With that, they sailed away from Impel Down, leaving the chaos behind them. The ship smoothly rode the waves, the prison fading into the distance. They pulled off the escape without a hitch, and Coby felt satisfied with how things had played out.
Suddenly, Crocodile's voice cut through the wind. "We've got a ship, but the Gates of Justice are still closed. We're stuck unless those open."
Coby shot him a cocky grin. "Croco-boy, go play in the sand pit. I got that covered."
True to his words, the gates were open. Coby had already slipped in while the others were busy dealing with the chaos. With Mr. 2's powers combined with Absalom's invisibility, he moved through the control room unnoticed. The guards never saw him coming. A few key switches flipped, and the massive Gates of Justice began to creak open, letting the ship slip into the Tarai Current.
Crocodile, watching the smooth operation from the deck, clenched his jaw. The urge to attack Coby was still there, but he held back. He'd already been beaten once by this kid. No need to embarrass himself again. Instead, he kept his distance, his eyes narrowed as the ship picked up speed in the current.
Luffy was on the deck, still pumped up. "Alright! Let's go save Ace!" he shouted, fists raised in the air as the ship surged forward.
Jinbe stood at the helm, his grip firm on the wheel. "The current will take us to Marineford in no time. But once we get there... it's going to be chaos."
Luffy cracked his knuckles, a wide grin on his face. "Good! I like chaos."
Bon Kurei, bouncing around with excitement, added, "Iva-chan! This is going to be the most fabulous battle yet, don't you think?"
Ivankov smirked, striking a pose. "Oh, darling, it's going to be a show like no other. I hope you're all ready for the main event, hee-haw!"
Jinbe glanced at the crew and then back toward the horizon. "We need to be prepared. Marineford will be crawling with Marines and Warlords. This is no ordinary battle. Whitebeard himself is coming."
Luffy's grin only grew wider. "I don't care who's there. We're saving Ace."
After ship was set on course, Jinbe pulled Luffy and Coby aside to talk about what happened to Arlong in East Blue. Of course he learned it was Coby who had executed Arlong, and he had to admit, to this day, he was holding a little resentment, but seeing two today, he let go of it.
Jinbe nodded slowly, though his eyes were heavy with the weight of the past. "I understand. I know you were protecting those people, and I can't hold it against you. But it's not easy to hear. Arlong was once a good man—one of us."
Luffy, still listening, clenched his fists. He remembered what Nami had gone through because of Arlong. "Arlong deserved what he got," Luffy said, his voice hard. "He hurt Nami."
Jinbe glanced at Luffy, giving him a slow nod. "You're right, Luffy-san. Arlong lost his way. The hatred he had for humans consumed him, and he became a monster. I won't lie, Coby. It hurts to hear that. But... you did what was necessary."
Coby just nodded. There wasn't much else to say. Arlong's death was in the past, and they all knew there was no changing that.
Once they reached the Gates of Justice of Marineford, miraculously, it opened up as well. It was thanks to Lafitte, one of Blackbeard's crew, but the important part was that it opened. Luffy and the others made their way through, but the sea around them started acting strange. First, the waves pulled back, as if retreating from something, and then they surged forward, forming a massive wall of water—a tsunami. The waves towered over them, blocking out the horizon.
"That's Whitebeard's power," Jinbei said grimly, his voice carrying across the deck. Before they could react, a wave of ice began to spread over the sea, freezing the tsunami in place and locking the bottom of their ship in ice.
"Aokiji too," Jinbei added, looking at the frozen ice mountain below.
The ship was stuck, trapped by the ice that crept across the sea. Luffy, Jinbei, and the others quickly gathered to figure out what to do next.
"We gotta break the ice," Luffy said, pounding his fists together. "Otherwise, we'll be stuck here!"
Before they could act, Coby grinned. "I've got a faster way." He inhaled deeply, summoning his breath power. "Breath Nuke!"
A massive gust of wind mixed with explosive heat shot from Coby's mouth, shattering the ice below them with a loud crack. The ship lurched forward, falling from the edge of the frozen sea and plunging straight into the battlefield below, just like in the original series.
The ship plummeted into the hole Jozu had carved earlier, crashing into the sea with a thunderous boom. Ice and debris scattered everywhere as Coby grabbed Luffy by collar, and used Geppo to float in the air, as he looked at at the battlefield.
They had arrived in the heart of the Summit War—the greatest war of the last two decades.
Looking at the end of the battlefield, ignoring thousands of Marines, 4 Shichibukai, 3 Admirals, one fleet admiral, and his own grandpa, Luffy's eyes locked onto Ace. The older brother was shackled on the scaffold, his expression one of disbelief. "Ace! I found you!" Luffy shouted, his voice carrying across the battlefield like a thunderclap. The falling ship, followed by two floating figures—Luffy and Coby—immediately drew everyone's attention.
Ace's eyes widened in shock, his voice trembling with emotion as he called back, "Luffy!"
Beside him, Garp sat silently, staring at his grandson, while Sengoku, standing next to Ace, clenched his fists. "Straw Hat Luffy... He was supposed to be in Impel Down. How the hell did he get here?" Sengoku muttered, his brow furrowing.
But as he saw Jinbe and Crocodile among the newcomers, realization dawned on him. "No, those are Jinbe and Crocodile... Did they break out? Coby the Copy Ninja... Is this his doing?" Sengoku's voice was low, but the tension was palpable.
Suddenly, Garp's eyes flicked toward Sengoku, his expression shifting from shock to fury. In an instant, the old Marine leaped to his feet, grabbing Sengoku by the collar with a single swift motion. "What the hell do you mean he was supposed to be in Impel Down?!" Garp's voice roared, vibrating with barely contained rage.
Sengoku, startled by the sudden outburst, wrenched himself free, glaring at Garp. "Calm down, Garp. After the Sabaody incident, your grandson was sent to Impel Down by Kuma's power. He was injured, so we kept him there."
Garp's grip on Sengoku tightened momentarily, his teeth gnashing together. "And you didn't think to tell me this? I visited Ace last week!"
Sengoku shot back, equally frustrated, brushing Garp's hand off him. "He's a criminal, Garp! He deserved to be in Impel Down!" The argument boiled over, right in front of the gathered Marines and pirates, adding another layer of tension to the already chaotic battlefield.
Meanwhile, below the scaffold, reactions rippled across the battlefield. Hancock, spotting Coby, felt her heart skip. She blushed slightly, her thoughts running wild. 'He made it safely. Thank the heavens.'
The Marines were equally stunned by the sudden appearance of heavy hitters. Kizaru and Aokiji, both having encountered Luffy before, raised their eyebrows in mild surprise. Mihawk's eyes sharpened as he gazed toward Luffy, while Doflamingo, ever the chaos-loving instigator, chuckled to himself, amused by the scene. The rest of the Marines stood in shocked silence, recognizing the threat these pirates posed. Sengoku's voice shattered the tension.
"Is this your answer, Jinbe?" he roared.
Jinbe stood firm, his gaze unwavering as he shouted back, "Indeed! I resign as a Shichibukai!"
At that moment, both Coby and Luffy sprang into action. Luffy disappeared in a flash, reappearing near Whitebeard with water dripping from his fists and legs, steam rising from his skin. His sudden appearance halted Crocodile's hook, aimed at Whitebeard's back. Coby simultaneously fired off an Uchimizu, a concentrated burst of water, forcing Crocodile to dodge.
Crocodile's teeth ground together, his gaze snapping between Coby and Luffy. The frustration in his voice was clear. "You two..." 'They know how to fight me!' He glared at Luffy. "We had a deal. So why are you protecting Whitebeard?"
Luffy snorted, not missing a beat. "This old guy is Whitebeard, right? He's Ace's pops. Since Ace cares about him, I'm not letting you touch him."
Whitebeard, calm and collected, didn't even flinch. He simply watched Luffy with interest, memories flashing behind his eyes as he studied the young pirate. "Are you here to save your brother?"
Luffy's stance didn't falter. "That's right."
Whitebeard's expression turned serious. "I hope you understand who your enemies are. You're throwing your life away, brat."
Luffy's face twisted in anger. "Shut up, old man! That's not for you to decide! I heard all about you. You wanna be the Pirate King, huh? Well, guess what? The one who's gonna be the Pirate King is me!"
Whitebeard's mouth curled into a grin, then he let out a booming laugh. "Gurarara! What a loudmouth." His grin widened. "Well, you better not be in my way, brat."
Luffy crouched slightly, his voice defiant. "I'll do this however the hell I want. I'm saving Ace."
