Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Nine Don’t Match Eight
"No way, it really is the great pirate Don Kreig. What's he doing here?"
"I heard he and his several thousand men were headed for the Grand Line. Could the rumors be false?"
"That's not the question. What on earth does he want here?"
Ignoring the chatter around him, Gin helped Don Kreig walk into the restaurant.
As captain of the largest pirate crew in the East Blue, Don Kreig's arrival naturally drew attention. Chef Zeff approached him and asked politely about his purpose.
Don Kreig smiled and said, "I came just to eat. Nothing else."
When guests are hungry, it's Sanji's duty as chef to feed them. That's Sanji's belief.
Just as Sanji prepared to start cooking, Paddy, the waiter, stopped him. "Are you stupid? That guy's infamous for breaking promises. Do you really believe him?"
Sanji took a deep puff from his cigarette. "So what? I know someone's hungry. As a chef, it's my job to feed them."
Paddy warned, "What if he eats his fill and then robs us?"
Sanji shrugged. "We'll deal with that later. We're chefs at a sea restaurant!"
Luffy's eyes lit up. "No wonder I like him so much—Sanji's an awesome cook!"
Lynn sighed. "He has a problem with his brain. And how come you're the same?"
The restaurant had gone quiet, so everyone heard Lynn and Luffy clearly.
Sanji looked at Lynn sharply. "Who did you say has a problem with their brain?"
Lynn stood up, expressionless. "I said you do."
Sanji retorted, "What's wrong with giving food to someone starving? Do you know what it's like to starve?"
Lynn sneered, "So you'll feed him… then let him fill up before he robs others?"
Sanji thought for a moment. "I'm just a cook. Feeding the hungry is my duty. The rest isn't my problem."
Luffy grinned, eyes sparkling. "So cool, Sanji! I gotta have you on my crew, hahahaha!"
Lynn frowned, annoyed but realizing something. These people don't seem to have much schooling or legal sense.
In the real world, Sanji's behavior would have legal consequences, and people would have the right to stop him. But here? Lynn didn't know what to say.
Finally, he said unhappily, "Whatever. If Don Kreig kills someone, don't expect me to take responsibility."
The restaurant fell silent. Everyone grew thoughtful.
After a while, Zeff and Sanji went off to cook for Don Kreig.
Lynn, sitting at the table, frowned deeply. He didn't want to argue—he wanted to charge these two idiots with "endangering public safety." And the circumstances were serious.
He just didn't get their mindset. Was it belief? Selfishness? Or did they think it was cool?
But beliefs aren't always right.
Besides, Lynn doubted he'd ever studied the law here. The pirate world was indeed lawless. If someone like Don Kreig gained influence, it would be too late to call the cops.
Lynn's displeasure was obvious. Nami smiled and said, "Aren't you powerful? Even if Don Kreig moves, we still have you guys, right?"
Luffy nodded. "Yeah, don't worry, Lynn, you got this!"
"Go away," Lynn muttered unhappily. "I'm annoyed. Ignore me."
Luffy teased, "You only say that because he won't cook for you…"
"Stinky Straw Hat, I'm gonna strangle you!!"
Soon, Lynn and Luffy were wrestling on the floor.
Nami covered her mouth, chuckling. "What a pair of idiots."
Zoro frowned. "These two really are hopeless."
Suddenly, a loud crash came from nearby. Don Kreig had just finished his meal—and punched Sanji, sending him flying!
Lynn exhaled in surprise. "Good fight! If you won't listen, then die in front of me."
Zoro asked, "So what we feared has happened. Should we intervene?"
Luffy adjusted his hat. "Let's see how things go first."
Lynn added, "Don't expect me to help. Except for Nami, of course."
He put an arm around Nami's waist. "I'll protect you. Even if the world ends, don't worry—we'll find a cave to hide in."
Nami turned her head, giving him a blank look. When had she ever liked being hugged like this?
Lynn's attention shifted as Don Kreig asked Zeff to prepare food for a hundred people. Zeff complied, bringing out an enormous feast.
Lynn muttered to Nami, "Don't be so naive next time."
Then, secretly, he kissed her ear, making her blush.
Anyone not foolish knew a big fight was coming. As for Lynn? He was certain he wouldn't help. Those who want to die should just get on with it.
