Chapter 30: Chapter:30
Hiriito weakly held out a bottle of antidote pills from Sasori's ninja tool pouch.
"Here…"
SNATCH!
Sayama, the muscular puppet corps instructor, grabbed it away instantly.
"This won't happen again!" he bellowed.
"As punishment, you two will clean the entire base—TODAY!"
Hiriito and Sasori exchanged glances.
"…Think we can use Water Release to escape?" Hiriito whispered.
Sasori shrugged. "A little."
"Good enough."
At least cleaning would be easier with water jutsu.
Sasori smirked. "We'll spar again next time, right?"
"Wait…!" Hiriito stared at him.
"You want me to be your free sparring partner? That's a scam!"
Sasori turned away slightly.
"Grandmother left a lot of books at home for me. If you're interested, you can read one every time you beat me—until I win."
Hiriito's eyes lit up.
Chiyo's private book collection?
Chiyo was a legendary puppeteer, a veteran Kage-level ninja, and one of the strongest in Sunagakure.
There wasn't a single puppeteer who wouldn't want access to her knowledge.
Hiriito immediately grabbed a broom.
"Ahem… Brother Sasori," he said in a respectful tone, "let's finish cleaning quickly!"
With Sasori's basic Water Release techniques, cleaning the base was much faster than expected.
Although the desert climate weakened Water Release by 30%, it was more than enough for chores.
Still, by the time they finished, the sun was already beginning to set.
Hiriito followed Sasori home, expecting a small, simple ninja household.
Instead—he saw a mansion.
The massive courtyard was made entirely of polished sandstone bricks, with an elegant yellow-white color.
At the center, there was a small pond with fresh, bubbling spring water—a rare luxury in the desert village.
Poplar trees provided shade, and underneath them sat two telescopic fishing rods, fully automated with puppet mechanisms.
Hiriito's jaw nearly dropped.
This isn't just a house…
It's a freaking palace.
In the Land of Wind, water was more valuable than gold. Owning a spring-fed pond meant unimaginable wealth.
Sasori ignored his reaction and walked toward a side door.
"The study is over here."
Sasori led Hiriito into a study lined with bookshelves.
Three walls were covered in books.
The left shelf contained sealed books, protected by Chiyo's personal fūinjutsu.
The right shelf held scrolls of ninjutsu, puppetry, and medical techniques.
The center shelf contained a mix of disciplines.
"Don't touch the left and right shelves," Sasori said.
"They're sealed by Grandmother. The books on the right are the ones I'm allowed to read."
Hiriito curiously examined the collection.
Titles included:
"Advanced Black Secret Techniques – Part 1"
"Puppet Mechanisms: Advanced Design & Application"
"Poison-Making & Antidote Pharmacology"
"Basics of Medical Ninjutsu"
"Fundamentals of Sand Seals"
"Chakra Line Manipulation – Monzaemon's Notes"
Nearly every book was priceless knowledge for a puppeteer.
Hiriito's fingers twitched in excitement.
"You can't take any books home," Sasori warned, sitting at his desk.
"But you can read them here. If you need more time, you can come back tomorrow."
Then, he picked up a scroll on human puppet-making and started reading quietly.
Meanwhile, Hiriito struggled with a critical life decision.
Which Book to Choose?
So many choices…
Medical Ninjutsu was essential for puppet users but wouldn't immediately improve his combat ability.
Poison-making required pharmacology knowledge, which he lacked.
Sealing techniques were powerful, but they needed years of study.
Hiriito took a deep breath.
I need something that gives me instant improvement in battle.
His eyes settled on a specific book.
"Chakra Line Manipulation – Monzaemon's Notes."
Monzaemon.
The legendary puppeteer who founded modern puppetry.
He was the Newton of puppetry—the Einstein of ninja engineering.
Chiyo was a Kage-level master, but Monzaemon was the original genius who systemized everything.
Even his Chikamatsu puppets were still unmatched to this day.
Hiriito grabbed the book and started reading.
Meanwhile, his incarnation in the DC world began memorizing it simultaneously.
Hiriito absorbed 90% of the content, but some parts were too advanced.
Still, the knowledge was invaluable.
As night fell, Hiriito was still absorbed in the book.
The wooden door creaked open.
A tall, thin man in his forties entered.
He had long eyebrows and wore a white headscarf.
Sasori glanced up from his book.
"Second Grandfather."
Hiriito quickly stood up.
"Lord Ebizo."
Ebizo—Sunagakure's strategist and Chiyo's younger brother—smiled.
He turned to Sasori.
"It's rare to not find you in your workshop," he said.
Then, his gaze shifted to Hiriito.
"Why don't you introduce your friend?"
