown away.

A normal person would have been turned into a charred corpse on the spot.

He suddenly remembered something and quickly opened the System panel, navigating to the pet tab.

Just as he expected.

A few lines of newly refreshed information appeared.
