Chapter 180: The Rocks Pirates
"I never expected you to know our leader's name!"
"This truly surprises us!"
Hearing Buggy mention forty years ago and seeing his shocked expression at the name Bob, both Crocodile and Jinbe looked at him with great interest.
"Bob?"
"What's the matter? Is this person incredibly strong?"
Seeing the reactions of these three, Luffy felt completely puzzled. He stretched his neck forward, leaning closer to Buggy.
Gulp!
At Crocodile words, Buggy swallowed hard, a layer of fine sweat appearing on his face.
He looked utterly incredulous.
"Bob… He's still alive?"
"How is that possible!"
Ignoring Luffy question, Buggy was completely lost in shock, muttering to himself.
He recalled his time on the Roger Pirates.
Once, during a drunken moment, Captain Roger had shared a long-buried secret with him.
It was about a man named Bob and his role in the God Valley Incident.
He never imagined that after all these years, Bob, who had vanished from the world sight, would suddenly reappear in conversation—and as the leader of the Seven Warlords, no less.
"So he's still alive!"
Hearing this, Crocodile and Jinbe both chuckled.
"Of course our leader is alive and in excellent health!"
Buggy reaction was exactly what they had expected.
In this world, anyone who knew of Bob would be utterly astonished.
"Hey! Big Nose!"
"You still haven't answered my question!"
Seeing that Buggy was still lost in shock and ignoring him, Luffy couldn't help but speak up again. Not just him, but the hundreds of prisoners in their striped uniforms also crowded around.
"Yeah! Tell us, who is this Bob? Is he really that strong?"
"He must be pretty powerful if he's the leader of the Seven Warlords, right?"
"How does he compare to the Marine Admirals or the Four Emperors?"
"I've never heard of him before. He probably can't match the Four Emperors, or he'd be famous across the seas!"
"…"
The prisoners, like Luffy, were eagerly awaiting Buggy response.
Someone like this must surely be stronger than the Seven Warlords, especially since they were about to head to Marineford.
With someone like him, their chances of survival would surely increase.
Hearing the prisoners' speculations about Bob strength, Buggy gave them a disdainful glance.
"Marine Admirals?"
"Four Emperors?"
"Your knowledge is truly limited!"
Though Buggy didn't directly explain Bob strength, his words carried an implicit message: compared to Bob, the Four Emperors and the Admirals were nothing.
"Forty years ago, during the era of Rocks, Bob was the youngest commander on the Rocks Pirates!"
Buggy recounted the information he had learned from Captain Roger, sharing it with the eager crowd before him.
"At around twenty years old, he defeated legends like Shiki and Zephyr!"
"He even killed Celestial Dragons and seized their treasures!" Buggy expression became extremely grave and solemn at this moment, having completely suppressed his initial shock.
"Back then, Bob was the second most wanted pirate on the seas, second only to Rocks himself! Even Roger at the time couldn't compare!"
"Slaying a Celestial Dragon! Seizing the Heavenly Tribute!"
"And he was even more outstanding than Roger during the same period!"
"Achieving such feats at just over twenty years old—what kind of monster is he?!"
Buggy words deeply shook the hearts of the pirates.
Even someone as simple-minded as Luffy could sense the immense power Bob must have possessed at that time.
Who was Roger? He was the one and only Pirate King acknowledged by everyone!
Yet, during the era of Rocks, such a man was firmly overshadowed by Bob.
"Big Nose! If Bob was so powerful, why haven't we heard much about him until now?" Luffy crouched in front of Buggy, his face filled with curiosity about Bob and the Rocks Pirates.
"And what's this about the Rocks Pirates you mentioned?"
The hundreds of prisoners who had escaped from Impel Down felt the same way.
Luffy had voiced the questions lingering in their minds.
"This all goes back to a battle known as the God Valley Incident!" Buggy thoughts returned to the Oro Jackson, recalling the complex expression on Roger face as he recounted this past event.
Hearing this, not only Luffy but also Crocodile and Jinbe leaned in closer.
They were familiar with the earlier parts of the story, but when it came to the God Valley Incident, they only knew of its existence—the details remained unclear.
The Pirate King rarely spoke of this battle in front of others, and even when asked, he would usually brush it off with a single sentence.
"During the God Valley Incident, the Celestial Dragons were preparing to hold a sacrificial ceremony!" Buggy continued, his eyes sweeping over his audience. "At that time, the world most powerful pirate crew, the Rocks Pirates, took the opportunity to attack God Valley!"
"The World Government deployed many of its top-tier fighters, and almost all of the current high-ranking Marine officers participated!" Buggy paused here. "And the strength of the Rocks Pirates was terrifying!"
"How strong are they?!" Luffy, listening to Buggy explanation, felt as though he had been introduced to a world of unparalleled strength he had never seen before.
Seeing Buggy suddenly stop, he eagerly urged him to continue.
"Among the current Four Emperors, the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates, the world strongest man, Whitebeard, Big Mom of the Big Mom Pirates and Kaido, the captain of the Beasts Pirates—almost all of them were commanders within the Rocks Pirates at that time!" Buggy words struck like a bolt of lightning, reverberating in the minds of Luffy and the others.
"And one of the legendary Great Pirates, Shiki, was also one of their commanders!"
BOOM!
Mr. 3, Luffy, and the hundreds of pirates all widened their eyes in shock.
A single pirate crew had gathered three future Four Emperors and a legendary pirate.
And there was also their captain, Rocks, who was even more powerful than them.
Just how terrifying was this pirate crew?!
Yet, within such a crew, Bob managed to surpass everyone, becoming the second most powerful pirate after Rocks.
In other words, his strength surpasses even that of the Four Emperors.
"Such a powerful pirate crew, yet they ultimately fell to the World Government?" Mr. 3 murmured quietly.
In his heart, he was both astonished by the might of this super pirate crew and fearful of the Marine.
This trip to Marineford was turning out to be far worse than he had imagined.
