Chapter 63: 63: The Adorable Sticks
"Look up!" someone suddenly shouted, her voice filled with shock. She pointed to the clouds above, and everyone followed her gaze. In the next second, they were all stunned.
"The clouds…they've turned pink!" Aimee murmured, noticing how the once white clouds had somehow changed to a lovely, rosy pink—a color so soft and adorable, it almost seemed alive.
"That has to be Luffy-sama's doing," a young girl with a high-pitched voice chimed in. "Only he could make something like this happen!"
The others nodded in agreement. "Yes! There's truly nothing in this world that Luffy-sama can't accomplish." The crowd marveled, their hearts swelling with happiness. After all, this remarkable man was theirs. The stronger he was, the more everyone benefited.
The clouds continued shifting. Not only had they taken on a rosy hue, but their shape was changing too.
"Wait…doesn't that look familiar?" someone commented, squinting. "It almost resembles…something…"
"Looks like…a face," another guessed. "A really pretty face."
As the pink cloud continued to morph, people started to realize that it was slowly forming a face—a face they recognized all too well.
"It's… it's Her Majesty's face!" someone gasped.
Everyone looked closely and confirmed it: the cloud had taken on the form of their Empress's face. But there was something odd about her expression; it looked slightly contorted, almost as if she was…in pain?
"What's going on? Is Her Majesty in pain?" someone muttered in confusion. It didn't seem right. After all, the clouds had clearly been crafted by Luffy-sama, and in his eyes, the Empress was the most beautiful woman alive. It didn't make sense for him to depict her with a pained expression.
"No, wait!" someone corrected. "Look closer. That's not pain—it's an expression of joy."
Her comment made everyone reevaluate, and they began to see it. The face, while showing a hint of strain, radiated a deeper happiness.
"Yes!" agreed a swordswoman. "It's subtle, but that's not pure pain. It's more…a mix. Three parts pain, seven parts happiness."
The others nodded, finding her analysis spot-on. And as they pondered, they couldn't help but recall their own moments with Luffy-sama.
"It's true…" one woman murmured. "We've felt that too—pain intertwined with pleasure. That's something Luffy-sama taught us, a truth he helped us experience firsthand."
The crowd, deep in thought, shared a quiet understanding. At that moment, the pink cloud finished its transformation, solidifying into an image of Her Majesty's face, embodying a blend of pain and bliss—an expression they all recognized and understood intimately.
"Huh?" said an archer, narrowing her eyes. "The cloud is still changing…"
Everyone looked closer. Beside the image of the Empress's face, another face began to take form, slowly emerging and shifting in the cloud.
A few seconds later, it became clear.
"It's Luffy-sama's face!" someone exclaimed. "That's his signature smile!"
Everyone nodded, recognizing it instantly. Luffy's smile was unique—always broad, straightforward, and completely unguarded. He never held anything back, his joy always right there for the world to see. It was a fearless, boundless kind of joy—a quality everyone admired and yearned for.
Seeing his smile, people grew excited, some calling out eagerly, "Luffy-sama! We've missed you! It's only been a few minutes, but seeing that smile again just makes us want to be with you all the more. Time flies by, and we can't help but yearn to be near you."
The crowd's shouts filled the air. However, high up in the clouds, Luffy and Hancock were blissfully unaware of the commotion below, too absorbed in each other and the beauty of the moment.
For a brief, fleeting instant, it seemed as if the people below could hear joyous laughter coming from above, along with the faint echoes of Hancock's declarations of love.
After an unknown length of time, when everything finally quieted down, the people on the ground were visibly exhausted. They had waited patiently, some even falling asleep while time slipped by.
Throughout this period, Luffy had been offering guidance to everyone, knowing that he would soon have to leave. His approach was always kind and considerate, readily agreeing to their requests, understanding the preciousness of these final moments together.
Now, with the time of his departure drawing near, everyone trained and honed their skills as much as possible, preparing to endure the solitude that lay ahead, with only memories to help them withstand the coming days of separation.
As dawn broke, Luffy woke early, sipping tea as he gathered everyone together. When they had all assembled, he looked at them and spoke.
"Have you noticed something?" he asked with a gentle smile. "Right in front of you… there's something waiting."
The crowd nodded, anticipation sparking in their eyes.
Right in front of them were smooth sticks. They were several centimeters thick and many tens of centimeters long, with a solid, sturdy appearance that looked unexpectedly pleasing.
"Huh?" the archer said, tilting her head. "Why does it feel familiar? Like I've seen this somewhere before…"
"What…is this thing?" she asked, turning to Luffy. "Luffy-sama, is this your farewell gift to us?"
Luffy nodded. "Yes! This is my parting gift for all of you. I'll be leaving soon, setting off on my journey. You all love me, of course…and I love you even more. So…" he paused, smiling gently, "I wanted to do something. I couldn't just leave, not like that."
He gestured for everyone to pick up the staff, saying, "This isn't just an ordinary staff. Or rather…it's much more than it appears."
The crowd listened intently as Luffy continued, "You're welcome to touch it. Feel free to take it and, if you can, try to sense what's inside."
Following his instructions, they began to hold and inspect it closely. Suddenly, one of them gasped, "What?! This feel… it's just like…"
Another chimed in, "Yes! It's exactly like Luffy-sama! When I focus, it's as if his presence is right here, with me. Even with my eyes closed, for just a few seconds…it felt like I was nestled in Luffy-sama's arms."
"What is this?" they murmured in awe, some of them even tucking it close against their bodies.
"Alright," Luffy said with a small wave. "The stick does have a part of me in it. Or rather, you can consider it as a stand-in for me. Each of these staffs is something I made by hand, and I infused them with my own spirit."
Simple words, but they struck everyone deeply.
"What?" Hancock, the Empress, held her staff, looking at Luffy in amazement. "Luffy…you can really do something like this?" She turned it over in her hands. "Not just the feel of it…but even the presence. It's just like having you beside me."
The others nodded, sharing her sentiment, their faces reflecting the same profound emotion.
Luffy grinned and said, "Everyone! I'll be leaving here soon, and once I'm gone, I know you'll feel lonely. I can't ignore that sadness in your hearts, so I thought of this… I made these for you."
He sipped his tea, continuing, "When I'm not here, these will stand in for me. They'll remind you of what I'd give you myself if I could be here."
The crowd looked at him, awe-struck. Some even trembled slightly, feeling overwhelmed by the strange beauty of it all. Sensing their uncertainty, Luffy said warmly, "There's nothing to fear. These are completely harmless. They're infused with my love for all of you."
Just then, hundreds of the sticks began to tremble, fluttering slightly on the table, making everyone stare in surprise.
"What's happening? The staffs are moving…that's kind of spooky…but…adorable, too!"
Luffy chuckled. "That's just one of their features. Like I said, they carry a part of me and can act in my place. Think of them as simple tools…tools of companionship."
Their hearts felt a little lighter, the weight of parting sorrow lifting as Luffy's thoughtfulness reached them. Aimee's cheeks flushed as she hugged her staff close and said, "Luffy-sama! As expected of you…there's truly nothing you can't do. I won't be lonely anymore… If you left, I know many of us would feel empty, even hopeless."
Her words seemed to resonate with everyone. The swordswoman nodded, her face softening. "Luffy-sama…I won't cry anymore. Every night…I've been crying, afraid that when you leave, the light in my life will go out. But…this stick…" She raised it high. "Luffy-sama! This staff is your soul…your essence. It will watch over us. You can leave without worry!"
Following her example, the others lifted their staffs too, their voices echoing together.
"Luffy-sama! You can leave without worry! Your spirit will be with us, and we'll live happily with it by our side!"
Seeing the crowd finally coming to terms with their separation, Luffy nodded approvingly. "But before you put your staffs away," he added, "take a look at the numbers written on each of them."
They quickly examined the markings, curiosity lighting up their faces.
"Hmm? Mine says 101," Aimee remarked.
"Mine is 203!"
"Mine's 304!" others called out.
Some had smaller numbers, while others had notably higher ones. The swordswoman's was 806, the archer's was 960, and others displayed even larger values—1024, 1333, 1667, 2333, even 3004, and 3606.
They couldn't make sense of these numbers, but some began to form theories, noticing a trend. It seemed that those with higher numbers tended to be those who were particularly beautiful.
Luffy chuckled knowingly. "The numbers represent the times we've shared love together. Each one is unique to you and captures a personal memory. It's a reminder of our love."
A simple explanation, but the meaning went straight to their hearts.
