Chapter 445: Distributing Devil Fruits (Part 5)
Tina's gaze swept across the Devil Fruits on the table.
But her eyes lingered only on the Paramecia types, completely ignoring the Zoan fruits beside them.
All the best fruits had already been taken by her older brothers and sisters. None of the remaining ones truly appealed to her.
This made her hesitate.
Should she pick a Devil Fruit or give up altogether?
She glanced at her father's expectant look.
Then pointed at one of the fruits.
"Daddy! I'll take that one!"
Charlotte followed the direction of her finger.
The Paramecia-type Barrier-Barrier Fruit.
A very powerful defensive fruit.
As long as the user had enough stamina, it could block almost any attack.
Charlotte picked up the fruit and placed it in front of Tina.
"You've chosen—then go ahead and eat it."
He said kindly.
"Mhm!"
Tina nodded. She had finally decided to eat the Paramecia-type Barrier-Barrier Fruit.
She had heard about this one—it was famous for its nearly invincible defense. It was almost impossible for enemies to break through from the outside.
With this fruit, it would be much harder for others to hurt her in the future.
Suppressing her urge to gag, Tina quickly shoved the fruit into her mouth and swallowed without chewing.
Even so, the disgusting taste of the Devil Fruit still made her want to throw up.
After she finished—
Tina immediately felt a strange power coursing through her body.
She raised her right hand in a strange gesture.
A pale green barrier extended from her hand, forming a protective shield in front of her.
Charlotte looked at the familiar barrier and tapped on it with his fingers.
Thump, thump, thump!
A few light knocks sounded with a dull thud.
"Don't rely too much on this fruit. You still need to train your body, understand?"
Charlotte reminded her, worried his youngest daughter might come to rely solely on the fruit.
"Yes, Daddy! I'll train properly too."
Tina nodded obediently.
Charlotte gave a small nod, sipped his tea, and looked toward the final two.
Tina, understanding the situation, quietly stepped down.
"Powell, come up."
Charlotte waved to the next child.
Powell obediently walked forward.
"Pick a power you like."
Charlotte said.
Powell looked at the five remaining Paramecia and four Zoan Ancient types.
After scanning them briefly, he pointed to one of the Zoan fruits.
"Dad! I want the Zoan-Type Ancient Beast: Dragon-Dragon Fruit, Triceratops Form!"
His finger landed on one of the least popular Devil Fruits.
Charlotte was taken aback.
He looked at Powell.
This was rare.
Among his more than twenty children, other than Caesar, Logan, and Leonard, few had shown interest in Zoan-type Devil Fruits.
This was unexpected.
Charlotte nodded and handed the Triceratops Fruit to Powell.
"If you've made your choice, don't regret it. Stick with it. Zoan types can be very strong too."
He encouraged.
"Mhm!"
Powell nodded firmly and immediately took a big bite of the Ancient Zoan: Triceratops Form fruit.
After swallowing it all—
Powell suddenly felt a surge of power explode within him.
His body began to expand, his clothes puffing up with him.
Three horns slowly grew from his forehead.
"ROAR!!"
A deep, excited growl erupted from Powell's mouth.
A massive triceratops stood before Charlotte, eyes glowing faint red.
"Powell?"
Charlotte called out cautiously.
The reddish glow faded instantly.
Powell lifted his enormous head and looked at his father.
"Dad…"
The low, muffled voice responded.
Charlotte let out a sigh of relief.
The primal instincts within Zoan fruits gave him a moment of worry.
The aura Powell had just released definitely wasn't something a five-year-old child should be capable of.
It was vast and wild—beastly even.
Fleeting as it was, Charlotte had sensed it.
He took out a pair of seastone handcuffs and placed them on Powell.
"Wear these. Focus on training your body. Don't use your Devil Fruit until after you turn eight."
As soon as the seastone made contact, Powell reverted back to human form.
This was Charlotte's insurance for him.
Powell looked at the cuffs on his wrist and nodded.
"Whew… go on, then."
Charlotte patted his shoulder.
Powell walked back to the group.
Only one child remained.
Charlotte looked at Fortes and smiled.
"Come here. You've waited long enough, haven't you?"
He gently ruffled Fortes' hair as the boy walked up.
Fortes sniffled as he looked up at his father.
The windows around the room were still open.
Although winter had passed, March winds were still bone-chilling.
"Pick one."
Charlotte pointed at the Devil Fruits on the table.
Fortes looked them over and pointed to one of the Paramecia types.
"Dad! I want that Paramecia-type Repel-Repel Fruit!"
He pointed eagerly.
Charlotte nodded and handed it to him.
Without hesitation, Fortes took a big bite.
Despite his pained expression, he swallowed the whole thing.
"Try it out—see what happens."
Charlotte smiled encouragingly.
Under his father's gaze, Fortes raised his palm.
He gently swiped it through the air.
Whoosh!
A gust of wind erupted forward.
It surged toward Charlotte.
The wind lifted a few strands of his hair.
But Charlotte didn't care about his hairstyle—his eyes sparkled with excitement as he stared at Fortes.
That light push of the hand had the force of a sudden wind.
It revealed the potential of the Repel-Repel Fruit.
Repel anything?
Even the air?
This fruit might have incredible versatility.
Charlotte patted Fortes on the head.
"This fruit is very powerful. Develop it well. You'll get amazing results."
"Mhm!"
Fortes nodded firmly.
Charlotte smiled.
An entire afternoon passed, and twelve children had now received their Devil Fruits.
Except for Hilde and Sweiwa, everyone else had eaten theirs.
That made them the only two out of Charlotte's 33 children without Devil Fruits.
Yes—33 children.
This past year, Charlotte had "accidentally" gotten four of the maids pregnant.
The new children hadn't been born yet, but they were all growing in the maids' bellies.
If nothing went wrong, they'd be born in a few months.
"Make sure to train and develop your Devil Fruit abilities. But remember, while Devil Fruits are important—your physical strength is even more so. Strength determines everything, understand?"
Charlotte looked at his children and reminded them firmly.
"Yes!"
All the children responded in unison.
