Chapter 209: Roger Pirates Set Out to Sea
"The New World is about to be in turmoil again!"
Roger stood at the bow, reading the newspaper in his hand, while Rayleigh stood beside him, drinking from his flask.
"From what we can see now, Shiki the Golden Lion will probably be the first to cause trouble. That man is extremely ambitious," Rayleigh said, glancing at the newspaper.
"Yeah! The one I'm most worried about is Shiki. He's different from Whitebeard and Charlotte! This guy has a strong desire for power, and his ambition is enormous. Judging from his actions in recent years, what he has done in the New World is a replica of the World Government—but much more ruthless! To pay the protection fees to the Sky Pirates, those kingdoms are heavily oppressing their people."
Roger took out another newspaper with the latest news about Golden Lion Shiki.
"Pirate Admiral Shiki the Golden Lion Attacks a World Government Member State!"
The impact of this headline was massive.
"Attacking a World Government member state… Even during the Rocks era, Rocks had to be careful! This Golden Lion is insane!" Rayleigh sighed as he read the article.
"It's different now! The prestige of the World Government is fading. It seems almost normal for their member states to be invaded. Remember that kid Kaido? He destroyed a member state back then. Zephyr caught him, but it seems like he escaped again," Roger said, looking at another article.
A trace of concern appeared between his brows.
"Indeed! Over the years, the World Government's prestige has become useless in the New World. Now, when people think of the New World, their first impression is that it's a paradise for pirates," Rayleigh sighed.
It wasn't like this when they first went out to sea!
This was evident from the fact that Roger had been chased by Garp for decades.
But it had been almost two years since Garp last pursued them.
Of course, part of it was because Roger had been lying low for the past two years, but the reality was that the navy no longer had the resources to go after him.
With an endless stream of pirates and constant clashes in the New World, the navy was stretched thin.
This was also why the navy had started actively training new high-level combat forces.
Compared to the endless masters emerging among the pirates, the navy had almost no promising new talents.
It was thanks to Sengoku, Garp, and their generation that they were holding on. But this wouldn't last forever.
It was now imperative for the navy to train its next generation.
Roger remained silent after hearing Rayleigh's words.
Rayleigh noticed Roger's quiet demeanor and looked at him in confusion.
"Roger, what's wrong with you?"
Roger, deep in thought, looked up at Rayleigh.
"I don't know why, but in the past few years, I keep hearing a voice in my ear telling me to look for something! And recently, this voice has become clearer and more urgent," Roger said with a frown.
"Hmm? This is new," Rayleigh frowned. He had never heard Roger mention this before.
"Yeah! The voice is getting clearer, and it even feels like it's nearby!" Roger explained, suddenly looking up in a specific direction.
"Captain Roger! Captain Roger! There's an island ahead!"
Jabba's voice suddenly rang out from the helm as he pointed toward the horizon.
Roger had already spotted the island before Jabba even mentioned it.
Rayleigh noticed Roger's sudden change in expression and asked, "What's going on with you?"
Could he be distracted after parting ways with his lover?
"Rayleigh! I heard it! I heard it! The island is calling me! I have to go and take a look!" Roger suddenly grabbed Rayleigh's shoulders and spoke urgently, staring at the island.
"Alright, alright! We'll go. No need to shake me!"
Rayleigh, confused by Roger's sudden excitement, calmed himself down.
"Jabba! Turn the ship toward the island!" Roger shouted without hesitation.
"Aye, Captain!"
Jabba quickly adjusted the ship's course and headed for the island.
"Is there treasure there, Captain?"
A red-nosed boy suddenly appeared at Roger and Rayleigh's feet, looking up at Roger's excited expression.
"Hahahaha! There must be! I can feel it—this treasure is very important to me!"
Roger grinned, picking up the five-year-old Buggy.
"Oh! Oh! I love treasure hunting the most! Captain, I want to go too!"
Buggy's eyes sparkled with excitement as he looked toward the island, eager to go ashore immediately.
"Buggy! What nonsense are you talking about again?"
A voice interrupted, and a red-haired boy with a wooden sword at his waist stood beside Roger's legs, arms crossed, looking at Buggy with annoyance.
"Damn it, Shanks! This is treasure! Maybe it's some legendary pirate's secret stash. If we find it, we'll be rich! I'll fill my room with snacks!"
Buggy jumped out of Roger's arms, yelling at Shanks.
"Tsk! Your room is my room!"
Shanks smirked, arms still crossed.
The two immediately started bickering.
Bang! Bang!
"Shut up! You two are so noisy! Can you stop arguing for one day?"
Rayleigh roared, dropping his fists on both of their heads.
These two kids seemed destined to be rivals, arguing and even fighting daily.
But despite their fights, they always made up afterward, which was hard to understand.
"Hmph!"
"Tch!"
The two glared at each other with disdain.
"Hahahahaha! Guys, get ready to dock!"
Roger's loud laughter echoed.
The ship was now close to the island.
"Treasure! Here I come!"
Buggy rushed to disembark.
"What if there's no treasure?"
Shanks suddenly asked, ruining the moment.
"There IS treasure!"
Buggy glared at Shanks.
"There's NOT treasure!"
"It IS treasure!"
"It's NOT treasure!"
The two began arguing again.
But this time, Roger and Rayleigh ignored them.
Roger, Rayleigh, and the other crewmates had already gone ashore.
"You two little brats! You'll know whether there's treasure once we take a look," Jabba said, passing by them.
Buggy and Shanks froze.
"Let's go! Let's go treasure hunting!"
Roger suddenly spoke excitedly, adjusting his straw hat.
"Roger! You don't even know what's on this island yet! Idiot!"
Rayleigh tried to warn him, but Roger had already run ahead, disappearing from view.
Rayleigh sighed and hurried after him.
The rest of the interested crewmates followed.
